Somnio Barcelona

I was traveling on my own to Barcelona for the first time, and found Somnio online after many many searches for hostels. Lauren and Lee (the owners, sisters from Chicago) are SO wonderful. They are knowledgable about the city, helpful in every sense of the word, and truly friendly. In fact, all the receptionists were great - always offereing to help or give a suggestion as to what to do at night or what to see during the day. After a month and a half of travelling we arrived in Barcelona. We felt extremely lucky to have chosen Somnio as it was by far the best hotel we had stayed in throughout continental Europe thus far, and we had paid over the twice the money for hotels (even in Spain) without getting Sominio's quality. New hotel in a great location in the cultural center of town - helpful staff with great "off-the-beaten" path recommendations - which is nice in a touristy city like Barcelona.

We stayed here during the beginning and end of our week in and around Barcelona last April. The rooms are a bit on the small side but clean and bright. We were slightly concerned with sharing a bathroom with other guests but it was really no problem at all since the door locks and you have the whole toilet/sink/shower area to yourself. My stay at the Somnio was great, I was hardly there so did exactly what it needed for me. I opted for the female dorm as I was travelling alone and hoped it would be more sociable, wasn't the case, but I guess that's luck of the draw. The room was clean and even the bunk beds were super comfy I had great sleep, lockers etc in the room really secure. Stayed with 2 others in the female dorm Nov 08. First experience in a hostel therefore we were not sure what to expect however the bathroom and room were kept clean. Keycards provided for the room and key for the lockers in the room. Located centrally and free map was provided which was a bonus. Staff and the owner were very friendly and helpful with planning our day. I had friends visiting me in Barcelona but I could not host them all. After visiting a few hostels I found Somnio and it was exactly what we were looking for: a reasonably priced accommodation, centrally located, beautifully decorated and with a high level of comfort. It was a nice discovery after visiting a few of the budget (i.e. old-fashioned) hostels. My friends stayed there over a weekend and they were totally happy. I will definitely recommend it again!

A small, quiet hostel in a great location, close to the Placa Catalunya. The staff are friendly and it is very clean and relaxed, with a free internet terminal and wifi. The lack of a kitchen area and its size means that Somnio isn't ideal for a longer-term stay or those looking to meet lots of other travellers but for a long weekend or similar it's perfect.

I stayed at the Somnio Barcelona for 3 nights in a single room this past March, and I had an excellent experience! The bedrooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean, and we had delicious homemade chocolate truffles waiting for us in our room upon our arrival – an excellent touch. I stayed at Somnio Barcelona this May for one night. As far as hostels go, it was very nice. I would have liked to stay in their single room, but as there were none available I stayed in a 6 person female dorm. The bedding was nice, the rooms were cute, the bathrooms were clean, and the small size of the hostel kept it quiet and pleasant. The wireless wasn't working - but there is a free computer in the lobby. I also liked the neighborhood. Excelent hostel! I definitly recommend it. Near from everything. Very clean and the hosts (Laureen & Lee) are very simpathetic.
