My husband and I stayed at the Kriti Hotel for one night because we were flying out of Chania very early the next morning. The room was pretty scruffy but the worst part was the location -- right across the street from an open-air concert podium. When we arrived we saw they... more

I'm biased - I really like the Kriti hotel in Chania. We've been back a couple of times and it hits the spot for us. I imagine that's because of its location, right in the centre of Chania town and a short walk from the seafront. Nearly all the brochures advertise hotels... more

Mixed - like the curate's egg.
Friendly staff & breakfasts were good. The room was unexceptional but adequate. The main problem we had was a room at the corner of the hotel, at the junction of two minor roads, nights were disturbed by motor bikes and car hi-fi systems, which frequently caused our patio windows to vibrate. Cheap & cheerful. Distance from town seems over-optimistic.
Good city hotel
We stayed in the hotel one night only and maybe we were just lucky but we haven't noticed any outstanding noice inside or outside. The hotel is located on the side street leading to the sea, thus traffic is less then on the central streets of Chania. The staff is polite and helpful. The food is normal, no special items, but plain and good. In any case in 5 minutes walk you are at the seashore with a great number of good restaurants and cafes. Thrully speaking we haven't noticed any beach in the nearby (mentioned in the description) but maybe we were not looking well :))) But instead we visited the waterpark of Chania which was graet - as compared with other places, very few people, so you don't need to stay in que half an hour, may be because you can get there only by taxi.
Comfortable, wondeful hotel
Just back from 3 1/2 weeks in Crete. Stayed for 4 days, then another 5 days at Hotel Kriti - excellent location for visiting the city. Clean, comfortable rooms - perfect for getting out and seeing the city. If you are visiting Chania to enjoy the city, the people, the food, then this is the place for you. You can walk around, enjoy the sights, the bust port scene (shops, restaurants, etc) even take a bus ride and then come back, rest in the hotel and go out at night. Breakfast is as good as any resort setup - a beautiful buffet beside the pool. The staff are absolutely first class - we had a medical emergency, uncle ended up in the hospital for several days, and the staff were terrific. If you want to just stay in your hotel room much of the day and be in a self contained resort where you don't leave the grounds, have a swimming pool and overpriced food, never experience the people, then try hotels outside of Chania to the west. If you want to have comfortable accomodations, a great start to the day with breakfast and then go out and explore the city, this is the spot for you.
Peaceful and Quiet (not)
This hotel has great staff and is kept very clean. We stayed in April 2005 and had the worst holiday of our lives. The hotel is taken over by groups of schoolchildren which was an absolute nightmare. We had to change rooms several times and even contemplated sleeping in our hire car to get a bit of peace. If we had not paid up front then we would have moved out. We have stayed at this hotel before and the street noise from motorbikes etc is bad but the location in Chania city was good. I would advise anybody to check first if there are any groups of kids etc booked into the Hotel at the same time. Peaceful and quiet it was not. The holiday was ruined for us - I did send a letter to the owners but had no reply. Hope this helps.
Very good hotel
I disagree with the negative points made in earlier reviews on this hotel. I have just returned from an enjoyable holiday in this hotel. Hotel Kriti is a typical greek hotel. Hotels in Greece are not in the same category as American hotels. If you want to stay in that sort of hotel then you need to stay at the Intercontinental in Athens. What do people expect for the sort of money they are spending. There was nothing wrong with this hotel, any noise was caused by outside influences, such a "boys" on motor scooters, these can be found driving past the best 5 star hotels in the world. At least they are not driving large, petrol guzzling cars!
worst hotel ever stayed in
NOISEY dirty and parties of 20/30 teenagers havent got a clue where all the good reviews come from all i can say if they find this a good hotel they must have stayed in some right dives DONT DONT even think about staying here YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Even the desk staff agree BUT you cant get to see the managment.
This is a good hotel
The Kriti is an excellent hotel. It really does look freshly renovated. I lead an archaeological study tour there in early January, and everybody liked the place. I don't know where the other reviewers were; it does not sound like the same hotel. There were no problems with the rooms, thin walls, traffic noise, or anything else (though if you happen to coincide with a bunch of obnoxious travellers that would indeed be a problem). Future travellers should not be put off by those negative reviews. Stay at the Kriti!
Pleasant town but very noisy location
I generaly agree with the previous review exept that we found the Kriti to be clean and welcoming. The bathrooms are small and the showers are certainly a unique experince for a 6 foot male. Some of the decor is looking a little tatty and the maintenence guy seems to be loosing the battle. The facilities are limited, especially the bar and bar menu but the staff are friendly, helpful and speak good English. The noise from the traffic and kids outside though is horrendous. Unsilenced motor bikes, revving cars, squealing tyres and car radios until three in the morning ruined an other wise pleasant holiday
Nice lobby and staff....that's it..hotel is awful
Date of travel - October 2004 Number of nights - 3 Upon arrival, we thought it was a really nice hotel when we saw the lobby. But the minute we walk into our first room, our opinions changed. Small (especially the bathroom), dark and dingy. In addition, there were urine stains on the toilet seat. Of course we changed rooms. Same thing, except for the urine stain. Surrounding area did not look very pleasant at all. Graffiti on the walls of buildings. The worst part about this hotel is that the walls on very thin. You hear all the noise from inside and outside the hotel. The hotel is near (2 city blocks) a strip of cafes that is frequented by teenagers and young adults during the evening. We spent 3 nights being up until 3am because that's basically when all the kids went home. It was so much that the kids were screaming and yelling, but that they would rev their motorcycles or cars very loudly. I had to turn on the tv and leave it on just so I could try and fall asleep.
Go here only if you love groups of obnoxious high schoolers!
Staying in this hotel was an awful experience! The hotel itself was relatively inexpensive - 60 euros/night in off season including buffet breakfast. But most of their business comes from groups - and they get a lot of high school groups. There was one such group when we stayed there and they took over the hotel, running from balcony to balcony, throwing things out the window, screaming and slamming doors all night long. The walls are VERY thin here and the hotel took no responsibility for making the children (or having their group leaders make them) behave. After two nights here we had to leave early because we never slept. Rooms all have balconies, some with a sea view, others of the building behind it. Bad television reception and few news channels. Uncomfortable beds. There was hot water and, to their credit, the front desk reception was very friendly...but unfortunately that didn't help when it came to controlling the obnoxious other guests! IF anyone did stay here, make SURE there is not a school group there at the same time...for no amount of money was it worth putting up with all those truly badly behaved kids!
