Parador de Carmona

Stayed here for 3 nights, paid extra for a superior room [175 euro total per night] so we had a balcony which offered fantastic views and a great place to sit and have a drink. The mini bar was a fair price compared to some hotels I have stayed in, a bottle of beer about £1.60, half bottle of cava £3, room service was good, great sandwiches about £4. What a castle!! Struck in awe by the photos and the location as a base for Andalucia by car we drove down from France confident in the Parador.........however we were in for a very sour surprise. When we stepped in we were warmly greeted and taken to our room. We were immediately confronted to our neighbors toilet flush, their voices.......every detail of the conversation, and the noise of footsteps al over!!!!!! In April of 2006, I was traveling with a tour group to pousadas and paradors of Portugal and Spain. Carmona was on our itinerary. I had been to Spain and stayed in paradors two previous occasions. My spoken Spanish is good and I always try to approach a reception desk with a smile and a salutation in the host language. Note well that the parador is around 30 km from Seville. So if you're looking for a convenient location this place is not for you. The staff is very nice and helpful though. They speak English perfectly. The moment you entered the place it was stunning. However, the room was quite old.. relecting the feeling of the place I guess. However if you can't stay in a closed room with only 1 narrow window, you might want to reconsider your choice. But maybe it's just the style of the old builidng of Europe.. being in a castle.. We spent 4 nights in this hotel and had a great time. Very relaxing environment with stunning views across the plain. Excellent food (including local cuisine)and attentive staff. Lovely courtyard with trickling fountain where we whiled away many hours. We also enjoyed the town which (apart from the youths on mopeds) is quiet most of the time. The pool is closed out of season. Our room was large - for 3 people, it had a single bed in a separate room which was handy for storing luggage. Had a fantastic view over the countryside and the pool (no balcony though) - the Parador is perched on the side of the hill, about a 10 minute walk from the main town square. The bathroom was up to usual Parador standards (very nicely outfitted) and bed was comfortable. Breakfast buffet very similar to other Paradors (good range of fresh, tasty foods).
