--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a recent visit to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt I thought I should share my thoughts on my accommodation. I travelled to Egypt by Thomson Fly from Glasgow airport on the 7th of July 2008 returning on the 14th of July. My holiday package was booked through First Choice on an all inclusive basis.

The following review is based on my opinion of Gran Tropicana Oasis - Sharm - Egypt
Grand Tropicana Oasis is approximately 10 minute drive from Sharm international airport, myself and my wife where met at the airport by the taxi company and taken the short drive to the hotel.

Arriving at Grand Oasis

First impressions - as the taxi turned in to the long drive way which lead us to the main gate I was amazed at how well kept the gardens where kept, here we were in the middle of what looked like a dessert and we had beautiful flowers and real pam trees. Stopping at the gate the taxi driver spoken to the gateman in Arabic before we could set our eyes on the hotel.

The outside of the building looking nothing short of outstanding, so well kept and not a piece of litter in sight, as we pulled up to the hotel a member of staff swiftly opened the door and welcomed us to the hotel. I then went to the rear of the vehicle to get my cases, only to be told by the rather helpful staff that he would carry them. In through the main entrance and with the reception in sight I sudden feel intimidated, to my disbelief there is an arm police officer ion the door. He has what looks like a pistol to me. I immediately felt very unhappy and wonder what the hell I am booking in too. *More to read about this soon
Forgetting about the armed guard

Looking around in the foyer this is definitely the hotel for me, with the huge seats and marble floor which you can see your face on. The place is so clean and there are many happy people wandering around.
Our suitcases are placed by the guard and we head over to the reception.

Reception staff and booking in

The reception is very traditional with wood effect fixtures and fitting, all signs are in Arabic and English. First member of staff I speak to ask me my name and then ask me to complete a few forms which taken less than 5 minutes, he taken a copy of both our passports and then gave me a key and 2 credit card style cards.
Reception staff spoke very little English but enough to get along, always very professional and helpful in my opinion.
Once give your room number you need to tell the "Bell man" what room and he will instruct staff to carry your cases to the room. We were escorted to the room and given a quick over few of the room.

The Room

Room number 1117 was to be our home for the next 7 days and I can tell you we were delighted with it, the rather bright and spacious room with a double bed, colour television (16 English channels), fridge with ice cold water already in it, air conditioning (free), hair dryer, bath and shower, safety key box, mini bar, direct dial telephone and not to forget the fantastic lighting which is standard in all rooms. Many places to tuck your clothes in to including the full fitted wardrobe with hangers.

Open the patio door and we had a small balcony area which was peaceful, two chairs, table and a light where also there for your use. From this room we had a walk our approximately 100ft to the pool and bar area. Sitting on the patio/balcony area you also got the sun and to be honest we loved every minute of that, however this could be a pain in the back side if you like a shaded area.
The patio door had fly screens which could be closed; it also had black out curtains in addition to the standard curtains. I truly believe that the hotel has considered all options when fitting out the room. In the evening when the patio was closed and the curtains where over you could hear nothing and you can expect to have a pitch dark room if you put all lights out.

If your anything like me I am very restless on the first night in a strange bed, but known that you're in a comfortable bed with crisp clean sheets always helps. There are additional pillows tuck away in the cupboard in case you require them and you could always call reception if you require more. The bed was very comfortable and the smell from it was that of freshness. To enjoy my sleep more me and the wife decided to leave the air conditioning on number one all night, this kept the room cool. Albeit there was a little noise but I would much prefer coolness.
Thought - There is nothing I could fault about the room, it was clean, spacious and bright. What more can I ask for.

Hotel Grounds

If you're like me then you will walk around the hotel grounds on the first day to see what there like, The grounds are the best kept I have seen for a long time, the staff work so well cutting and watering all the grass and plants all day long. The paths are easily marked and steps all have railings to offer additional assistance. The buildings are all maintained to a high standard and staffs are constantly make sure there kept to a high standard. Whilst walking around the extensive grounds there are many areas that you can take a seat in out of the baking sun.

The pool

An area that I spent most of my holiday, the hotel has three pools which are for your use. The main pool is 145cms in depth so for many users you can stand at all parts. The pool was spotless and the surrounding area was always been cleaned by the dedicated pool staff. Sun loungers are provided free of charge and are either made of wood or plastic. Now you may recall earlier I mentioned the credit card style cards, these give you free towels each and every day. I loved this part you simply walk over to the towel hut and hand in your card then a member of staff simply follow you too your preferred sun loungers and set them up, they will also provide you with a ashtray and a table too. One thing I loved about the pool side guidelines - Guests could not reserve sun beds until they were actually at the pool, if they did the pool staff just removed there towels and other guests could use them. Sun canopies and umbrella's were provided free of charge by the hotel and the pool staff where always asking if you wanted the put up or moved.

Other pools where of a decent size with one being designated to children at all times, the other pool which was still 145cms is also heated in the cooler months. Each pool has its own steps in to the pool and the larger pool of the three has steps which you can walk down directly in to the pool.
As I was there on an all inclusive basis I could take advantage of the pool bar which provided me with all my soft drinks, alcohol and water. The bar was staffed by professional and English speaking staff at all times. Drinks are provided in plastic cups for your own safety.
*One thing to remember is that the temperature in Egypt is often that hot it makes the ground so hot you can't walk on it in your bare feet. Remember your flip flops.

Beach

Being a guest at this hotel of gives you access to the private beach and more free sun loungers. The beach area is rather small and peaceful to say the least; the lovely gentle breeze from the red sea makes it ideal for you to catch the sun rays all day. A well equipped bar is on hand to provide you with the drinks you require. Once again you're able to collect fresh/clean towels down at the beach and when you're ready to stroll back up just hand in your towels. The red sea has some of the most amazing sites you will see. Know I am petrified of fish to snorkelling was out of the questions, but a simple walk along the beach and you will see some lovely fish in the water. The water is very warm and crystal clear.

On the jetty is where you can book any trips you want, whether it is a dive, snorkel, boat trip or even a trip in a submarine. These cost extra and are at very reasonable prices...... Ranging from £25-£95 depending on what you want to do.
Staff down at the beach are very helpful and always willing to move the sun loungers to allow you to sit in the shade.

Restaurants

Being an all inclusive guest we had so many options available to us, we were fortunate enough to try the majority of them.
*Main restaurant which is upstairs and has a lovely view over the foyer is open between 19.00hrs and 22.00hrs, serving good mixtures of foods and often with Chefs making foods fresh as you want them. Pizza was made each night as requested and you could stand and watch it, kebabs where also made to request and there was often a queue at the counter. Despite what many people say about the salads, they are lovely, a huge selection of salads which where all fresh and changed very often. There was not any occasion that I could not have anything to eat. For all us pudding lovers out there, you will be delighted to know there is a large selection of freshly made cakes, which has jelly and fruit to accompany them.

Buffet style restaurant, waiter service for all your drink requirements, smoking and non smoking seats are available. There were enough seats to seat approximately 400 people at any one time. Staff who worked in this restaurant where always very friendly and helpful.
*Italian restaurant must be booked at least 24hrs in advance at main reception, serving a varied selection of Italian food in the designated restaurant near to the pool. Not only do you get a table service by professional staff you also get a fantastic view of the pool at night. Service is relatively slow however whilst you wait you have the waiter staff providing you with drinks and if also gives you time to take in the fantastic sights. When your meal arrives you will not be disappointed, the portions are very large and they taste fantastic.

*If fish is your thing then you can try the fish restaurant down by the beach, a stroll down to the beach in the sunset is simply breathtaking. The sights are something out of this world. The red sea at night with the sun setting is just amazing. Being seated by the staff and then choosing from a very extensive range you're not stuck for choice here. I tried the grilled fish in an Egyptian sauce which was lovely the fish tasted so good. My wife tried the crab and shrimps and was very happy with the large plate she was given and the size of them was just astonishing to say the least.
*There was on an Egyptian restaurant on level 2 of the hotel which was always very busy with staff, we never tried this during our stay so I am unable to comment.

Breakfast and snacks

Breakfast is served in a buffet style at the main restaurant; on offer at each breakfast time was a large selection of breakfast cereal, breads, fresh omelettes, fruits, fresh pancakes, and not to forget the traditional porridge. Fresh orange juice, tea and coffee are also available at this time on a self-service basis. Breakfast is served between 0700hrs and 1000hrs daily and from our experience it can be very busy between 0800hrs and 0900hrs.
Snacks are provided at the pool dolphin restaurant daily from 1100hrs until 1700hrs - usually just rolls, hamburgers, onions, sausages and potatoes.

Entertainment

This is what the hotel lacks in my opinion, during the day you can expect the animators to put on some sort of games, usually darts, water polo and then a club dance. At 2145hrs each night the pool area turns in to a show arena and the the rep's put on a show varying from a comedy show to a general singsong. As the reps are from all over the work other than the UK it can be very difficult to understand them at times. Now before the show each night if you're lucky enough to be up in the main bar then you will have the torture of the local singer, unfortunately the young girl can't sing a note and it's a big NO from me. Once the reps finish their show at 22.30hrs approximately there is nothing on.

Activities

If you're feeling energetic then you can have a try at tennis on the fool size tennis court, this does cost extra (£2) and you have 60mins per game. Now if you're a fitness fanatic then you will be happy in the full size gym on site which will cost you £6 per session which is approximately 2hrs.

Sauna for anyone? Yeah the hotel has sauna on site which is fantastic, it will cost you £2 per session and you feel so much better after it.

First choice rep and other staff

A dedicated desk set within the main foyer is where you will find all the information from your first choice rep; the rep was very helpful and was there daily apart from a Wednesday. I questioned the rep top why we had an armed police man on the door, she advised it was merely a deterrent and he has yet to use his gun. She went on to advise that from the previous attacks in Egypt all hotels have taken this options and now have armed staff on door. A 24hr line is also available should you require any assistance from First Choice staff.
Bar staff - These guys just work so hard and for so many hours each day, we became very friendly with one particular member of the staff who was always very helpful and professional, he told us what drinks to try and what to avoid. As we tipped him the service got even better. Just as we walked in to the bar he was making towards us with drinks.
Shops - there are 6 shops within the main foyer which sell a mixture of photography equipment, local jewellery, gifts and a shop very similar to your local newsagent. All the staff are chancer's and you need to haggle for everything. If they ask for 100le which is £10 you offer then 50le.... They expect you to haggle and will not be offended. Just stick to your guns and I bet you get a good bargain. If you do not want to buy the item just say no thanks and leave they will not be offended.

Photography staff - during your stay here you will come across the guys trying to allow them to take your picture so you can buy in later the next day, if you do decide to have it done, agree a price first and stick to it. These guys are very nice but can be a little pushy.
Massage - Lying at the pool side you will hear "hello where you from?" that's there opening line, then they attempt to sell you a massage a simple no works wonders. Prices range from £11-£40. Please keep in mind your massage is done by a male near to the pool edge in full view of all guests.

Henna Tattoos - There on offer for £10 around the pool, I found these staff irritating and often felt I was having to raise my voice to tell them to move on.
Newspaper boy - a nice pleasant young lad who walks around the pool selling papers, very helpful but never has change.... That old chestnut.

Checking out

Check out is midday and it can be a little manic at main reception as many guests check out on the same day. When you check out you may be required to pay any outstanding bills such as telephone calls, I had to pay 4le which was 40p in English money, as I never had any change I was able to pay the 40p in English money. Your suitcase is placed by the door staff and you're free to continue to use the facilities until you leave.

Anything Else

Egypt is a very warm country and during our week there temperature averaged 104f which is 40C - so remember and drink plenty fluids. If you're all inclusive you can get unlimited water at the pool bar and you can request as many bottles of water from the main bar 24hrs a day. It's also pleasant and nice to tip the staff for their services, they do not ask for it but 20le a night is only £2 and you will see how much the service improves. Remember and haggle for anything you buy out of the shops unless it has a price on it. The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to Naama bay which runs 6 times a day, you need to book it 24hrs in advance at reception.

Final Thoughts

This was my first visit to Egypt and certainly my first visit to Tropicana Grand Oasis, I can certainly say I would recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing lazy holiday. I would say it's not the best place for kids as there is not a lot for them to do and to be honest it's a little too hot. All the staff where very professional at all times and nothing was too much hassle for them. The shops within the hotel where ok but there are far more in Naama Bay. The free bus ride to the bay can be scary as they all drive without lights on.. Don't ask!!! They just go about sounding there horn. A perfect holiday for a relaxing couple, just remember ladies no topless sunbathing, at meals times ladies the more you wear the more respect you get and gents you need to wear trousers or at least three quarter lengths.

Comments:  This was our first trip to the resort of Sharm El Sheikh. Upon arrival to the hotel you are greeted by an impressive reception area dominated by a huge chandelier and stain glass dome roof.
We had a fantastic room with a sea view, that was cleaned every day.
The facilities of the hotel were very good. There are three restaurants that are part of the all inclusive package, you just need to book at 10am in the morning for the evening you wish to eat at one of them. The main restaurant itself serves all kind of food that seems to be in keeping with the all inclusive theme. Dont expect fine cuisine, however after a few days you tend to know what to eat and what to avoid.
The service at the hotel is second to none. The hospitality is a credit to the hotel and the bar staff will go out of their way to help you. Service for drinks however is very slow in the main restaurant at lunch time.

The biggest let down of the stay at Tropicana was the entertainment. The animation team organise the entertainment and it is incredibly amature. There seems to be very little organisation and many shows they do, cater for the Russian guests. During the day there are lots of activities to do and the animation team clearly work hard. However the music played in the afternoon is very loud and tends to ruin the ambiance of the relaxing atmosphere.

The beach area is fantastic for snorkelling and is a must due to literally having some amazing coral on your doorstep.
There is a shuttle bus that runs into Naama Bay although a taxi is only about £4 each way.
If you have the oportunity to partake in any activities I recommend a boat trip where you can either snorkel or dive. You definitely get your monies worth as once again the service and hospitality is fantastic.
Overall the holiday was very enjoyable. The weather was around 40 degrees in the daytime and around 35 at night. It takes a few days to get used to the heat but if it's not your thing I would definitely recommend going to Sharm before May or after October. I would recommend the hotel to other people due to the fact that it was great value for money and there is so much to see and do whilst staying there.

Comments:  I visited this hotel in May 2008.
Most of all was OK, the sea was great.
But: I was reading reviews on this site and everybody say that we, Russians (i'm Russian) are rude & arrogand and Ilalins are loud.
OK! I often travel all around the world and I can say that English people (teens and young people especially) are drinking alkohol and screaming even more than Russians.
Actually, when i'm going somewhere i ask my travel agent to choose a hotel without russians. I agree that lots of us are unpolite and rude sometimes, but it's sooo disappointing for me to read this kind of reviews! Don't forget that Brits are not an ideal of conduct and Germans are smoking so much that if you wanna normaly breath you should find a place in 500ft from them...

Comments:  This is our 2nd Vist (1 week) to this Hotel. Last vist June 2005 (2 weeks). Hotel hasnt changed much still lots of Italians and Russians. But this is at most Hotels in egypt we were told.
The hotel is clean and staff are helpful. Food is ok. I preferred Lunch. My Husband perferred Breakfast. Dinner a bit disappointing. We didnt have a bad stomach either. Just be careful on what you eat and drink and Dont over do sunbathing. Evening Entertainment is poor aimed at italians. You can go to Nama Bay by taxi (£10-13) Return. There is plenty to do for young and old.
Snorkelling at hotel really good. But you need to be on the beach really early as the russians/Italians are there at 7am taking beds which are nearest the sea/Jetty .
We ended on the top tier most days and we got there no later than 9.30. If you have walking difficulties this is not a hotel to go to. Down hill to beach area. and a hard walk back it was around 39c.
We didnt do any trips as we done these the time before.
Nice just to chill out.
We Have been to Taba twice and we perfer there.

Comments:  Our second visit to this hotel in the last 2 years. The hotel is superb in that it is kept spotless and staff are constantly cleaning and painting. The staff, and all people we came into contact with, are always friendly and helpful. The pool area is huge, and always plenty of beds. The staff seem to favour the British and the Germans, because they tell us we are always polite and friendly, and the Russians are arrogant and Italians loud and rude. A good example of this was going to the pool area one day and finding towels on every bed. But the pool staff do this to keep beds for the people they favour, like Brits, and keep the Russians away. Having said all that, we still were not all that fussed on the choice of food, not really to our taste, and we were not impressed by the fact that birds fly in and out of the restaurant as they like and perch on the food. I am sure something could be done to prevent this. But the biggest downer of all, was the very loud music ( if you can call it music ) around the pool and beach areas. It was far too loud, and the man playing only seemed to have 1 CD made up of kids songs and dance and rap stuff. You would be lying by the pool enjoying the peace and quiet, the BANG. Up comes the noise at full volume, and if you sit anywhere near the speakers, you teeth vibrate. No need to have it that loud, especially when people are eating by the pool at night.
Having said that, the holiday overall was excellent

Comments:  Probably not the best hotel I've stayed in. Would I recommend it..? No. If you like sitting around a very large swimming pool and snorkelling then this is for you. On arrival it looks impressive and the staff are very friendly (albiet a bit too annoying around the swimming pool trying to sell you massage's), please Tropicana management reduce or stop this. It's true, not a British hotel, but it's good to meet other nationalities, this is Egypt and not Little-Britain.

One major problem and worth considering before booking, there is no evening entertainment. Well that's not not entirely true, there are some but certainly not worth seeing. You have three choices, sit in the reception area where there is a bar (poor), go to Naarm Bay (you will get hassled but Hard Rock Cafe very good) or stay in your room, not really three great options.

We did try the main resturant and it was sub-standard. I would strongly recommend the English Resturant, although not English food but the service is much higher. The scuba-diving is fanstastic and really the only reason why I would return. Please be sensible, do not eat cold or warm food or drink the tap water. The water is yellow, so a bath is out of the question. We met other holiday-makers, also in their 20's and the girls did feel uncomfortable and the hassle you receive in Naarm Bay is a real problem. If you are young and blond, just say no firmly, do not look at them and do not stop to talk. Sounds drastic and not what you expect from a holiday, but you are in an Arab country and as long as you abide to these words of wisdom you will have an enjoyable holiday.

Comments:  Please do not book this hotel, worst we have seen for some time, we asked to be relocated within a couple of hours of arriving. Food was cold, the dining room was like a works canteen and up loads of stairs, definitely a no go area if you have walking problems. Went to have a shower and the water was deep brown even after letting it run for 10 minutes. The hotel was also under the flight path and really smelt of engine fuel, to say its a three star plus, we were really disappointed.

Comments:  The rooms, food and hotel and pool staff were excellent. The location to the airport was too close you might as well have been on the runway. The smell of aviation fuel is at its height at night when it becomes sometimes unbearable.

The whole place was filled with Russians the most greedy and arrogant people. The amount of food they waste would feed a small country. The Russians can have it I'm off to the Caribbean.

Comments:  It was my first time to Egypt and didn’t know really what to expect, Landed and got into the airport, the cab drivers go wild and start fighting for your custom. We got into the oldest dodgiest car you have ever seen, they drive like nutters, and there is litter all along the desert, which spoiled it I thought.

Got to the hotel by the skin of our teeth, and at first it looked great, huge reception area, very clean and tidy, shops and the bar.

On the down side we were offered a massage, by an Egyptian lady by the pool, so my girlfriend and her sister and there mum and Gran went, afterwards we met up and she said the man giving her a massage tried it on by rubbing to close to her groin area, to which I was furious, we told the manager and was assured he would be dealt with, but what a nightmare. Warning do not get the massage!!!!

I would go somewhere else next time, as the food was very poor, I couldn’t eat it and felt sick when I got back.

We had a good time around the pool though, there was always a bed available, and the beach is 2 mins down the hill.

The snorkelling was great, the fish there are fantastic, and it’s like swimming in a huge fish tank.

Comments:  Fantastic hotel, very clean and well looked after. Staff were very helpful, couldn't do enough for you. Pool area was spacious, lots of sun beds, always clean.

The beach was lovely, great snorkelling. The rooms were large with big bathrooms, kept clean and tidy every day. Facilities were also very good. Free shuttle bus to Naama Bay was very handy and went 5 or 6 times throughout the day.

The only downside to us was the food. The buffet was alright, not a huge amount of choice and not always particularly well cooked food. We never had a bad meal there but neither did we have a really good meal.

We tried the Italian restaurant once, it was awful! The only other thing was the location; to see or do anything more you had to go to Naama Bay.

Overall, we would definitely recommend the hotel - we had a fantastic fortnight there. We would also go back to Sharm el Sheikh but probably stay in a hotel nearer to Naama Bay.

Comments:  We have just returned from a one week stay / cruise holiday which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Staff are first class at this hotel and could not do enough to help you. If you prefer excellent service and are on AI at no extra cost you must book up to go to the either the Fish , Oriental or the Italian restaurants.

All drinks are included, you do not get huge portions but the atmosphere, food, service is first class. Also attend the special Thomson Gala Buffet which is held in the Beach Restaurant which was also excellent. Hotel rooms are spacious and very clean, as is the hotel public areas and the well kept gardens.

The snorkeling from the hotel pontoon is great, I swam with about 25 different species of beautiful coloured fish, it was like swimming in a tropical fish aquarium fantastic!

There are some supermarkets and shops which are about 15-mins walk away were you can buy amongst other things good quality cheap snorkeling equipment.

The only down side was the evening entertainment which was aimed at the Russian, Italian guests however it is that bad it is really funny. There are free shuttle buses to Naama Bay which is about 20 mins. away or a taxi is approx £5.00 agree fare before going, a trip on Glass Bottomed boat costs £4.50 plus a drink for about 1.5 hours this again was great! Old Sharm is well worth a visit for a real feel of traditional Egypt this takes about 35 mins in taxi.

All in all an exceptional holiday hotel.

Comments:  Excellent hotel. Staff helpful. Plenty of good food and drink. Corals and snorkelling was excellent.

Been to Sharm twice this year and have not had any problems with the airport and collecting baggage. Everyone at the airport is friendly and helpful.

There is no need to tip either in the airport or the hotel. Although we did at the end.

I would say this was one of the best holidays I have had and have no hesitation of going again.

Comments:  What can I say? This hotel has everything you could possibly ask for, private beach, massive pools, friendly staff, lovely surroundings, the only thing I would say is the Russians and Italians need some lessons in politeness!

I was impressed with how clean the place was and how friendly the staff were. I honestly wish I could have stayed two weeks here. I would recommend Sharm and the Tropicana Grand Oasis to anyone. The snorkeling from the hotel beach is a must, its just like another world.

The only thing I found was that the entertainment is aimed at the Italians, but that didn’t matter to me as Naama bay is a short taxi drive away and worth a visit-amazing is the only way to describe the place.

This place was fantastic, I will be returning!

Comments:  We have just returned from our second visit to this hotel, we visited it in August 2005 and loved it so much couldn't wait to return.

Hotel: The hotel is spotless! And very pleasant throughout. The pool is cleaned every day as are the surrounding areas. The pool attendants are very polite and can not do enough for the guests (even without tips).

Rooms: Air Con works well (A Must!) Cleaned every day and more than adequate facilities within the room.

Food:
The main restaurant offers a very good selection of food for everyone in the mornings there are cereals, every type of egg including omlettes, breads, toast, meats and pastries as well as sausages, toms etc. Lunch there is a kids corner, salads, sandwich corner, pasta corner as well as desserts and buffet of chicken, chips etc. The choice of 3 restaurants Italian/Seafood/Oriental means you always have an option and are will always find something you like.

Staff:
If only the rest of the Hotels in the world could bring their people here for Staff training. Outstanding! Of particular note, Sammy, An absolute star! And now a firm friend...

Entertainment:
Bearing in mind that this hotels caters for Multiple Nationalities, the entertainment is adequate, although does have an Italian bias. If you want good English entertainment. Go to Butlins!

Beach:
None as such, but the Jetty gives access to snorkeling and diving that can only be compared to diving into an aquarium!

Bars: All the bar staff are first class you are able to order as many drinks as you want each time you go to the bar but be warned at the lobby and beach bar another drink is normally there waiting for you before you have finished the last one who could ask for more.

Final comment and overall recommendation. We're going back again next year. Try the Tropicana and I promise you will remember it for the outstanding & pleasant service above anything else. Enjoy.

Comments:  I chose this based upon the fact it had 3 restaurants as well and the main one.

The airport is fine we go through quick, the toilets are shocking they don't flush and have no loo paper and my partner said there was a man in males asking for money.

Got to the coach for transfer and a guy was lift bags from the floor to coach and had hand out asking for money.

Short transfer to hotel which has a grand entrance and high security and quick efficient check in.

We checked in and were told our bags would be taken to our room, we managed to get lost so a member of staff took us to the room but again wouldn’t leave until he was tipped, the bell boy who dropped off bags also stood until he got his £1 tip so be prepared take a bag of English pound coins.

The rooms were a bit dated but clean and we were right near the pool which proved to be a god send as there in no toilets around the pool area.

Some of the rooms by the beach are quiet a walk to the pool and restaurant, especially in the heat.

I found the food really bland, the same stuff almost served every night I know people have said they liked it but we seemed to live on bread and pasta.

Visited the Italian which was by the way a few seats outside this is ok but very small portions and they really rush you. The oriental was nice we got Kebabs and they were served on a mini BBQ on the table and the staff were great, that was nicest meal we have in hotel.

There is food put outside (dolphin bar) all day we ate from there and we were ill had runs and stomach pains this continued most the holiday so we were put off the food because of this. Went through 3 packets of Imodium so stock up. This is why a room next to the pool was great as the nearest loo was upstairs in hotel and when you got to go, you got to go.

The beach is a man made but is pretty again the toilets are quiet a walk from the beach and the beach bar. We also seen a rat down there at night time!!

Night time a lot of English people tend to go to the beach bar as it’s the only place the Italian animation team weren’t about.

Speaking of them, they were so loud they played the same game same time to same music every day, around 3pm just when it all goes quiet and people start napping along they come and blast the music and shout at each other down the microphone, they were so annoying. Even in the restaurant they were shouting across the room at each other.

The drink was foul the red wine and lager were OK for a day or so but I struggled to drink much as it was awful, the vodka burnt my throat although they did do a nice cocktail called casino. I did have to try man and they don't mind if you leave the ones you don't like.

Went to the welcome meeting with Thomsons reps they stuck us in a boiling hot room and went on and on about the trips for an hou,r and seemed to have very little local knowledge.

Went on the quad biking trip this was fab well worth the £25 we were out from 4.30 till 8pm take some long trousers and a back pack or bum bag and an old top and sunglasses. You get covered in dust and buying the head scarf is a must, even though you do look silly.

They take you through the dessert you whizz passed the camels then you go to a little hut and have drinks. It was fab the best part of the holiday.

The hotel runs free bus to Naama bay so we visited in need of some decent food really, went to Hard Rock cafe this was great the staff danced to YMCA and other songs every hour which was funny to watch. Food was dead cheap massive portions and the cocktails were fantastic.

There was loads of shop but we didn’t really have time to look. There's taxi drivers hanging about everywhere asking if you need a taxi and be warned they don't drive with their head lights on at night and only flash to let you know they’re there not to let you across the road as I learnt!

All in all had good time was relaxing but I think the runs and dickey tummy spoilt it there's nothing to do on a night time in the hotel so go a bit board. Had I paid more than £340 for a week I wouldn’t have been best pleased.

Or and on your last day they take your all inclusive off you at 12 so if like us you don’t leave hotel until 3pm you have to starve and have no towel.
