Tryp Macarena

I have just returned from an excellent 3 day stay and would reiterate the comments in the previous review. My only slight moan would be that the bar closed at 11pm, and not 1am as it stated in its literature, but we were able to get room service up until midnight. In terms of value for money, I could not fault the hotel, its facilities, pool and location.

After reading some reviews here I was slightly apprehensive about staying at the Tryp Macarena, however after seeing it for the first time, my initial impression was favourable and actually grew more postive during the stay. The hotel itself is large and is housed in a rather pretty building on the northern fringes of the city centre. I thought this may have been a problem in terms of walking to destinations and finding decent cafe/restaurants etc but the location proved to be fine. My boyfriend & I spent 4 nights at the Tryp Macarena in mid-March 2006. I cannot recommend this hotel enough! As others have said, the location isn't perfect for the main Seville sights, but as long as you've got a good pair of legs you won't find a problem! My wife and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in the early part of March. The public rooms are smart and appealing especially the bar area with its tables under a glass roof. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice, especially of fruit. The staff are all very friendly and good at their jobs - and the barman is exceptional, charming and with a good command of English. This hotel may be a bit out of the centre but can be recommended anyway. Rooms are not huge, but well equiped and you are given a large choice of head pillows if the one on the bed does not suit you. Very nice bathroom. Breakfast selection is nice and there should be something for every taste. For those who fancy early morning alcohol, there is spanish cava available. Buses leave outside hotel, but walking tho the centre when taking the narrow streets behing the old city walls is not far. Beware of a restauraunt close to the hotel... more

I will start with the hotel's only disadvantages: 1) it is not centrally-located so it is not practical to walk to Sevilla's main site on foot. On the other hand, there is a bus stop 2-3 mins from the hotel's entrance, with frequent buses going to the centre and to the railways station. 2) there are no decent restaurants nearby If you can tolerate the above, this will be one of the best hotels you have ever stayed at! Have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Macarena booked through Thomas Cook. Overall impressions of the hotel were excellent. The rooms were clean and of a decent size, with mini bar, in-room safe and very effective air conditioning for the 46 degree high heat!! All the staff that we met were excellent and most spoke very good English and appreciated our poor attempts at Spanish! Loved every minute in this fab hotel where a friend and I stayed for 3 nights. Room great, overlooking road but any noise totally blocked out so no probs sleeping. Air-con was a god send. Staff really friendly, polite and could speak good english. Handy underground car park, although this costs 12 euros extra per night. Hotel is near enough to walk to all the sights easily. Gorgeous pool on the roof. Had one evening meal which was just ok..better to choose from many restaurants/cafes nearby. Only paid £39 for twin room. Bargain!... more

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! As a university professor I have taken over 20 tour groups of students, alumni, and senior citizens to various parts of Europe. This hotel was by far the worst place I have ever stayed. The staff was very unorganized and tremendously rude. Dinner was like a feeding frenzy at the Ponderosa - it was a total mob scene. My participants and I waited in line, along with hundreds of other hotel guests, in the dinner buffet for nearly 30 minutes before getting anything to eat.
