" this was our third visit to this... "

this was our third visit to this hotel and once again we had another enjoyable stay.the food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful, one thing we have noticed in our stays here is that british guests do seem to be in the minority! With Agios Nikolaos only a ten minute walk away the hotel is ideally situated and the sea views amazing. The only downside was the lengthy journey by the tour operators coach to and from the airport, i would probably get a taxi next time.

" Just back from family holiday with my... "

Just back from family holiday with my wife and children 15 and 16 year old to the Mirimare Hotel in Crete. The hotel is set on a hillside just off the coast in a beautiful bay. Our sea view room was small but you are not in the room much so this was no hardship. Room has a fridge so you could buy cold drinks at the local shop 100 yards away and keep them cold. Sitting on the balcony in the evening looking over the bay was wonderful. The hotel bar that was a few floors above us had similar outlook as did the restaurant. Hotel is set in a hillside so quite a hike to the reception from sea level with most of the rooms above this level(but not all so ask for rooms on 2nd 3rd or 4th level). Hotel has a small pool at reception level and larger pool right at the top level with pool bar/restaurant,this had a very friendly waiter and served excellent food, even for a fussy 16 year old. Plenty of sun beds so no need to get up and reserve them with towels in the morning.
Other facilities were tennis court, gym, pool table, board games.
We were half board ,which we were not sure about before going, but were very pleasantly surprised at the quality and variety of food on offer. Drinks are not cheap but where is now that the euro is so strong. Staff very friendly, curteous and helpful.
10 minute walk from a beach that has water sports (jet ski/banana boat/water skiing etc). Beach sandy and shallow in the sea for a good way out.
15-20 minute walk to Ag Nik which has a good variety of bars and restaurants both at the marina (closest to hotel) or at the port/lake. Best meal outside the hotel was at the marina ( retaurant called ava I believe).Taxis tended to be €5 even though you were only going about a mile so they are expensive.
Plenty of trips and places to visit if you want (we did boat trip and jeep safari which both kids enjoyed).
Very warm in Crete but where we were had a very welcome breeze most days.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to be in a relaxing and quiet setting but not far from town and beach

" We went to Crete Mira Mare Hotel and... "

We went to Crete Mira Mare Hotel and had a fantastic time however we paid £5000 all of us all together for nice rooms which we didn’t get! The shower was broken, the bed boards fell apart, damp on the walls, no safe which was said to be included and excrement in the swimming pool which was just fished out with a net.

Whilst swimming in the pool our family and a few others we’d met suffered stinging on the face and redness of the skin due to over added chlorine and dirty water! We complained about our rooms and eventually kicked up a fuss - the boss gave us his villa but he said this was a one off! The villa made our holiday, our own pool and view of the beach! What we weren’t informed of was that our private pool was subject to typhoid - it took 2 days for them to sort it but eventually did.

We had a daily cleaner who was very friendly to the children as well as all the staff! The food upstairs on the ala carte is definitely not for children and more rather suited to people with adult tastes, they served very traditional food - very nice! The hotel offers alot to do and very easy access to beaches but its not all beaches there’s excursions the hotel run and jet skiing nearby - you must try it!

The hotel wasn’t as good as we expected however we do tend to have high expectations for what we intend to book. If it wasn’t for the villa the boss lent us we’d probably never even enjoyed staying there!

The balconies on the rooms were noted as dangerous on a sign as there are high strong winds! Not suitable for children playing around! We had an amazing holiday despite all the downers and were planning on going back to Crete, not to the same hotel but definitely Agios Nikolaos! Don’t be fooled by the henna tattoos in the town, they stain the bedroom sheets and you'll end up getting a £40 fine like we did!

But overall a fantastic holiday experience.

" If you want a nice quiet holiday in... "

If you want a nice quiet holiday in the sun then this is the place to be. We were there for the first 2 weeks of the Scottish summer holidays which is just before the English school holidays start and the hotel at that time was about 65% Italians and 25% French with the rest mixed Europeans.

The bulk of the hotel guests disappeared to spend the day at the beach and this left lots of room in and around the pool. My wife thought that the pool was on the cold side but myself and the boys (16,13 and 9) thought it was fine.

If you prefer swimming in the sea you can walk down the slope to a pebbled beach about 50 yards from the front of the hotel. There are also sandy beaches within easy walking distance if you want to break out the bucket and spade.

The hotel enjoys an elevated position so the views are good and if there is any breeze you will get the benefit of it. Our rooms were a good size, clean and the air conditioning was excellent.

There is a large "No smoking" area in the restaurant. Good buffet food but avoid all that frozen out of season food aimed at the British (Brussels sprouts and Cauliflower) and opt for the tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, Aubergines.... all locally produced and delicious. Good selection of salads, meat and fish dishes. The dessert selection was not tremendous but there was plenty of fruit and cheeses available.

The hotel staff all spoke excellent English and there is a small shop on the first floor where you can get a small selection of goods including bottled water etc for the fridge in your room.

" This was our first experience of... "

This was our first experience of Crete and the hotel lived up to the description given by the booking clerk at travel bargains. The food was excellent, the accomodation was spacious and the view over the bay was stunning. I would not recommend this hotel if you have problems walking up steep slopes as the hotel is built into a hill and it gets very hot in July. The staff were very friendly and the service excellent.

I would also recommend booking a taxi yourself from the airport to the hotel as the tour operators bus takes two and a half hours instead of 50-55 minutes by taxi.
