perfect

"This is a most unusual setting, on stilts over a river, I was worried about getting bites due to the location, but that was not a problem. Ian is a great guy and he has a thai partner who looks after the guests to perfection. The location is great, the rooms are clean and have everything you would want. Ian has canoes, fishing tackle etc., for your use. He can arrange tours and trips. There are no negative points at all, it is highly recommended."

  • Holiday details: Jan 2013, Booked Independently
  • Advice: be adventurous, use the canoes, ride the motor bikes, swim in the river
  • Good For: Beach

Beautiful riverside spot

"My husband and i stayed at Baan Rim Nam for 11 night over xmas.We had a very enjoyable stay, Ian's house on stilts is located in a beautiful position, right on the river, and within 100 m easy walk or canoe ride to two really lovely quiet beaches. The room and bathroom were both bigger than we had expected, and they had very simple, yet tasteful furnishings. Ian is very knowledgeable on the area, and was very helpful when we asked for his advice, recommending good restaurants, and places to visit. We enjoyed eating breakfast each morning on the terrace, and lying in the hammock watching the river life pass by,while planning our activities for the day. In the evenings there are some very nice fish restaurants across the river that will come across and pick you up in their canoe(and take you up the river afterwards to see the fireflys). We really enjoyed our stay ,and were sad to leave.,we would have no hesitation in recommending Baan Rim Nam ."

A Magical Place

"We stayed hat Baan Rim Nam for 3 nights at the beginning of December and the only thing we wished we had done differently was spent more time there.

We arrived by hire car early evening and from the minute we arrived we felt at home. The bedrooms are large clean and simply furnished but there is nothing more you need.

The decking overlooking the river is wonderful both day and night. We dined at the restaurant over the river one night and the food as great, the trip down the river to see the fireflys was equally good.

The beach was a short walk away and was beautiful so clean and almost deserted, we loved to wander down late afternoon and swim and watch the sunset.

Ian the owner is a great guy, you can tell by the way he talks about Koh Chang how much he loves the Island. He advised us to drive down the East coast which is totally uncommerialised and we were glad we did, it was wonderful. He gave us recommendations for restaurants and even took our laundry to the village to be cleaned. We ate a simply breakfast each morning which was a great start to the day, you just help yourself to the very reasonably priced drinks from the large fridge and they are added to your bill to be paid at the end of your stay.

We loved everything about the guest house and Koh Chang, the pace of life was so much slower than anywhere else we visited and everything was so relaxed. We will definately be back and for a longer stay next year.

Idyllic riverside accommodation

"We had the pleasure of staying at Baan Rim Nam at the beginning of November and it was a truly special experience. The room was simple, clean and comfortable (although we did find the bed a bit hard, but this did seem to be the case in all the Thai accommodation we stayed in) .The outside deck over the water was a lovely place to be at any time of the day. The Guest house is in a truly idyllic setting and was just perfect for two frazzled guests who hadn't had a holiday all year. We felt completely rejuvenated even after our short stay. We dined at two of the restaurants acoss the river and both had delicious food and complimentary boat rips to see the fireflies up the river. However our favourite restaurant was KaTi in Khlong Prao village which came highly recommended by Ian and the food was the best we had our whole time in Thailand. Ian was a most helpful and friendly host and arranged both our Snorkelling trip and our visit to Ban Kwan Chang Elephant camp. I would recommend Baan Rim Nam to anyone as a wonderful place to spend your time in Ko Chang."

A little place in Paradise

"We stayed at Baan Rim Nam for the first 4 nights of our honeymoon on Koh Chang.

A fantastic place to stay, we stayed in one of the new rooms for one night & 3 nights in one of the original rooms - both are extremely spacious, clean & have aircon. The location is perfect, right on the river, you can see the water below your room through the small gaps in the floor boards & listen to it lapping when the tide comes in - bliss.

The deck area has plenty of seating & is covered so you can relax without getting burnt.

The owner Ian is a lovely chap & knows everything you need to know about Koh Chang. He also has some canoes which you can paddle down the river for free - go right from the deck & past the fishermans houses, take the right river fork & paddle until you see the elephant stand - if you time it right like I did you can watch the elephants being bathed. Loads of birds & fish to see as well.

The Phu Talay restaurant across the river will send a gondola across at night to collect you from Ian's deck - lovely food here. After you have eaten they will take you down the river to see the fire flies (for free) & then drop you back at Ian's deck.

Ian's golden retriever Santa is lovely - very friendly & loves swimming in the river - you can hear him swimming around under the deck.

In the evening the wooden bridge path is lit up & you can hear the clicking crabs.

The beach is a couple of minutes walk through the palm trees. A good place to eat is The Tiger Huts - right on the sea front, excellent Pad Thai & good prices.

Don't bother walking up the road to get to the village, walk up the beach & through the Blue Lagoon - a nicer walk & is quicker.

We would definately recommend staying at Baan Rim Nam.

One of the nicest places in the world

"We stayed at Baan rim naam over christmas and had a wonderful time. The setting on the river is totally idyllic and only a stone throw from an almost deserted beach (yes even at Christmas).

The rooms are large, beds are comfy (unusually comfy for Thailand as Thais like a very hard bed), and the place is spotless. All of the rooms come onto a verandah with an enormous private seating area overlooking the river. We bought a fishing rod and dangled over the side. Needless to say with our fishing skills and the fact we only had crisps for bait, we didnt catch an abundance of fish. We caught one though - ha ha. Ian (the owner of Baan rim naam) rang the local restaurant for us and they came along in a boat to collect us for dinner, complete with our prize fish. The fish of course was only big enough to put in a soup so the restaurant made us a delicious Tom Yam, we were very impressed.

On returning from the restaurant, the boat took us up the river, a totally magical experience where we spotted a few fireflys then back to Baan rim nam for a few more cold beers - Ian always keeps the fridge well stocked so no need to visit the shop. We sat watching the river listening to the peace and quiet of the nature around you.

I cant beleive this place is only about 1200 baht a night, a real bargain.

I would reccomend this place to everyone except a family with young children as they may end up in the river.

Brilliant Rooms, Location and Service - Highly Recommended!

"My boyfriend and I (both in our 20's) stayed at the Baan Rim Nam Guesthouse for 5 nights towards the end of September and had an amazing time. The Guesthouse is brilliantly located right on the river and only a 2 min walk to the stunning Khlong Prao beach - 1km stretch of white sand and palm trees, for the most part deserted while we were there! The local town is also within walking distance, just past the far end of the beach, and has several restaurants and internet cafes etc.

Ian was extremely helpful, picking us up and dropping us at the ferry port. He gave us lots of advice re where to go and when and rented a motorbike for us for a couple of days which was simply added on to our total bill.

I could go on... but if you're wanting a relaxing get away, away from the main tourist area and in a stunnning location this is definitely for you!

Is this heaven?

"Had the great pleasure to stay at Baan Rim Nam after a week long whirlwind tour of SE Asia. I had been in contact with Ian, the owner, for a few months getting everything set up. He was there is meet us at the ferry and I was blown away by Baan Rim Nam as soon as I arrived. It was way more then I had imagined and gathered from the website. From the walk through the mangrove forest on the footbridge to the huge deck everything was perfect. Ian is fantastic and very helpful in setting things up. He organized a jungle trek with Tan and got a gondola from a restaurant on the other side of the estuary to pick us up and drop us off for dinner!

Excellent place to stay, totally worth it in every way possible. I could go on and on but I will keep it short. If you are going to Thailand and want a place to unwind in peace and quiet, head over to Koh Chang and stay at Baan Rim Nam. You will not be disappointed.

Far from the madding crowd

"Spent a week here in March ’09, it’s a beautifully located Fishermans Cottage, converted to provide 3 a/c bedrooms/bathrooms fronting on to a communal deck over an estuary. There are a couple of fish restaurants on the opposite bank which will collect and deliver you back by boat. Whilst Ian doesn’t provide food, there is a fully stocked fridge with soft drinks/beers etc and Ian will happily do you tea/coffee/toast.

It’s an extremely peaceful, chilled out environment and away from it all. However, it only takes 5 minutes to walk through the coconut grove to the vast expanse of uncrowded beach. There are also a couple of beach bars/restaurants close by

Ian is a mine of local information and can offer tip on the best places to eat and visit as well as organising onward transport, excursions, car/bike hire etc.

We particularly liked Ian’s dog, Santa who wanders around with his monkey cuddly toy.

Could stay there forever.

"We stayed at Baan Rim Nam for 3 nights in January this year. Driving up the sandy road to the entrance i was lost. Whilst saying our goodbyes to our driver Ian appeared. As soon as we met Ian we felt relaxed. We walked along the timber walkway & at the end of the walkway we were taken aback by the surrounding & view.

Our room had a large bed & coffee table which was all that was needed. The bathroom is a good size & very clean.

The deck off the 3 rooms was my favourite place to be. One afternoon relaxing on the deck two black crabs came crawling thru the timber floor which gave me a laugh.

Klong Prao beach is only a few minutes walk down a sandy road full of coconut palms.

Would recommend packing a torch or buy a couple from the local store on the main road in Klong Prao like we did. They also sell fishing rods.

We ate breakfast at the Baracudda Restaurant on Klong Prao beach. Very laid back & friendly family run.

Again the deck area which is over water would have to be the most relaxing place to hang out & watch the river life go by.

We will definately be returning to Baan Rim Nam.
