Average Hotel
I stayed at the Tropicana Rosetta for 1 week 05/11/06 - 12/11/06 on a half board basis with my girlfriend, I did alot of research on hotels in Naama Bay as it was my 1st stay in Egypt as felt this was the best choice given the options i had as we booked only a few weeks before we flew out. First impressions were good, nice welcome and help finding room etc. accomodation was basic and average but clean (which is main thing) There was no double bed but 2 single beds although they were big enough for us both and im 6' 3"! the room had everything we needed, kettle, oven, sink, cuttlery, bathroom, air con, fridge etc etc. After spending a week there i probably wouldn't go back unless it was the last hotel available! The reason being our room was located at the far end of the complex where work was still being carried out and underneath us was a storage or workers room of some kind so every morning we were woken up at around 6am ish. I didnt mind 2 much as we wanted to be up early as sunrise is around 6ish too and we needed to get to the beach but this would probably p*ss most people off! another reason is that my girlfriend left her mobile phone in the room hidden in her make up bag, which was stolen by the cleaner (this was the only time she didnt use the safety deposit box which everyone gets) so frist oppurtunity to thief an item it happens, he had to root through her belongings as well to find it! i reported him right away and the hotel did an investigation. the phone was never recovered and the only thing they did was be very apologetic and we was told we didnt have to leave the room at 12pm on the last day, we could use it untill our pickup time at 15:30pm. he did a report for us to take to our insurance though. The food was just about ok for 1 week, it gets pretty boring and 2 weeks would be a struggle to keep an appetite for the same food. the food is nice and everything is set up perfectly, just could do with a bit more change after a couple of days. Location of this hotel is good. only 5 min walk into Naama Bay centre, no point getting a taxi unless your very lazy! :) the hotel shares a beach with Gaffy's hotel and another, the beach we went on everyday was extremely busy and we had to be there for 8am ish to get a bed at the front. the beach entertainment is excellent though! this was the best thing about the hotel, the beach is about 5mins walk from Tropicana so no problems there. Overall the hotel is ok for a weeks stay, just remember to use the safety deposit box AT ALL TIMES and for ANYTHING of value. Even though the staff were nice and helpful, every average or above hotel should be the same as Sharm is run by tourism and it shows all over, every worker from cleaner , bar tender to manager is very helpful. We are going back to Egypt in May but will be searching for a hotel with better reviews as our own experience was just average, not enough for us to return again.
Wonderful Stay
We absolutely loved our stay in Sharm el Sheik. After the transfer bus dropped off others at some pretty fancy hotels, I wasn't sure what to expect of the Tropicana Rosetta. But we were very impressed with what we found. The staff are so lovely and welcoming. They all speak English and will do anything to help, in particular the poolside barman, the man who cleaned our rooms and the man in the Mini Market! Our room was located near the second pool, which is about a 5 minute walk from Reception. Its a nice walk though, don't be put off by it. My only concern was that our room was a little bit shabby, but considering we only paid £350 each for a week, I didn't complain!! The poolside rooms seemed nicer. The pool area is lovely with plenty of sunbeds available. There are also a couple of slides attached to pool for little children at the second pool. Breakfast each morning was nice but varied, so don't expect a Full English every day. We ate one evening at the downstairs restaurant (where breakfast is served) which was an open buffet and very nice. After a night out, we came back to the resort and there was some traditional dancing going on at the outside restaurant. Unfortunately I got pulled up on stage with the svelte belly dancer who put me miserably to shame! But it was fun, nonetheless. When you leave the hotel to go to Naama Bay, there's usually a few taxi drivers willing to take you up - barter for a good price. Anymore than 20 Egyptian pounds, and I'd advise trying someone else. Its only a 10 minute walk anyway. All in all, we had a marvellous time and by 3 days into our holiday were discussing coming back. P.S. - make sure you go snorkelling at Ras Mohammed - its not to be missed!
Tropicana Rosetta very good
My girlfriend and i recently returned from a 12 day stay at the Tropicana Rosetta. The hotel was very clean, all the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. we stayed in the top section of the hotel, the tiled floor to and from the room throughout the grounds could proove to be a bit tricky for those whom are not too steady on their feet, as they are quite steep and slippery in parts. We had a great view of the pool from our balcony and there were allways plenty sunloungers on offer. so it was never any trouble getting one even if you woke up after dinner!! the main restaurant had a great selection of foods for breakfast, lunch and evening meal each day. This varied each day with different themed foods. The outdoor restaurant was very nice and well worth a visit. It was good not to have to leave the hotel if you were tired from the days activities and still enjoy great food and entertainment, then some sheesha to finish!!! When in Rome The manager of this place, Mohamed, is a great guy, very helpful and friendly.. For diving and snorkelling, right next door is the Emporer Dive School. Which is mainly run by British Divers. The hotel has two private beaches, but these are at least a 10 minute walk from the hotel, and be carefu;lm when crossing the busy Peace Road outside the hotel, as they drive a bit crazy there, often without lights at night!! The Black Horse Nightclub is ok, but the better nights out are definately to be had in Naama Bay. There are cashh machines in the reception area and the reception staff are also very helpful. Overall this hotel was great and i would recommend it. But i would not recommend it to the elderly or anyone who uses a wheelchair or walking aids as there are a lot of steps and steep slopes throughout the hotel, also the busy road could be a problem. we would definately go back and stay there again though.
Very Basic hotel
We travelled from 11/09/2006 for one week. The hotel complex is based on a hill side in the namma bay region and is totally unsuitable for those not steady on their feet or with walking difficulty. The hotel complex is very basic and is currently under refurbishment. Which the travel agents forget to tell you !! Whilst this was not a problem for us as we were out all day diving, those staying in the resort by the lower pool side had to endure the building work all around them. When we arrive we were put in a recently refurbished and painted room and could only stay one night due to the chocking smell of paint. Also the air conditioning did not work in this room. Happily the hotel manager moved us immediately with no fuss. Our second room was a good walk up the hill side to the top pool area and was very dated. The bathroom was in serious need of repair with cracked tiles and rotten wood. There was a constant smell of swage outside the rooms and the hotel water supply failed on one evening. Three of our party were taken ill during the stay, one quiet seriously due to a tummy bug. I would not like to have taken children here as a number of the man hole covers on the walk ways were left open without any warning signs. The upper pool swim-to bar is in a sorry state and I would not recommend eating from this bar area. Overall hotel and buffet food is very basic, but just OK if you are a diver and want to be close to emporer divers who are situated just next door. Staff do their best and are very freindly, there is a small mini-market which sells water and other essentials.
Carn't wait to go back
i have just stayed at this hotel with my two teenage daughters for two weeks.I had read previous reviews and was unsure what to expect having stayed in the Hilton last year with them. We had a brilliant time, the staff were very friendly and helpful - no problem at all ! The food was really nice (i do work in the catering industry !), and much better than the hilton's food !! Rooms were a bit 'tired' but for sleeping what more do you need ? Pools were great too, even at 5am (security were not happy though !) Yes there are many steps to walk up depending where your room is but we all need exercise! Only 5mins walk from naama bay, loads of bars and clubs to go to - explore the town you'll always find more places to go !!!! Black House disco in hotel was fun, my girls loved it ! Def' return next year all we need to do now is save and re-book!
Fantastic Hotel and great time had by all
Booked hotel through Regal Dive from 13th to 20th August 06. First of all I was very glad to some Egyptian hospitality after arriving at the hotel, after a 5 hour flight from Gatwick airport (UK) and a 9-10 hour delay, with all these new hand luggage restrictions coming into force. However there were 7 of us so we kept ourselves entertained. We were all based near the front of the hotel, so the rooms had be recently refurbished, the standard was okay and no complaints on that front at all. I've read this site and seen the list of complaints here and there, but generally had good reviews. Well the good news is that the building works at the front of the hotel is finished. The food was good on the whole, with a good selection for everyone's taste, well you can never satisfy everyone but I suppose,, no complaints from any of my friends either. We were a cross section of people on this trip; 3 from Dominica with one being from the USA, 5 from the UK of which 2 were muslims. It did amuse the locals a bit when we went walking within Naama Bay. A typical line being " Hello Sir, where you from, ah London, you cockney....luvly jubbly diamond geezer" It could be annoying for some people but I found it amusing on the whole and played along with it. Anyone of muslim origin is allowed to use the hotel mosque. The staff in the hotel were all fine, learn some basic arabic, The Egyptian variety seems to be slang as opposed to Saudi arabic, but it goes down a treat with the locals, they appreciate your efforts at the end of the day and will correct you if you are wrong. We went to the President's mosque one day and met one of the hotel reception staff there, we were given a superb guided tour of the place and not everybody has the priviledge of getting that out there. The scuba diving is also fantastic and The Red Sea is one of the best diving places in the world, so non divers, try out a DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) course, you may like it, if not you can stop there or carry on to do your Open Water Course (4 days). The pool areas and bar areas were also fine, I enjoyed conversations in English and Arabic to some of the pool staff, but watch out for the sun, you will get burnt if you are not careful. Eating outside of the hotel is even cheaper, so explore Naama Bay because the average cost is only a £5.00 a head (UK money). Have fun everyone!
Bad choice of hotel
I booked myself and my daughter to this hotel from the 20th July for one week, after spending the previous week at the Sierra Resort in Sharm. This was my third visit to Sharm, and my daughters second visit to Sharm in 12 months, and have stayed in other hotels previously, including the RADISSON SAS, SHERATON SHARM, and Amar Sina. The Tropicana Rosetta is advertised as a 3 star, in Sharm, a 4 star. Please take this star rating as complete rubbish. On arrival, the whole frontage of the building had been demolished. We were NOT made aware of the serious building work that was going on. Two of the pools were blocked off. Scaffolding was everywhere. The pool by rooms 1710 onwards, was so unsafe. Not one of the pool drains on the pool walls were covered with any safety device, and god forbid, should you catch your hair etc in it, I am not being over dramatic, but it would result in a serious accident. The staff, apart from the cleaners were completely abyssmal, rude, and never spoke. The pool bar man shouted at me, right in my face. DO not buy any mags/papers from the fella running around the hotel. As for the breakfast, do not eat any uncovered food. The actual breakfast room was so small and cramped, dirty and dull. I know that I did not pay a fortune for this hotel, but the main concern, is the swimming pool. BEWARE, if you are on your way out there soon, avoid the POOL area, especially if you have kiddies. The front of the building does not exist. The reception staff are very unhelpful also. All in all, I have stayed at mega cheap hostels throughout the world, and this so called 3 star does not warrant even a 1 star. If I were you I would change your hotel. I complained and within the hour got moved to their sister hotel, the Garen Palms, now that was a four star!
there is nothing wrong with the Tropicana Rosetta Hotel
Just come back from this hotel the second time staying here.First time stayed 2 weeks christmas and newyear both times had a great time. Fantastic base 5 minutes walk to the beach 5 minutes walk into Naama Bay. There were people moaning whilst we were there well if you want full luxury book one of the hotels over the road it will cost you three times the price..........yes three times the price. it would be fair to say the Tropicanna Roseta is a little tired here and there but it is well above average. My partner and l had a ball the weather was fantastic, the location is brilliant, the breakfasts great and eating out in Sharm is unbelievably cheap......The bartering is a little in your face but once you adapt to their way its not a problem. The Egyptians are quite a bunch of jokers once you get to understand them. We will definatly go back , magical place, incredibly cheap, fantastic weather and only 5 hours flight Wouildnt hesitate to go on my own if l wanted a last minute holiday with guaranteed sunshine felt very safe ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY ( YOU WILL )
hotel in the sun
The hotel itself is ok when i stayed it was having some building work done at the rear of hotel. if you have any walking difficulties dont stay here as the hotel has a backdrop of the sinai mountains and from the road goes on a staedy incline. the hotel complex is massive 5 pools we had a problem with our room when we had been there only a few hours the huge marble slate round the sink in the bathroom just cracked away from the wall and fell making a huge mess the hotel tried to make us pay which obviously i refused threw a wobbly and had to get a rep to argue with them and she was bigger and won. after this we were offered free dinner one night. The dining room flooded with water when we were in a second week and after this alot of guests became ill. Breakfast was the only food i ate there and there was plenty of selection including lovely fresh bread of all kinds. ladies who wish at the top pool we managed to get everyone to agree that it was ok to go topless even though signs said not to the people at the pool bar said if we all agreed it was ok. The hotel provided towels to lay by pool with and also at the beach but dont be fooled the beach is only over the road but not a beach you can go on for free. ones the hotel has acsess to are either left or right from where you cross the one thats right is a close walk into centre of naama bay so is ok if youre young but is tiny and loungers are together its also a little close to the port bit to the left. Suggest the beach to the left infront of Days Inn you need to get a ticket from hotel lobby to get towels and so you dont have to pay. You can snorkell straight out from this beach. lovely place to buy fresh pizza from on the way back to hotel.you can change money here or banks close by in naama bay the safe system is good needs your key and also one from hotel staff to open. its a good budget price hotel but if you can afford to stay on the other side of the road with a hotel with direct accsess to the beach.
Fantastic time at Rosetta
My wife and I have just returned from staying at the Tropicana Rosetta for a week B AND B April 9th till 17th 2006. We have never been on holiday at this time of year and was looking for somewhere hot and sunny to just relax and have a few beers on an evening. We fell on our feet because the Rosetta was excellent in every way. It was only a five to ten minute stroll away from the busy Naama Bay, with all it's restaurants and bars and shops. The hotel has a few pools in the exstensive grounds and we loved the one at the top up the steps with the swim up bar, it was just sooo relaxing and very clean. The staff at the hotel were the most helpful I have ever come accross making for our stay to be even more relaxing. You can even get a FREE safe deposit box from behind reception, which I thought was a very good idea ! The weather was excellent, not a cloud in sight for the whole week with temperatures in the high 30's. We loved this holiday and are booking again for next Easter without a doubt. The Tropicana Rosetta is ideally located, clean (but basic), friendly and very relaxing !! I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a fantastic holiday !! We took a day trip to Cairo from the hotel costing approx £230, seems steep but we flew to Cairo from Sharm (1hr) and had a guide all day, seeing all the sights like the pyramids etc. It's an early start (4am) and very tiring but well worth it, well, you can't visit Egypt without seeing the pyramids!!! Roll on next Easter !!!!! Just one tip for people travelling to Sharm for the first time : there is no need to obtain a visa if you do not plan to leave Sharm El Sheik, we did not get one, but our rep sorted one out for us for our trip to Cairo.
