A jewel in Venice!

"We stayed with the brothers for 5 days during easter 2005, and had a wonderful time. Our family of 6 stayed in a comfortable "suite". It was clean and well kept. The breakfast was excellent, and the help we got from the brothers to get around was very helpful. We have stayed in a number of 5 star hotels over the years, but this was not far off - and we got genuine hospitality as an extra! If we ever go to Venice again - this is the place!"

"We have just returned to Rome from a three night staying at your hotel and we would like to thank you for making our really too short holiday in Venice so special in your Ca’ Angeli, one of the most magic and wonderful venetian house.

We did so appreciate your hospitality and we hope to come back again in the nearest future

Unbelieveable Value!

"My husband and I stayed at Ca'Angeli with our 14 year old daughter in early March. The hotel is immaculate and the hosts are delightful. We arrived early in the morning after flying all night and were so grateful that we were allowed an early check-in. Although we thought we had booked a triple room, we were delighted to find that our "room" was a spacious apartment. My husband and I travel a fair amount on business and are used to staying at very nice hotels -- we are very picky. This hotel is small and was very different from the hotels we are used to, but we thoroughly enjoyed the family atmosphere and the personal touch of our hosts. The owners have taken great care in their renovation -- quality fixures (Grohe) and gleaming white tile in the bath. Although the decoration is simple, it is in very good taste. The breakfast was wonderful and the atmosphere peaceful. We were a little nervous about the location before our arrival, but really enjoyed being out of the tourist center and in a real neighborhood. We were still within minutes of the major sites. The restaurant recommendations we got from our hosts were excellent -- good family-run restaurants full of locals, not tourists. We understand that all of Venice is expensive and that even the major hotels can be unpredictable, but found that this hotel gave us a great experience for a very reasonable price. We moved on to Florence and Rome and stayed in five star hotels at both places. Although Ca'Angeli is totally different than the hotels we chose in Florence and Rome, we can honestly say that we enjoyed our stay at Ca'Angeli as much as we enjoyed our stay at the Excelsior in Florence and the Intercontinental in Rome. It was a wonderful way to experience Venice."

Simply The Best !

"We just returned from a seven night stay at Ca' Angeli in Venice. This Guesthouse is truly the "home of the angels". The Wulten's ancestoral home and its' furnishings are magnificient. Giorgio and Matteo are the kindest souls you would find anywhere on earth.

Our guestroom was charming, spacious, quiet, and filled with history. The gorgeous tile floor was original to the home. From our window we had a lovely view of a typical little Venetian canal. The bath was immaculate and had everything one could as for--including a towel warmer. The living room overlooks the Grand Canal and is filled with 17th century furniture, paintings, and books. The breakfast room which adjoins the living room has beautiful, as well as, functional antique furniture. Every morning classical music filled the air as we enjoyed a sumptous buffet with foods from different places in Italy--such as oranges from Sicily. The beautiful painting in this area added a calmness that took one's imagination back to very early days in Venice.

On our fourth night in Venice my husband became ill and the next morning we knew we needed help in determining the cause. Giorgio was so understanding and made arrangements for a doctor to come to our room and advise us. Giorgio accompanied the doctor and translated for us. The cause was definitely influenza. That evening Giorgio prepared a light meal for the ailing one. By the next morning the patient was much improved and we were able to continue exploring the wonders of Venice. This was due in large part to the speedy care and attention to our circumstances by Giorgio. It is not pleasant to become sick when you are far from home. Giorgio surely made us feel more at ease and we knew he would help us in any way that was necessary.

During our stay, at our request, Matteo and Giorgio recommended restaurants that had excellent food, service, and value. Our last night there they made reservations for us at a restaurant near the Rialto Bridge. Since this was a special day honoring women each lady was given a bouquet of mimosa blossoms upon arrival. We were served complimentary antipasti and Prosecco followed by a delicious dinner---a very special dinner indeed as we were celebrating an early 35th wedding anniversary.

Giorgio and Matteo truly want their guests to feel comfortable and relaxed in their home and to enjoy their stay in Venice. They are very proud of their Guesthouse and have lovingly preserved their Uncle Angelo's home in a way that would make him very happy. We felt honored to spend time in such a special place rich with history, family ties, and love.

We have already told our family and friends about Ca' Angeli and we would encourage anyone planning a trip to Venice to stay here. We feel we were blessed to meet Giorgio and Matteo and we now consider them our very special friends in Italy. We would love to return to Venice some day and we would not even consider staying anywhere else. Ca' Angeli is simply the best!!!

It has been a privilege to post this message. We trust that those who read it will know that it has been written with sincerity and honesty. We left a piece of our hearts in Ca' Angeli and in Venice and we have memories that we will cherish always.

The many acts of kindness that were extended to us by Giorgio and Matteo will never be forgotten. We wish them continued success as they strive to give their guests outstanding hospitality in a beautiful home away from home. A Grateful Couple From The USA

Don't believe the hype!

"On arrival at Ca'Angeli we were baffled as to how it could be possibly be tripadvisor's number 4 hotel in Venice. It's an adequate bed and breakfast, clean and well equipped but we found it to be nothing special and quite overpriced. It's difficult to find, our room was tiny and the walls were paper thin -- we could hear everything from the next door room. The breakfast was average, nothing more than you would expect from a continental buffet breakfast, with no service, and it was a shame the breakfast room had no view. The host was helpful, but I wouldn't recommend asking him for advice if you have anything less than half an hour to spare.

We wrote a couple of lines, on request, in the guest book and were surprised to receive, on our return, an e-mail asking us to post our comments on the tripadvisor website. This is clearly a very clever business move and has led to the hotel rating so highly on this website, but it could be misleading. Ca'Angeli is not a terrible place to stay and you could certainly do worse, but neither is it the 4th best hotel in Venice.

Management response from CAANGELI, 11 Mar 2005

Reply to the review "Don't believe the hype!". Dear Sirs, My name is Matteo Wulten. I'm really sorry if your stay in Ca' Angeli wasn't completely satisfactory, for this reason we will prize your impressions highly to try to improve our service. Moreover we apologize to all the Guests who left their impressions on Tripadvisor reviews and to all that wrote on the Ca' Angeli online guestbook (commercial URL) because all of them evidently left impressions misinformed by our untruthful behaviour. Whoever reads this note will hopefully remember my being Italian. I'm trying to express delicate feelings in a language which is not mine.

A wonderful place!

"We stayed for four nights at Ca' Angeli in February, 2005. It is situated near to the Rialto Bridge, making it a very convenient starting point for various "tours" of Venice.

You might need to persevere to actually find Ca'Angeli but keep at it for when you find it, it is a wonderful place!

The accommodation is of a very high standard, very comfortable and clean and is beautifully presented. Our room actually overlooked the Grand Canal, which was wonderful. There is a very comfortable communal sitting room, which also overlooks the Grand Canal.

Breakfast is served in a very pleasant room and is of the self service "continental" type with a good selection of dishes.

Giorgio and Matteo and their colleagues are very helpful and are very keen to make your stay enjoyable. They will willingly point you in the way of good food!

Ca' Angeli was a wonderful place to have as a base on our visit to Venice.

An Anniversary Experience To Remember

"My wife and I have just celebrated our 25th anniversary at Ca’ Angeli and there can be no better place to stay than in the company of Matteo and Giorgio Wulten. From the moment you are greeted from the lift, they ensure your company is an extension of their family. We stayed for 3 nights in room 5 with the amazing rooftop terrace. Though the room is small, it was certainly cosy on freezing cold nights and the terrace would be simply fantastic on a warm summers evening. If we stayed longer we maybe would have liked a bigger room but we only slept there anyway. Where else in Venice would you get your own large patio area complete with furniture and views of the rooftops and Grand Canal. Unfortunately for us, the freezing temperatures limited our use of this wonderful area.

The accommodation is immaculately clean, Girgio and Matteo take real pleasure from providing guests with a high standard offered only by the best hotels. The breakfast is a great start to the day with cereal, fruit, meats and cheeses, yogurts and croissants all helped down with fresh juice, tea, coffee or even malted milk drinks. Set next to the living room overlooking the Grand Canal, the tables are laid with care and thought, cutlery glistening. The whole experience is typically Venetian even down to the music.

Advice and recommendations on eating and visiting attractions are provided with individual needs catered for. We liked Birraria at the back of San Polo Square, just a 3 minute walk on a cold night for Pasta and Pizza worthy of the best Italian restaurants. The meat dishes were beautiful and the house wine recommended. Ca’Angeli is without doubt worthy of the highest accolade. We would definitely stay again as everyone no doubt will. Miss this gem and you’ll be disappointed. Thanks to everyone there for making our Silver Anniversary a really memorable experience and to Giorgio especially for being the official photographer of our special day. Your house is without question a truly Venetian Experience.

Not just a hotel, but a real palace!

"We spend last weekend for 3 nights at Ca' Angeli. It feels more like you stay with wealthy Italian friends, then a hotel! The breakfastroom/ library with views on the Grand Canale is very special! The rooms are very nicely decorated, and very clean! Giorgio and Matteo were very helpful with restaurant advise and giving directions how to get around in Venice. Highly recommended!!!"

Perfect for family break

"The family suite with 2 separate bedrooms was really appreciated. This lovely hotel with views from the lounge onto the Grand Canal provided the perfect location for our family break. The hotel is minutes from Rialto Bridge and by starting the day with a good breakfast we were able to explore Venice easily. A memorable stay."

Wonderful stay in Venice

"Five wonderful days in Venice at Ca'Angeli! Our hosts Giorgio and Mateo were charming and very helpful with restaurant suggestions and directions. Our room was spotless and comfortable, and the sittng room was light and cheerful with a perfect view of the Grand Canal. The breakfasts were excellent, complete with Vivaldi for atmosphere. We will tell all of our friends at home in New Orleans about this special hotel."
