Bonapace Porta Nolana Bed & Breakfast

This place was absolutely fantastic. Naples itself was awful but the B&B we stayed at was wonderful. The room was the nicest one my boyfriend and I stayed in during our european holiday and although it looks dodgy from the outside, once you are in the hotel it is immaculate. We arrived very late at night (thanks to the ever not so reliable italian trains going on strike) and so we rang ahead and they were able to still greet us on our arrival. The Bonapace B&B Porta Nolana was terrific in Naples. It is in a rather salubrious neighbourhood, very Naples! But the hotel was very well appointed inside. It was old with lots of character, yet nicely renovated and clean. We felt very safe and comfortable and right in the middle of the action! My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights in April. When we walked up to the front door, we were a bit weary. It is an apartment in a huge building but the outside looks more like a prison gate than a community gate. We were a bit put off BUT the locals hanging around were wonderful. They immediately recognized us as tourists (the giant bags and maps must have given it away) and sprang into action pointing us in the right direction and ringing the bell to get the B&B owner. This is a great B&B - very well furnished and decorated, friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble and a great base for Naples - 2 minutes to trams and Naples Bay trains, 5 mins to bus station and 10 mins to main train station. The only downside is the area around the hotel - have your wits about you especially at night - as indeed for Naples as a whole! Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri and the volcano are all worth a visit.....

We arrived late on Thursday, March 16, 2006. While the accomodations themselves - the room, the lobby, the breakfast area, were all very nice, clean, spacious and lovely. By far, one of the prettiest B&B's and one of the largest and most comfortable rooms (and bath) of all the places we stayed on our trip. I would like to recommend this wonderful B&B accommodation to all fellow travelers. Although the first impression from outside is not good, please do not judge from outside appearances, you will be truly delighted with the quality and cleanliness of this accommodation, definitely to be classed as a B &B.
