Chances are you are panicking about staying at this hotel after reading the reviews on this website. All I can say is these people who are moaning must never have been on holiday before !

I read the reviews over and over again and I was worrying over nothing. This was the best holiday I have ever had. The staff are really friendly and the hotel very clean. We never went hungry and even if you are picky like me you will find something you love. Breakfast is the best meal of the day with lots of pastries, cereals, breads and even cooked breakfasts. This is all served in the main restaurant but if you wish to dine in any of the al la carte restaurants you have to book in advance. The lady that takes the bookings is only there for about two hours a day so you should book as many restaurants as you can in one go (I think you can do up to three days in advance) When the main restaurant is closed there is fish , chips and pizza served outside near the pool. I didn't drink any of their cocktails but their lager Stella is gorgeous and really ice cold.

There is no bureau de change in the hotel, so you will need to walk to the hotel next door for your currency or go to the HSBC in Naama Bay. I would advise to get a taxi (about £4.00) rather then take the hotel's free shuttle service. The bus drops you off their sister hotel and although the walk is not too far, it feels far in that heat. Be careful walking through the streets of Naama Bay as you will be pestered by the locals to go into their shop. You will feel rude at first but you have to ignore them or end up being locked in their shop with their whole family, you will be freed when you pay about £10.00 for a small painting!

All three trips we went on were fab. We flew to Luxor for the day and visited Valley of the Kings. We also flew to Cairo and visited the pyramids and the Sphinx. Both trips were unbelievable. I would recommend lots of sun cream, a hat or scarf (especially in Luxor), and also a toilet roll! (the toilet tissue is given to you in rations by young girls that work in the public toilets, so if you have mummy tummy you will be glad you took your own! The third trip we went on was Stars and Desert. We had a cup of tea with the local (bedouin) people and then we had a BBQ tea in the derset where we smoked pipes and then had an astrologer explain the stars.

It is true what most reviews have said about finding a sunbed at the pool although the beach towel men will try their best to find you a spot. If we found it too busy then we went on a sunbed on the beach. Although it's not a sandy beach like I am used to it was still really nice.

The hotel's entertainment are the Animation Team. Despite what the other reviews say, they do speak English, probably more then any other language. This is sooo bad it cannot be missed. Please watch them even if its just the once.

We’ve just come back from a week’s holiday at the Tropicana Grand Oasis. I had read all the reviews before going, and was confused about what to expect. We chose the Grand Oasis (there are three Tropicana hotels in Sharm) because we wanted to snorkel, and other reviews had indicated a good coral reef.

The hotel is basically an Italian style resort hotel, down to fixtures and fittings, with large areas of marble and some wooden detailing. It has an on-site Italian tour operator, and most of the entertainment (provided by the ‘Animation’ team) is in Italian, interspersed with “Come aan British friendsa…”. Why, because Sharm is only a 2-3 hour flight from Italy, and probably viewed by Italians as Spain or the South of France is by us Brits. Overall this is a good thing, as the standards are quite high, and almost all the other guests were courteous and reasonable. You are issued with a coloured wristband on arrival, which indicates your nationality. Pink for Brits, Orange for Italians, and some other colours for other nationalities. We reckoned that 45% of the guests were Italian, 35% British and the rest French, German, Russian, etc. There was a mix of couple (late-20s upwards) and families with young children.

If like me you have been to the Nile region of Egypt, Sharm is completely different. There is very little evidence of ethnic life (as it has been created in the middle of nowhere). All the hotel staff are from Cairo. Sharm is a modern oasis of resort hotels along the coast. You won’t get hassled by beggars outside your hotel, for example, at least not at the Grand Oasis.

FOOD: The hotel food has come in for mixed reviews. We thought it was good, and certainly better than a lot of food you might get in a “tourist restaurant” in Britain. There is a very wide choice of styles, and again unlike the Nile region most of it was very familiar to us and tasted how it you expected it would from the way it looked. The food is served in the main restaurant as a buffet (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner), and there are probably around 30 types of dish ranging from Chips through to carved joints of meat to a vegetarian selection. The food is all shipped in to Sharm, and so the beef is catering quality rather than steak-like for example, but we found very little that we could not eat. There is an egg station at Breakfast where you can get eggs cooked to order, an Italian station for Lunch and Dinner where you can get a choice of pasta and sauces. I think everyone was on an all-inclusive package, as we never saw anyone signing/paying for anything apart from one or two items that were clearly identified as not been part of the AI package. These included ice cream, filter coffee, and global brands of spirits. All the AI drinks are produced locally, and we spent most of our time drinking bottled water, “Fanta” (a unusually orange-coloured fizzy drink) and beer. We tried the wine, but it wasn’t that nice. The head chefs appear to be trained in Europe, and the restaurant manager was very good. Our waiters (in white) and bus-boys (in orange) were all excellent. There are other restaurants (Oriental and Seafood) down by the beach, but we didn’t try these. Despite what we had read, we and no-one else we spoke to had any kind of food poisoning. The standards of hygiene and food-handling were very high, and I suspect that people who have succumbed to food poisoning were either very unlucky or more likely had eaten outside the hotel or had not been drinking enough water

ACCOMODATION: The hotels has rooms from 1100 up to 1900 I think, with 1100s, 1200s and 1300s the lower, ground and upper floors of the main building with the central buffet restaurant, and the higher number rooms in additional buildings off each side of the main one, running down to the sea. We were in a room in the 1300 range, ideally located for the main restaurant. For two adults and a child our room had two twin-beds, and a smaller child’s bed. The air-con worked well (a proper in-room system, not something bolted onto a side wall), and the room and en-suite bathroom were attractive and clean. The mattresses were not as thick as ours at home, but I have stayed in smaller hotels and B&Bs in Britain with those of similar quality and comfort. There was a hair-dryer and a fridge. We had a nice balcony with a view over the pool down to the sea.

POOL. The Pool was great, and ideal for small children. It was cleaned daily, and the water quality seemed better than many indoor pools at home. There is a pool-side bar (not swim-up), and while we were there sufficient deck-chairs for everyone. You are issued with a deck-chair card per person on arrival, which you exchange for a deck-chair towel either at the pool or beach. The towel attendants will find chairs for you, lay the towels on them and move/adjust them as required. You are not allowed to ‘reserve’ a deck chair, although can go away for a reasonable time period for meals etc. If however you grabbed some desk-chairs first thing and then went out all day, the pool attendants would probably have given these to someone else on your return. What is not so good is the animation team and their music. They have an all-day program from 1000 to 1800, with water aerobics, water polo, etc all accompanied by loud music, with all the commentary/DJing in Italian. If this sort of thing doesn’t appeal to you, you should use deck-chairs close to the restaurant which is furthest away from the speakers. By the end of our week, we had accepted this as a necessary evil, although it can come as a disappointment to start with. There is also entertainment by the animation team each evening on a stage at the end of the pool, which varied from useless to quite good (the ‘Fakir’ show and the skirt-dancer/man on stilts show). We only saw one drunk person while we were there and that sadly was an English man who had clearly had far too many/couldn’t hold his drink.

BEACH. As Shark’s Bay (where the hotel is located) is essentially a rocky bay, all the hotels have created artificial beach/sun-terraces down by the water. If however you like snorkelling or diving this is perfect, as it means there isn’t any sand in the sea itself to restrict visibility. An additional bonus is that while there is a beach bar, their music is very low in comparison to the pool, and you can just lie in the sun or under one of the large wooden beach umbrella canopies and relax. The house reef itself is in good condition, and much better than some of the other resorts further up sharks bay (we know as we snorkelled the whole bay). The coral is as good as unspoiled resorts in the Maldives, and there is a wide array of tropical fish. There are a few dangerous ones, such as Lion fish and Stingrays. We sadly didn’t see a shark once. There are signs asking you not to tread on the coral, but as usual there were a number of people who didn’t understand this and were walking on (and killing) the coral. There are excursions to other areas for snorkelling, but we didn’t take these as they seemed expense (a rip-off really) for the additional value (if any) you would gain from another reef – it’s all the same part of the red-sea. The Beach is a five-minute walk from the main hotel building, past all the higher-number rooms, but nothing that a small child couldn’t cope with.

DOWNTOWN NAAMA BAY. We went there twice in the evening. The first time in evening wear, and the second time in shorts and t-shirts, as it was much hotter than outside the hotel. It’s very commercialised, with a hard-rock café, a KFC, etc, as well as a range of shops selling all the usual stuff from carpets trough the perfume essences. There are a large number of restaurants, but we didn’t try them, partly down to concerns about food-hygiene and also because we were on an AI package. There is an old-market area tucked away behind the main strip, and this was one of the more interesting places to browse through. Expect to barter for everything.

TAXIS. Knowing that Taxis always try to rip you off, I tried to get hold of pricing info before we went to Sharm but found it difficult. There are official rates posted in Naama Bay. A taxi from the centre to the Grand Oasis should cost 35 LE (Egyptian pounds). We added 5 L.E as a tip. If you get a taxi at the Grand Oasis, we were ripped off by one of the ‘official’ taxi people waiting just outside the main entrance, who charged us 100 L.E for a return trip to Naama Bay. As it was, we agreed to pay on our return, and as the taxi didn’t come to pick us up we ended up paying nothing. They do charge Taxis a tax to enter the airport, and so although the distance from the airport to the Grand Oasis is only a few miles, you need to pay 50 L.E. Don’t pay any more than this. Taxis drivers will use every trick in the book to get you to pay extra, from claiming not to have change for your high-denomination notes to giving prices in UK pounds then Egyptian pounds and trying to confuse you. Agree the price in a stated currency in advance before you get in and you should be OK.

FLIGHTS. We flew out was Astraeus, which proved to be very comfortable. The legroom and seat pitch was significantly better than other charter airlines, and as a frequent business flyer I found it comparable to a premium-economy class cabin. I had not come across Astraeus before, but would recommend them. Sharm Airport is OK, with a reasonable selection of shops on the way out.

I hope this helps you to make up your mind about the Tropicana Grand Oasis, and Sharm in general. We had a very relaxing one week holiday for around £500 per person all in, and came back sun-tanned and feeling refreshed.

I looked at the reviews of this hotel before I went on holiday so was slightly worried about what I was going to find. All I can say is that the people who experienced a horrible holiday must have been somewhere else I had a fantastic time!!! The hotel and rooms are immaculate and kept very clean, our towels and bedding were changed every day and the staff from the cleaners to the managers were all very welcoming and friendly.

What people don’t seem to understand is that they are visiting a very different country to the normal holiday destinations, I am lucky as I have lived in the Middle East and know just what to expect. We ate at the hotel - excellent food, large selection AND hot (the burners were more than adequate, just remember that you are in an air conditioned environment which means food will get cold quickly) and we ate in Naama Bay and the Old Town. Yes we both experienced stomach problems as did others but it’s not actually the food preparation, which causes this, but mainly the heat and the need to drink far more water than you are used to. My advice would be to take plenty of medication for this although the pharmacies are superb and drink LOTS of bottled water. Your system gets used to the different conditions in a couple of days.

Going back to the hotel, the entertainments team were Italian as when we were there the main contingent of holiday makers was Italian (Sharms development has been mainly due to the Italian and British) but they were very friendly to all holiday makers there.

The pool was clean as were the sunbeds and towels and the beach was lovely - getting into the sea via the floating pontoon was a challenge though but all part of the fun.

The only thing I would say is that the hotel is on several levels and there are slopes and steps to contend with if you are less mobile but at least you don’t have to carry your luggage to and from your rooms when you arrive and depart as there is a bell boy service laid on for you.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and we are going to go back next year to visit the friends we made and make some new ones!

All I can say to explain this holiday properly is WOW.

From the moment we arrived till the time it came to leave I was very impressed.

The weather was great, people were fantastic and it is very cheap. There is plenty to do, especially around "Naama Bay" (best visited at night). I would highly recommend the quad bikes, which only cost £20 for near a whole day of fun, but don’t forget to haggle!!!!!

The diving and snorkelling is a must, especially at "Ras Mohamed" and "Tiran", you can get a boat trip to both of these locations for as little as £25, which includes a gorgeous lunch and unlimited amounts of drink (non alcoholic).

The food there was fine, I was trying everything and didn’t have a problem, and there was a wide selection so you will never get bored. "Naama Bay" has got a KFC and Mcdonalds, which are very nice and serve really nice food, they also deliver to your hotel for a small fee!!!!!!

All in all it was an amazing experience, which I would do again and again, so forget all the professional moaners on here and go and enjoy yourselves.

Husband, my daughter and myself who’s 5 have just returned from the Tropicana, after reading some reviews I was concerned at what we were arriving to. What a load of rubbish we had a brilliant time I would definitely recommend this hotel.

FOOD. All I can say is there is some thing for everyone you won’t starve, (the cheese is just like home) We enjoyed the Italian and the oriental didn’t try the seafood as were not fish lovers

ROOMS. Very spacious and clean we had one overlooking the pool it was lovely

POOL. From the first morning we tipped the pool guys $1 every morning and without fail we had beds and parasols no problem

The beer was flowing we had no problem getting a drink

The only down side was there was no toilets around the pool area and it was a pain going to the main building.

My daughter went to the Kids club every morning and she loved it and the Kid’s disco .

VISA. If you are not going out of Sharm (Sinai ) you DO NOT need a visa (£15 pp) we just said Sinai only and it cost us nothing.

FAGS. Shop around cost £1 a pack for L&M in hotel £3.50 for 200 at duty free shop (take your passport) and from £5-£8 for 200 in the supermarkets.

TOP TIP. We bought P20 sun lotion from the airport cost £32 for 2 bottles . sounds expensive but you apply 90mins before you go out and that’s it, no need to top up my daughter is very fair and she never burnt once.

You’ll have a great holiday we met load of British people every one was very friendly and hotel is so clean and very impressive you’ll love it.

Just got back from 2 week at this fantastic hotel!

Had read review about this hotel, which I just can’t believe that these people went to the same place!!!!!

Ok the food wasn’t the best I've ever had but I managed to have a very good meal every night! The staff are great always willing to help, the bars were not -as some seem to think- tight with the drink, every night we went to the bar we were never without a drink!! The pool is great, the beach isn’t great but the sea makes up for it.

The hotel isn’t great for little kids but they do have a kids club! And the entertainment in the evening is exactly my cup of tea but in the day there is no end of activities you can do, my girlfriend and me were never bored!!!

I have to admit some people did suffer from Egyptian belly, but I was fine so was my girlfriend, as were most people. I would definitely go back to Sharm and to the grand oasis, this was the best holiday I have ever been on!

Hope you enjoy it as much as me!!

I had a superb holiday at this hotel, I have been on many AI holidays and this was a reasonable standard for a bronze rated AI.

Buffet food, their was a good selection and always something to eat. The other restaurants were not brilliant but well worth going to for a change of scenery. Rooms were very clean the hotel was lovely lots of steps though.

The staff are so friendly and well deserved good tips! The beach was fantastic for snorkelling in and the beach bar staff were great, tip Carlo the first night and you will never have to que for a drink again! The pool was nice and clean, I never had a problem with finding sun beds even later in the day but parasols went quickly.

Naama bay very hectic, you get pestered alot and the food is dodgy, ate out 1 night, big mistake. If you get a bad belly this will be why. However I was party of 5 who ate every thing and plenty of it and not one of us got ill. I highly recommend this hotel it is good value for money and some people are never happy and expect all for nothing, I suggest if you want the Ritz then you need to extend you budget, you get what you pay for, and this hotel meets everything you need for an AI for the price you pay.

The only thing I would fault is the entertainment is Italian and not great for British kids. However I am going again next year.

After reading the reviews, I was very worried but this hotel is very good for the price we paid, rooms cleaned every day; they nearly got more staff than clients.

Ok food as expected i.e. bland, drinks just about drinkable, never enough knives & forks, birds on food, but great McDonalds in town. The people make you feel welcome, always happy, nothing to much trouble, great with kids. There was never a problem with sunbeds at the pool or the beach. The swimming off the jetty was great. Hardly ever went to pool, as sea was so good.

This hotel is a very good standard and will be going back, the only down side was the food, but town only 10 mins away. Oh the taxies are mad .as all drivers are in Egypt.

I had read bad reviews about this hotel so I was rather worried but all my fears were soon dismissed.

This is a lovely hotel. The room was immaculate and the hotel and grounds beautiful. The food was good and you would be a very picky eater not to find something in the main or 3 themed restaurants. There are chefs there as well each night to cook you a fresh pasta or omelette if you still cannot find something to your liking.

The pool is lovely and far from having a problem getting sunbeds or parasols we found that 8.30 was soon enough to secure both and as it was already lovely and hot by then why waste the day in bed. The staff could not do enough for you their manners were impeccable. If you want to feel especially pampered pop into the perfume shop where there are happy to give you a free hand and face massage and make you smell wonderful too.

The coral reef owned by the hotel is amazing and the fish you will see snorkelling are some of the best I have seen. If I was to be critical I would say the entertainment is not the standard of a west end show but they do try hard and for the fit amongst you there is twice daily aqua aerobics and water polo.

Whilst the animation team is mostly Russian and Italian they all speak English and are only too happy to involve you and make you welcome.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough there were quite a few young children there who seemed perfectly happy and entertained. I cannot wait to go back.

All I can say is thank goodness we are home back in England!! (thats with hospital tests and reports being carried out by our doctors!!)

What seemed to be a great treat for myself and daughter has now turned into a so far an ordeal of two and a half weeks of illness. After the third day of sickness I decided to let our rep know how very poorly we were feeling.....she was sypathetic and did us the favour of filling our personal fridge with fresh water, (which was available free from all bars anyway!)

i completely blame the food at this all inclusive "set up" , with food being brought out and left on small inadequate burners to "keep warm".

Sadly we were not the only clients complaining and being so unwelll at this hotel, it was the chat of the pool every day that we did manage to get out.....

on a positive note the staff were very very kind and friendly, and the place was always cleaned to a good standard.

Another plus i lost a stone and a half!!!

All I can say is it’s the worst holiday I have ever been on!!!

Me and my boyfriend along with my sister and her husband who have travelled the world decided to add Egypt to their list of countries ventured!!

After looking through the brochure we chose the Tropicana grand oasis! BIG MISTAKE!!! You can imagine it now a holiday in a 5* Hotel all-inclusive and 40'c every day how amazing! WE THOUGHT!

Day 1- All well food not brilliant but weather great.

Day 2- the bellies started to rumble!!

I will not gore everyone with details but put it this way. We arrived home early hours this morning after being in the hotels 'hospital' 5 out of the 7 days we’ve endured nothing but tablets the size of gobstoppers, injections and drips.

After samples were taken we were told it wasn’t the food or the water but after getting home and after seeing our English doctor and having tests at the English hospital this morning that we discovered that we all had different bacterial infections cause by something taken orally!! Which is either food or swallowed pool water!!! We think the doctor in Egypt is covering up for the hotel not to mention the lies that the rep has told us!!!!

Thomas cook has been nothing but rude and obnoxious!! After being rejected a flight to come home and being told it’s the sun that’s made us ill even though our first day in the sun was yesterday and then making up an excuse that it was too much sodium in the mineral water even though that’s what the doctor gave us as medication!!

Don’t even start on the all-inclusive bit of the holiday, we were wondering why we had to where the wristband. we had to pay for drinks before 10 and after 12 ice creams weren’t free and BE WARNED! there’s an annoying chap trying to sell fruit juice that isn't free BUT HE DOESN'T MENTION THIS! we are not saying don’t go just be warned. Thing’s aren’t that clear in the brochure we are now told we can’t get any money back because 80% of people get ill! Nice to tell us in the brochure.

Just one last thing to mention the beach is not sand and it is a steep hill away from some of the rooms and in that heat you feel the burn!! It looks fantastic even when you get there but looks can be deceiving!!

I’ve just come back from this hotel (15th may) with my partner.

The hotel is lovely inside and out, staff are very friendly and don’t expect tips for anything, just a hello, please and a thank you, which they don’t always get from other Europeans.

There was a good choice of food a different theme buffet most nights, lots of fruit and fresh bread and lots of deserts, if we ever had to wait for a table it was 3 mins max. The Italian was nice, not a restaurant but tables outside. The drinks aren’t bad at all, imp not a wine expert but I thought it was nice, beer was nice and always cold.

The pool area was so clean and staff helpful, taking your towels to your seat, some people do get up early to get a space but we went out around 10-11 and always found a place in the sun. The snorkelling was great. Shisha corner on beach is nice and relaxing if you smoke. It is extra but costs 1 English pound and lasts ages. The entertainment isn’’t great mainly aimed at Italians, but not really my sort of thing anyway.

You cant really walk anywhere out of the hotel, but we didn’t find this a problem, you just get the free shuttle to Naama Bay, it doesn’t take long. I personally liked that the hotel was out the way, Naama bay is very busy with traffic and you do get hassled alot when walking down the street.

I’ve never stayed in a hotel before so I don’t have any comparison, but I really enjoyed myself. It was my partner’s birthday when we were there, we didn’t mention it but when cleaning the room they must have seen the card and later that day bought a birthday cake to our room.

Overall very good!! The airport is a bit unorganised, but a good destination.

We just returned from this Hotel, We found the food uneatable as it was constantly cold for the first three days, pool side snacks were a joke, even running out if French fries 10 mins after opening.

The dinning room was more like supermarket dash, preference clearly given to Russian and Italians,

The Italian "restaurant" was also a joke with the food cold getting to the table. And DON'T go to the fish restaurant.

The wine tastes like TCB the brandy like meths and the beer tasteless, you are more likely to drown first.

The Hotel was extremely clean, you could eat off the floor but you could not eat the food!!!.

The entertainment was poor, light years behind what to expect when paying £600 each.

And take a coat to wear at night as the wind is so strong it blows the chairs into the pool.

Ice cream and fruit juice are extra to the price even though we were all-inclusive.

The staff were very friendly, but appreciated tips for EVERYTHING they do.

Also be aware that the airport is so disorganised you can not believe it until you see it.

Namma Bay was nice and seemed a little more established, but not where we were.

And you have be up at 5;30 in the morning to get a sunbed and an umbrella otherwise nothing would be left
