Galaxy Suites & Spa

This hotel is a great place to stay, especially if you need an apartment with numerous bedrooms. We were three couples who each had our own bedrooms with two and a half baths. There were two brand new bathrooms both with Jacuzzi tubs. Our apartment had an enormous common area with kitchen, dinning and living room area. The simple breakfast (included) was served by a sweet English speaking art student on the terrace with the most amazing views. There weren't many reviews on the Galaxy when we booked, but I couldn't have been happier on arrival. First of all, Imerovigli is far superior to the tourist heavy Fira (think hundreds of cruise ship folks in tiny walkways) or Oia (again, huge crowds, especially at sunset). Secondly, The Galaxy was an easy walk from the parking area (MANY of the hotels in Fira, Imerovigli and Oia have you dragging your bags through various back walkways up or down hills). The view was great.Our studio was an upper level with balcony.The bathroom was Very Small-the shower curtain was the width of the bathroom-in other words if I stood with my arms outstrecthed I would touch each wall.Your breakfast was definitely continental-4 rolls,1 bowl of yogurt for 2 people,one cup of coffe and juice each(we weren't asked if we wanted refills?and you had your sugar and milk, jam and honey.The owner or manager did not speak english,so you have to rely on the guy who served breakfast,cleaned pool etc to be the go between... more

With only one Tripadvisor review to back it up, we booked the Galaxy apartments, filled with hope more than confidence. During the taxi trip from the port to the hotel, I had convinced myself that we had a big mistake and was dreading my family's reaction when we would arrive at the hotel. When we finally did arrive we were very pleasantly surprised (and relieved I might add). In June of 2005, I arrived at the Galaxy Apartments with high expectations and a skeptical male entourage (husband, brother and sons aged 15 and 20). Arriving early, we had to wait a bit for the room to be ready, but Maria, ever the gracious hostess, made us comfortable and gave us breakfast while we waited for the room to be readied. We stayed at the Galaxy for a week in May 2003. The 2 bedroom apartment we shared with another couple was so huge we could practically play tennis in it! It is a traditional cave apartment; very quaint and fun with lots of room for dancing. Overlooking the calderra, the views are beautiful, and especially stunning at sunset. The hotel has a nice (but very cold) pool; maybe it warms up later in the season.
