This hotel is excellently placed for visits to the Alhambra Palace which is just a four minute walk up the hill. The hotel is very large and spacious and elegant in a comfortable Victorian style. Our room overlooked the city and was comfortably furnished with a small... more

It was the best holiday of my life. We stayed in a villa for a week and everyday we went to a different place. On the first day we just went to the local town to meet the local people and we went to a fish bar. Next day we went to the beach and went in the sea. On Wednesday... more

Highly recommended
This is a fantastic hotel. The rooms are small but beautifully decorated. Try to get a room overlooking the city. The staff are extremely helpful. I was worried about having to walk up the hill from the city to the hotel but it only takes 20 minutes that even after walking all day! and it is safe, very safe. The only problem we experienced was that we could hear the lift going up and down all night long especially when stopped; it made a terrible noise but probably it is just my sensitive hearing because they have never had any complaints. There are some good restaurants a few minutes from the hotel. The view of Granada and the mountains is excellent.
A wonderful place
A great hotel. It is just five minutes walk from the Alhambra and ten minutes waolk from the centre of Granada. Our room was lovely with a wonderful view over Granada, the food was really excellent and the service was just first class - even to the point that when we we were having dinner for my wife's birthday, the staff overheard it was her birthday and pitched up with two glasses of champagne and a slice of cake with a candle, on the house. I would go back there in an instant.
Don't miss it!
We were also a bit apprehensive after reading some of these reports. We can only say that we would go back tomorrow! We had a junior suite which, admittedly, was pricey, but worth every penny (sorry, Euro). We had an incredible view (but no balcony), beautiful furniture and décor, and did not experience any of the complaints made by others about dirty bedspreads or malfunctioning equipment etc. Everything was in perfect working order, super clean and attractive. Admittedly no alarm clock (see other reviews) but's what's wrong with asking for a (free!) wake-up call!?! I loved the sitting area with the huge "Moorish-style" coffee table (complete with a selection of books describing the area), and the headboard of our bed was a work of art all of its own! The staff were great - friendly but not "pushy" - and even helped us to find a place in town to ship a mirror back to Germany. We found the communal areas super and very well looked after. The general décor might seem "over-the-top" to others, but we found the whole thing very much in keeping with the setting. We didn't eat at the hotel, but enjoyed drinks on the balcony of the bar overlooking the city and found the price OK. The breakfast buffet (included in the price, but so it should be!) was as you can expect at a good hotel, with delicious fresh mangoes and sparkling wine. We are amazed at some of the other reviews on this place and can only assume that the hotel has woken up to criticism and has now got its show on the road!
Breathtaking architecture
Visited the The Alhambra Palace at the end of July. Breathtaking views and the architecture is stunning. Easy to see why so many artists, architects, etc have been inspired by this place over the centuries. If planning a visit, would definately recommend getting there early morning before the tour bus brigades and heat descend. You can book tickets in advance on the website or pre purchase at branches at BBBV Bank branches all over Spain.
Great hotel
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel although the lobby staff were a bit snotty. This is something we encountered throughout the region. The setting of the Palace is magnificent.Get a city view over towards the mountains. Book your Alhambra tickets well in advance (internet is good) and get there early to beat the coach tours. That way you can explore without feeling rushed. The whole site is huge so take water and be prepared to walk a lot. Don't miss the Generalife- the formal gardens which are stunning. The rooms at the hotel are airy and light and the communal areas are spectacular. Have a few beers on the terrace but avoid the bar snack menu as it is very overpriced. We didn't eat in the hotel but there is a great square a few minutes walk down a steep hill in front of the hotel with plenty of lively and good value restaurants and bars. An equally steep walk the otherway takes you into the city centre and the cathedral etc. I would adive getting one of the numerous little buses or a cab back though
Major Disappointment
Our stay at the Alhambra Palace was supposed to be our special splurge on our 3 week trip of Spain. It turned out to be the greatest disappointment. It was very expensive. The staff treated us as if they were doing us a favor by letting us stay there. No one was friendly (the maid, actually, was very nice). The food was ok. The selection was not extensive. Our room was on the lower floor next to the convention center - and thus (the night there was a party) there was a lot of noise. The men's restroom backed up to our room - and this noise went on until 2:30a.m. There was only one other room used on our floor - so I wonder why they would put us next to the convention center - but they did. The location is great for The Alhambra - but not so great for doing things in Granada (like eating and shopping).
excellent
Our large well appointed room had fantastic views. First class service and excellent food added further to very pleasureable stay. Only minutes walk from the Alhambra Palace and very close to the city centre and other attractions - served buy a very frequent bus service for those finding the hills a little difficult to cope with. Highly recommended
Great Location, Great Views, Mediocre rooms
I am really torn about giving this hotel anything more than an average rating, because were it not perched on the hillside, overlooking all of Granada, and a few minutes from the Alhambra entrance, it wouldn't have too much going for it. As other reviewers have pointed out, the hotel rooms are very basic and not very impressive. I enjoyed the tilework in the bathrooms and the balcony the bathroom had. But for what claims to be a four star hotel, you can't find the most basic amenities in the room - not even a radio-alarm, or any cups, or anything more than the beds and TV. However, having said that, if your primary purpose is the Alhambra, you can't get more convenient than this, and the views from the rooms and the terrace are fantastic. The lobby area has alot of faux-Moorish decorations and reminded me of some of the tacky aspects of the Vegas hotels. The food is overpriced and mediocre and the service was very slow the night we ate on the terrace. However, the staff was friendly and helpful at all times. If you plan on spending alot of time in Granada itself, I would not stay here. If, however, your goal is the Alhambra, this is a very convenient hotel and the view itself may be worth it. Having said that, there are quite a few cheaper options right around the corner from it and you can always simply visit to have tea or coffee on the terrace and enjoy the view, without paying the price for staying at this place.
good
Good hotel, good service, ask for a room over looking the city of Granada. the centre is only a short walk down a steep hill there are plenty of buses back to the hotel from the bottom of the hill they run every 5 minutes or so.the restaurant was nothing special you should eat in the centre. The hotel could not get me tickets for Alhambra Palace so if you want to visit the Palace book well in advance.
The Palace Needs Attention...
Just finished a 2 week trip through Spain and Portugal, staying at 5 of the top hotels in the region. By far, the Alhambra Palace was the most disappointing. The property could actually be an incredible place. However, as it stands today it isn't worth the price. I upgraded to a Junior suite to get a better room, which didn't help. The sofa and chairs in the room were filthy (I've seen better furniture in garage sales), one of our windows wouldn't close, leaking what limited AC we had, bed was a rock, etc. I'm sure the proximity to the Alhambra keeps this place in business.
