Minos Palace Hotel

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of June. We, too, had reservations about it after reading the negative reviews. Wouldn't say it is a 5 star but definitely a very good 4 star. Drinks ARE expensive but if you stay in a 5* then you should expect 5* prices. The food wasn't terribly exciting but it was always fresh, plentiful and dishes were refilled regularly as the serving dishes weren't large. The hotel is in a fabulous location on the headland with great views out to sea and across to the town. Generally, we found it to be of a high standard in terms of cleanliness and facilities - probably a four star in uk standards. Our room was lovely with a fantastic view and large balcony - the suites with private pools looked very nice indeed, if you wanted to have something more exclusive. Having booked the Minos Palace well in advance last year we were very concerned, after reading some of the reviews, that we would be very disappointed. I am delighted to say we found the hotel, staff and location to be excellent. I don't know whether the hotel has read some of the negative comments and therefore taken heed but we had no complaints whatsoever. Quite the opposite, the staff went out of their way to help at all times, prices are what you would expect in a 5 star hotel. If you don't liike the prices then there are plenty of bars... more

This hotel is definately not worthy of a 5* rating, the food was very average, and like the Bacchus Bar, drinks are very, very expensive and no atmosphere. Even with a "do not disturb" sign on the door, the Mini Bar Police still let themselves in at around 9am ish, so no chance of a lie in on your holiday!! We agree with the comments from 5. September 2005 from a German couple. We stayed at Minos Palace for two weeks ending on 23rd September 2005. We had cockroaches and ants in our room, fantastic don't you think. Fortunately the cleaning staff did help out with spraying and poisening. The head waiter was always picking on the restaurant staff and telling them off in front of the hotel guests. What a terrible man he is, he wasn't very friendly either. We booked a supposed five star hotel in Crete, the Minos Palace, with Thomas Cook tours. Needless to say I was a little shocked at the quality of the rooms when we arrived.....three star at best! Ok...so it was not what I expected.....at least the weather was great!! The other thing to avoid is the food.....it was the not to standard....and neither was the service. Not a bad place....just not as advertised in the Thomas Cook brochure.

I have just arrived back from a week long stay in the Minos Palace Hotel and before i went I was a bit nervous because of some of the reveiws I read. I can honestly say the this was probably the best holiday that i have ever been on. When your accomodation is as top class as this one it really makes a holiday that extra bit better. Just returned from two weeks holiday at the Minos Palace (September 2004). Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, fantastic location, rooms very clean, comfortable and modern, staff helpful and friendly. The food buffet was always well presented, an excellent choice offered and extremely good quality.

We have stayed at the Minos Palace many times and have always enjoyed our holiday there, The staff in the dining room and reception have always been lovely and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are very nice and the views are superb. The food is perhaps not 5star standard but it was better this year and there was more choice. Many people return to this hotel year after year and it is a very relaxing place. Our only complaint is the new assistant manager who is arrogant and surly with both guests and staff... more

Superb views. Poor hotel.Not worthy of 5 stars. Management on cost cutting exercise, therefore facilities are running down.Poor food,lack of staff, grounds and gardens lack attention, many more problems. Management couln`t care less. Many better hotels in the area. Avoid
