" No problems getting to Manchester... "

No problems getting to Manchester Airport quick and easy despite extra security.
Once on the plane first a crew member had to be replaced due to illness. Then there was a problem with the forward galley. This meant we were an hour and a quarter late taking off. All through the flight the pilot kept us extremely well informed and also made up half an hour, some of that was due to a passenger becoming seriously ill.

The Hotel

As per norm for a beach hotel in Sharm it is on a slope, with four blocks of rooms, there are also some villas nearest the beach. There is a pool bar, on the beach a soft drink's bar and a full bar (Sand Beach Bar), as well as the Lobby bar. The bar staff are friendly but a lot of them appear to be unhappy with the hotel.

The drinks do not appear to be of as good a quality as those last year at the Hilton, but measures quite large and new drinks appear before the first is half drunk. The staff are very caring for their customers and special alternate drinks appear when you've got Egyptian tummy.

Food
There are three dining areas;

The main dining room,

The Italian restaurant (Mamma Mia), /Snack bar (The Dolphin),

The Beach restaurant which is the Oriental & Fisherman restaurant at night.

All have one big hygiene problem, sparrows, which the staff are aware of but do nothing and allow them to eat the food at the serveries.

Breakfast
No fruit
No beef bacon
Sausages not bad
Omelettes/pancakes freshly cooked *****
Cereals - good choice *****
Filter coffee/tea free ******
Fair choice of other foods

Snacks
Pasta, Meatballs, Salad, Mini pizza, *

Lunch
Good choice of meats and vegetables
Plenty of fruit
Fresh pasta
Filter coffee/tea free

Dinner
Ice cream is extra to AI! as is fresh juices, expresso and cappuccino. Good choice of meats roasts and in sauces and pies are excellent, vegetables not many on offer but well presented.

Drink
Expresso and cappuccino extra
Imported spirits expensive as expected measures of local spirits very generous and don't taste right, the Whisky tastes like Tequila. Rum is best local spirit. Beer served in glasses from draught and is very gassy. All inclusive different for different countries. Italian -no alcohol. Russian/Polish /Cezh no wine. UK/German no ice cream.

Pools
Freeform pools + kiddies pool clean but not heated colder than the sea.

Gymnasium
Basic 2000 equip + free weights
Equipment tired. Personal trainer an ex Mr Egypt friendly and helpful.

Sea
Usual entry via pontoon. A very alive reef lot's of fish. Very slight current normally left to right, but does change. Reef has pinnacles on both sides of the pontoon, the one on left has marker buoy as top is about half a metre underwater. Usual problem of people walking on the coralline shelf.

Diving
Single dives work out at £41 the courses £41.80 with €30 certification fee, so Course a very good option as each dive is instructor accompanied. Dive School (Werner Lau) VERY up to date for health problems and supportive.

Excursions
Local hotel based organiser cheaper. My wife went on a Quad bike trip on Friday 1st week and parasending on Thursday 2nd week.

Thomson Support
"Welcome meeting” as usual hard sell of dearest trips. Still have Dolphinella on list despite all complaints for last few years.

No local information given except for presence of a few shops 10 minute walk away and about the public beach near the jetty at Sharks Bay.

Nothing said about tummy upsets just a passing reference to the "Health and Safety” leaflets.

Some information about taxis regarding cost but not taxi safety.

Naama Bay
Accessible by free hotel bus service that is free all day. Yet Naama Bay doesn’t seem as busy this year shopkeepers still trying hard to get you to buy but not as hard as last year, and prices not as cheap.

" I think this hotel has had a pretty... "

I think this hotel has had a pretty bad deal from people who have reviewed it so far. I read some reviews and admit I got a little worried from the reports I read, this is why I felt I needed to review it.

Sharm el sheik is quite charming a little unfinished but I think it all adds to the charm of the place. The hotel is spotlessly clean and there was no creepy crawlies what so ever. In fact when I went to Cairo I was amazed at the amount of flying insects about, I had not seen any in Sharm el sheik.

The catering may not be perfect but we had a choice of 3 different restaurants if you book them you will be able to find something to suit. The desserts were beautiful and my husband and I were treated like royalty by the hotel all week.

Rooms were cleaned on a daily basis as was the sheets if you required (or requested) it. The whole hotel is made of marble giving you a sense of opulence, and I felt the staff could not do enough to help us.

The only thing I would advise giving a miss is Sharm town where you are literally bullied and badgered into making purchases.

Overall a wonderful quiet holiday, plenty to do if you like the water or shopping Naama Bay is fantastic, and only about five pounds to get to, recommended.

" Excellent hotel. Staff helpful.... "

Excellent hotel. Staff helpful. Plenty of good food and drink. Corals and snorkelling was excellent.

Been to Sharm twice this year and have not had any problems with the airport and collecting baggage. Everyone at the airport is friendly and helpful.

There is no need to tip either in the airport or the hotel. Although we did at the end.

I would say this was one of the best holidays I have had and have no hesitation of going again.

" We went just for a weeks break to... "

We went just for a weeks break to this most wonderful hotel. The hotel is the most beautiful and spotless clean place we have ever been. Everything is such good quality the surroundings, the staff and facilities. The pool is huge no problems getting a sun bed and the staff even put your towel on the bed for you.

Hotel rooms spotless clean but everywhere through out the hotel was. Food was a great selection something for everyone. If you like the sea you will love to see all the fish coming straight up to you its amazing.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Sharm. Don’t go for one week you will need 2 at this most wonderful beautiful hotel.

" This hotel was every thing I hoped... "

This hotel was every thing I hoped for. I have never gone all inclusive before and I was impressed by the range of foods and restaurants available. The place was cleaned constantly, the staff were first class, the foods catered for all tastes therefore everything was not British but there was always something nice to eat. The pool was clean, the snorkeling was great to do but it was just as good to watch from the pontoon-like pier.

Only Egyptian drinks available so take your own if you like the real thing in spirits but lager is good. Hotel is isolated, there is nothing much in the area but the bus runs into Sharm regularly, you need to book it in advance. Rooms are cleaned every day, they even lift the beds and clean under them, they fold your clothes up and tidy the room all with a smile.

Nothing was too much trouble. The air conditioning is included in the price and is needed! The entertainment is virtually non existent but we met some great people and had a wonderful time. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The only downside is the tummy upsets but I gather that it happens all over Egypt not just this hotel.

" I visited Sharm this year and... "

I visited Sharm this year and personally I didn't like it. The hotel has a very grand reception area which is a talking point in itself. The rooms are nice and spacious enough for what you want on a holiday. The hotel is massive and if you are staying near the front of the hotel there is about a 3-4 minute walk to the beach. The beach is just grit but the sea is clear and you are able to see all the fish just by standing on the edge of the beaches cliff, as it is not like to beaches you get in Spain, to get into the sea there is a floating jetty, which is small for the number of people at the hotel.

The food at the hotel is not great, the choice in the main buffet hall is limited to chicken, cold pasta, bread, potatoes and rice not a lot really. If you are a fussy eater there is not a great lot to eat, as I hardly ate on this holiday and the food will be cold. The 3 specialty restaurants where nicer than the main buffet hall, the food was hot/warm, as they were my main eating places I got to know the staff and they were lovely. The staff at the hotel are all very helpful and will do whatever they can for you. They were the best part of the holiday and the only reason I have given the place a 5/10.

There is not much around the hotel so you need to go into Naama Bay which is a short taxi ride from the hotel. Once you are in Naama Bay you can be man handled to go into shops you don't want to go into and for young women you will need to accept that you will be spoken to like dirt, I wouldn't recommend young women walking around on their own, the men there are just slimy.

I can honestly say I will never go to Sharm El Sheikh again and will not go back to any part of Egypt ever.

" What can I say? This hotel has... "

What can I say? This hotel has everything you could possibly ask for, private beach, massive pools, friendly staff, lovely surroundings, the only thing I would say is the Russians and Italians need some lessons in politeness!

I was impressed with how clean the place was and how friendly the staff were. I honestly wish I could have stayed two weeks here. I would recommend Sharm and the Tropicana Grand Oasis to anyone. The snorkeling from the hotel beach is a must, its just like another world.

The only thing I found was that the entertainment is aimed at the Italians, but that didn’t matter to me as Naama bay is a short taxi drive away and worth a visit-amazing is the only way to describe the place.

This place was fantastic, I will be returning!

" My first visit to this hotel, but... "

My first visit to this hotel, but third visit to Sharm, and again thoroughly enjoyed it. A big thumbs up to the hotel, its staff, facilities and the on-site dive centre, brilliant!

The dive centre gave an excellent service, with shore dives, boat trips and courses available at what seem to be the regular market rates. I booked my PADI advanced course and received one-to-one instruction on 5 boat dives.

I'd be more than happy to return to this hotel.

" We have just returned from our second... "

We have just returned from our second visit to this hotel, we visited it in August 2005 and loved it so much couldn't wait to return.

Hotel: The hotel is spotless! And very pleasant throughout. The pool is cleaned every day as are the surrounding areas. The pool attendants are very polite and can not do enough for the guests (even without tips).

Rooms: Air Con works well (A Must!) Cleaned every day and more than adequate facilities within the room.

Food:
The main restaurant offers a very good selection of food for everyone in the mornings there are cereals, every type of egg including omlettes, breads, toast, meats and pastries as well as sausages, toms etc. Lunch there is a kids corner, salads, sandwich corner, pasta corner as well as desserts and buffet of chicken, chips etc. The choice of 3 restaurants Italian/Seafood/Oriental means you always have an option and are will always find something you like.

Staff:
If only the rest of the Hotels in the world could bring their people here for Staff training. Outstanding! Of particular note, Sammy, An absolute star! And now a firm friend...

Entertainment:
Bearing in mind that this hotels caters for Multiple Nationalities, the entertainment is adequate, although does have an Italian bias. If you want good English entertainment. Go to Butlins!

Beach:
None as such, but the Jetty gives access to snorkeling and diving that can only be compared to diving into an aquarium!

Bars: All the bar staff are first class you are able to order as many drinks as you want each time you go to the bar but be warned at the lobby and beach bar another drink is normally there waiting for you before you have finished the last one who could ask for more.

Final comment and overall recommendation. We're going back again next year. Try the Tropicana and I promise you will remember it for the outstanding & pleasant service above anything else. Enjoy.

" I have just got back from 2 week... "

I have just got back from 2 week holiday. This was probably too long for me as i got bored - but if you like to sit in the sun and do the same thing everyday it will be fine. You are confined to your hotel, but we went to Naama bay a few times, by taxi and by the free shuttle bus which is good.

Also went on a submarine - very good to see all the huge fish, but you can see these at the beach.

Apart from that it was a relaxing holiday and the resort is lovely. I had a room on my own - but had exactly the same size room as my parents - very clean, and good facilities. Mini fridge, TV, hairdryer, good air-con, balcony - mine walked out to the pool.

The evening were a tad boring due to the entertainment (Italians) but we started to go to dinner later and have a few drinks after, and if you want a little walk to walk dinner off, you can walk down to the beach bar.

All the staff are really friendly - tips are good. I didn't like it when one asked me for a tip on the last day - I probably would have until he asked. The only thing I didn't like too much is that the men are a little suggestive, but I suppose it is to be expected.

The Italian restaurant was very nice, that you have to book, and you can always find something that you like. Although I did end up eating a lot more rice, and fruit than i usually do - but my appetite wasn't there in that heat - and some days is was above 40 degrees. Dad got a dodgy tummy, but that was him I think - not drinking enough and eating the wrong things.

I think if we had to pay for our drinks each time we would have spent a fortune.

It was good value for literally £500 for 2 weeks.

The worse thing was the flight with Thomson's - very cramped for 5 and so hours. and the airport when we got there.

But can not fault the resort.

" I hated the place and everything was... "

I hated the place and everything was absolutely disappointing the only good thing was the size of the pool. I am never going there again.

When I was there I got food poisoning 5 times and never got to get out of bed except for the first day and the beach was horrible it was so rocky it was like climbing a mountain.

This is the most horrible hotel I have ever been to, even a 3 star is better and that hotel was a 3+ star. I warn you people never ever go there or you will face the same disappointment as me.

" My husband and I have just returned... "

My husband and I have just returned from a 14 night stay at the Tropicana Grand Oasis in Sharm El Sheikh. Although only graded as a 3 star it is easily a 4 and with a bit of a tidy up in the rooms in could be a 5. We traveled with another two couples and all six of us would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.

The staff were some of the most courteous we have met. Bar staff in particular were excellent, especially Mohammed, Mohammed Said, Ozi to name just a few. I had read on previous review to tip the odd £1 (10 Egyptian) which we did on our first night. From then on we had to actually stop them bringing drinks, they all remembered our order and the next one was on the table before the first was completely finished. Same with the beach bar, everyone just so friendly. This goes for all the Egyptians we met inside and outside of the hotel.

No problem with getting sun beds, if they weren’t together the towel man would soon arrange them so they were, again gave these the odd £1 here and there. Gave proper tips out at the end of the holiday to those we thought deserved, which was just about everyone.

Our room attendant was equally excellent, towels changed every day and was happy to get whatever we asked for.

The pool were great, the heated one was the more used and is where they do the games but although the other is not heated, the weather was so hot that we were glad to use that one and it never got crowded.

With the exception of breakfast the food was excellent with a vast choice, especially good was the pasta station. Unfortunately there was no egg station where you were supposed to get egg fried, scrambled, or omlettes etc, as due to bird flu the only eggs were hardboiled, therefore breakfast was limited to continental with a dubious sausage and various pastries. I stuck to toast and bought a jar of marmalade. Not too keen on the cereals. Although they did not seem to mind the birds that flew into the restaurant in the mornings and landed on the pastries, thought this strange bearing in mind their worries on the bird flu.

5 our of our group of 6 got Egyptian tummy but we took the necessary medication with us as we had been pre-warned so it was soon sorted. Water is given out by the bottle with no problem so it is easy to keep hydrated.

Snorkeling is simply fantastic, the fish are amazing and all via the jetty from the hotels private beach, no need to go anywhere else.

Unfortunately the only downside is the entertainment and as with other reviews I have to agree that this is geared toward the Italians, who I must say could take a few lessons from the Egyptians and of course the British in manners. Found it best to ignore them. They did have an English duo twice a week who were entertaining but when you have seen them once, three more times is a bit too much.

Although we went with Thomson, another guest recommend we book our tours outside the hotel with a firm call Cataract Tours, best move we made. They are in Naama Bay just behind the Hard Rock Café and we saved a fortune, for example with Thomson the quad biking was £25 each we paid £15 for two and the day trip by plane to Cairo was £108 each whereas with Thomson it was £175. Seeing the pyramids is a must and because we booked outside we had a guide for the six of us who was simply fantastic.

He arranged for us to go inside tombs that those on the Thomson tour never got to see and he also arranged a boat trip on the Nile which only cost £5 per couple. Also shopping was included in the price of the trip which was perfume, carpets etc., but we opted out of this so he took us back to a restaurant on the Nile where we had drinks until it was time to head back to the airport. The domestic flight from Sharm to Cairo is something else but worth doing as it is 6/7 hours by coach each way.

Only trip with Thomson we booked was the Dolphin swim. Here if I can recommend anything PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS SWIM. There are three dolphins who spend all there time in a pool less than half the size of the main one in the hotel. I have done the dolphin swim in Miami and dolphin encounter in Montego Bay and at both these locations these lovely mammals have so much room and freedom whereas in Sharm the really do not have much room at all.

We entered the pool and were allowed to handle the dolphins as we wanted, I have to say that they did seem to like interacting with humans but their backs were badly scratched which I think is from where they perform shows in such small surroundings. Apparently they have been raised there and could not be released back into the wild but they could be moved to more suitable conditions. I have pictures of the pool they live in and really anyone who has done this sort of thing before would be broken hearted to see them, so again if more people boycott this then perhaps something will be done.

All in all Egypt is definitely the place to go for guaranteed sun and relaxation, people are great and I would recommend this holiday to everyone.

" The only thing you could say bad... "

The only thing you could say bad about this complex is the food becomes a little repetitive but not bad enough that you will be hungry.

The staff and facilities are great. This is my 3rd trip to Egypt and I think I can possibly say that this is the resort for me. Far more friendly, clean, welcoming than Hurghada or Luxor people.

Pool and beach very clean and towels are provided. Sun loungers are available at pool and beach free of charge but if you want one at the pool you may want to get up early and reserve one before Russians and Italians (rude and arrogant people).

Will definitely return to this complex.

" After reading the reviews on here, I... "

After reading the reviews on here, I was quite worried but it was fantastic, definitely my favourite beach holiday of all time! I can't wait to go back.

We had absolutely no hassle at any time throughout our week there - many of the staff asked me out as I was traveling with my mum and no men but they took rejection well and were only joking about! The staff were great in all areas of the hotel, bending over backwards to please and always remembered our names, our favourite drinks, put nice little finishing touches to our room etc.

Admittedly, the white wine was gross, but everything else was perfectly drinkable and there was a good selection of cocktails. The food could be samey, as the buffet was essentially quite similar each night, despite the different themes, but it was a winning formula, delicious and varied. We didn't try any other food except the main restaurant and pool bar, but we didn't hear anything good about the Oriental, Fish and Italian restaurants from people who had tried them so were glad not to.

The purpose-built beach was very nice, you could always get a sun bed and the towels were provided there and at the pool. Snorkeling from the jetty was very good, and just sitting on the jetty you could see loads of different fish as the water was crystal clear.

I found the hotel and its grounds and gardens very impressive and extremely clean. The entertainment team were always up to something throughout the day and evening - aerobics, water polo, group snorkeling, and the animation shows at night. They were mostly Italian but keen to involve the English, although they didn't pressure anyone.

All in all, the only complaint we had throughout the whole week was the RUDENESS of the other guests - namely the Russians and Italians. It is no wonder that the staff love the English, these other nationalities showed absolutely no manners.
I would highly recommend this resort.

" Booked this hotel as a party of five... "

Booked this hotel as a party of five girls - my friends 40th.

The only thing I regret is only going for one week! I found everything fantastic.

Firstly, all the staff were brilliant and very, very accommodating.

The food was fabulous, I am not fussy but went with people who were, we did not have a problem finding something to suit. I particularly enjoyed the Egyptian night.

I would agree with other reviews that the white wine was particularly bad, however the beer, red wine, spirits and cocktails were more than palatable.

The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, air conditioning and heating if needed. Good facilities in bathroom.

No problem getting a sun-bed around the pool or on the beach. Towel token given to you on arrival, always available and clean.

Entertainment, I would agree with other reviews, was geared mainly for the Italians and Russians. This said we went most nights and had a good time, the entertainment staff were very friendly and encouraged us to join in.

I went to Naama Bay a couple of times via the complementary bus service, which takes you to the sister hotel 'tropicana rosetta'. Easier to book in the morning or day before to ensure the times you want to travel.

During my week I swam with dolphins and went quad biking in the desert, both I would highly recommend.

This has been a brilliant holiday, I have been home two days and already booked to go again in Feb 2007. I have no complaints whatsoever and have enjoyed every second.
