Al Teatro Bed & Breakfast

We returned yesterday from staying for two nights at the Al Teatro a small three roomed family managed Bed and Breakfast run by Eleanora and Fabio. Their accommodation is located on the first floor with a flight of steps to the front door. We found the hotel easily from the directions provided by Eleanora and couldnt believe how near it was to St Marks square. The convenience of the location enabled us to nip along to St Marks square before breakfast and the rest of the tourists decended upon it. We received a warm welcome on arrival- which was much appreciated! Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking a canal popular with the gondoliers who were busy serenading.- A bonus for us! The bedroom had plenty of storage space and had much needed air conditioning! The bathroom had a wonderful shower with towels that were changed each day. There was a hairdryer located next to the mirror. Breakfast was provided between 8.30 a.m and 10.00a.m and was as described by other reviews - sweet and plentiful! .. Eleanora made me latte coffee in request! Eleanora and Fabio provided lots of information about places to eat and were willing to make reservations on our behalf. We were given a key to their front door so that we could come and go as we wished.

My wife and I spent 3 wonderful nights in early June 2005, at Al Teatro, in a 400 year old building. We had a very large, nicely appointed room with a small balcony, overlooking a busy canal just minutes from the Grand Canal, San Marco, La Fenice and excellent shopping and dining. Eleonora and her family made us feel like "locals", and were extremely helpful and accomodating. Also close to the Vaporetto stop, Giglio. Breakfast was great, ambiance was unique and we had plenty of privacy. Highly recommended.

a simple bed and breakfast with lots of character in a beautiful and very convenient spot in the San Marco district. Strongly recommended. Not easy to find (but where is in Venice?) - it is directly behind La Fenice theatre - bear this in mind if you go. The room with the balcony was delightful, spotlessly clean and newly refurbished but still with beautiful old features and furnishings, bed was very comfortable and a/c quiet and efficient. Very simple tho so don't go if you want 5 star luxury.

We were very pleased with our stay at the Al Teatro B&B. It was our first stop in Italy and gave us a very good impression. The location is just perfect and easy to find. All the major sites are within walking distance, or if you just want to ride the canal, a vaporetta stop is a block away. The rooms were great, as we actually experienced two. The first was a large, very clean corner room with windows looking down three canals. The last night, Eleonora asked if we could move rooms, due to work being done. The second room was even nicer than the first, with a balcony and big bathroom. It was so romantic to see and hear the gondoliers floating by in the evening. Breakfast was good and generous. I would definitely stay again.

B&B Al Teatro is a gem tucked away in Venice! While only steps away from the Grand Canal and major shops, down a small cobblestone street and around a corner, B&B Al Teatro offered a quiet respite from the noisy Venice foot traffic. Our room had a fantastic balcony overlooking a side canal - we ate breakfast here everyday (see photos attached). Breakfast included fresh fruit, croissants, a selection of cereals, yogurt, coffee and juice. Please also see the photo attached of the bridge right outside the front door of the Al Teatro at night.

Fabio recommended a fantastic restaurant "Acqu Pazza" for our first night. While dining there, we met a couple from London who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary and we spent the following evening with them as well. The restaurant is on a square - not on the water - but definitely worth a visit. Reasonable prices, excellent food and LARGE portions! The Limoncello is also a must after dinner!

Also worth noting: we were on our honeymoon and during the first leg of our travel from the U.S., I lost a crown from one of my teeth. We e-mailed Eleanora and she was able to schedule an appointment for me with an Italian dentist on a Friday afternoon of a national Italian holiday weekend!!! The dentist's office was clean, bright and he did an excellent job of repairing my tooth. We doubt that a large hotel would have been able to call in this kind of favor!

Located on a quiet canal, you can watch the gondolas go by and view the back of La Fenice opera house. The location is wonderful. 3 very comfortable rooms with modern baths (one with a balcony) and breakfast daily (cappacino if you prefere to coffee) and assistance with anything you want to know. There's even a computer with fast internet connection. All this at a great price, especially for Venice. We would definitely go back again.

We stayed at Al Teatro for 3 nights in May - the first in a (relatively) smaller room and the 2nd two in the large room with balcony. We paid 130 euros per night for our double, including breakfast. Both rooms were a great size with very modern and well-sized bathrooms. The rooms are very quiet and dark at night - we slept great! During the day you can be entertained by the gondolas floating right outside your window, sometimes with accordian players and singers along for the ride. As everyone mentions, the location is perfect for being very close to the San Marco sites, though on a quieter calle that gets you away from the tourist hordes a bit.

Eleonora and Fabio are great hosts, ready to share plenty of recommendations. Breakfast was generous and delicious - we had a selection of warm croissants, rolls, cereal, cakes, juices, as well as cappuccinos and hot chocolate.

The only drawback which we found (which was not big enough to prevent us from staying there again) was that we initially felt a little bit like we were intruding in someone else's home...because it is their home! The owners and their children live in the same area, so they'll be hanging out, eating dinner, etc. as you come and go. Not a big deal, and we got used to it very quickly - also, you get your own key for the front door so you don't need to bother them everytime you return.

Overall, we would definitely return to this hotel - great location, spacious rooms and bathrooms, quiet, friendly owners, good value in a pricey city.
