Schlosshotel Lisl

We booked a suit with Hotel Lisl for our anniversary. It was a package deal with 2 dinners at the hotel and 2 tours of the castles. It was wonderful. The suit had a comfortable bed, spacous suit, amazing bathroom (robes, towels, chocolates!!). There is really nothing to complain of. We had a balcony that over looked the little city there. After dragging our suitcases up a rather steep hill we arrived at reception and were greeted by name - obviously expected. We were then told we needed to go back down the hill to a different hotel. We showed our voucher with the address stating paid in full and were told that the Schlosshotel Lisl was a more expensive hotel and regardless of our receipt we would have to stay at their other property or pay 24 additional euros. We stayed in a corner room on the second floor; from one side you could see Neuschwanstein castle, from the other, Hohenschwangau. The views were excellent. The room was fairly large, but unremarkably furnished. We found the place rather charmless, but it difficult to explain why. The staff were courteous and well organised and we could not really find anything to fault. You will not find a closer location to the two castles! This is a very fine hotel in the vicinity of the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Neuschwanstein is the catle built by "Mad" King Ludwig that became the basis for Disney's Cinderella Castle. The hotel Lisl is at the foot of the hill leading up to this castle, and directly across the street from the foot of the hill leading up to Hohenschwangau. Our room was ready upon arrival, but we discovered that for only ten Euro more we could have a corner room with a good view of both castles. We upgraded, and we're glad that we did.... more
