Kriti Hotel Reviews
" Horrible stay "
Submitted By: DKH
My husband and I stayed at the Kriti Hotel for one night because we were flying out of Chania very early the next morning. The room was pretty scruffy but the worst part was the location -- right across the street from an open-air concert podium. When we arrived we saw they were setting up for a concert and asked to be moved to a room on the back of the hotel, but we were told that wasn't possible. The music started at around 6pm (Nirvana covers sung badly off key) and the noise was so loud our walls were literally shaking in time with the drums and the base. The hotel staff said the concert should be over by 11 or 11:30 pm but when we got back from a very leisurely dinner the concert was still going strong (no more than 50 people dancing to some horrible local hard rock band). In the end they went on well past midnight with our walls thumping along to every beat. One might actually be tempted to feel sorry for the Kriti management, being cursed with such a horrible location, but the complete indifference, lies and rudeness of the staff really topped off this holiday experience. Stay away, and book yourself a nice quaint hotel in the Old Town.
" I'm biased - I really like the Kriti... "

I'm biased - I really like the Kriti hotel in Chania. We've been back a couple of times and it hits the spot for us.
I imagine that's because of its location, right in the centre of Chania town and a short walk from the seafront. Nearly all the brochures advertise hotels as being in Chania when they're actually several kilometres away - we're not keen on places miles from anywhere and so the Kriti is ideal.
It is, I suppose, a business hotel, and it might not suit, say, families with young children who would like extensive gardens and pools. However, it has a quiet, clean pool with high walls all round which our two lads (14 and 18 when we last went there) found useful after a day's sightseeing.
The rooms are a good size, well kept, with excellent air-con and the front lobby and bar are spacious and pleasant places to sit. The town goes past your doorstep every evening. It also has internet access which you pay for hourly - that too was much appreciated by the boys. The staff are pleasant and unobtrusive.
Really, though, the hotel's charm is because it isn't particularly touristy. Next door is a rather rickety looking arena with wooden bench seats where they hold concerts (about once a week) - the music stops abruptly at about eleven, so it's no problem and quite interesting to sit on your balcony and watch how the local people really live.
It's also very convenient for the market which is held weekly, where they sell mounds of beautiful fruit and veg and huge knickers!
About ten minutes walk and you're right in the middle of Chania's shopping centre and a further 15 mins and you reach the main beach. The harbour area is well worth seeing, all old crumbly Venetian influenced buildings and plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. It buzzes at night without being full of people vomiting and you can eat somewhere different every day.
Chania is one of my favourite places and the Kriti, in my opinion, is the hotel that lets you savour it. I shall be going back.
