When first booking my holiday to...

When first booking my holiday to Egypt we were at a different hotel, but after reading reviews on the hotel, we changed to Island View 1 week before are holiday.
We went as a party of 4 and the rooms were amazing. When we first arrived at the hotel the reception staff were wonderful they gave us all the information we needed and gave us a few laughs. We were shown to our rooms straight away.
We had 2 rooms which were right on top of each other and were like apartments rather than just a room. The hotel was amazing and the staff were wonderful. The rooms were cleaned everyday and all the gardening was done every morning.
The hotel has two teams that provide entertainment the first is Thomas cook reps who mainly work with kids and the animation team that work with both adults and kids.
There are 4 pools in the resort the main pool has a swim up bar pool 2 is where the reps and the animation team work and 3 and 4 is where you can relax.
The only fault I can give this hotel is the entertainment at the main pool at night which was a man and woman singing they did the same songs every night and got a bit annoying after the 3rd day.
They had an amphitheatre which had a kids disco at 8.30 till 9.30 then a show by the reps and animation team each show was different and I found them amazing.
At 11 there was a disco till 3 for over 16 which was a good atmosphere but drinks were not all inclusive in there.
On a Friday night the animation team sells tickets at a good price to go to one of the best clubs in Sharm the ticket give you a free drink in there and a coach takes you there at 11 and picks you up outside at 3 to take you back to the hotel and 2 of the animation team attends with guests.
All the staff at the hotel were amazing and polite. I am booking the hotel again for next year and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

I am a 15 year and I know some of you may think "Why is he writing on here?" Well...
It’s just to say that from when I was 3 years old, Egypt had always been my dream holiday. And just getting to Egypt was an absolute joy, but, this hotel was absolutely amazing.
The staff were all brilliant, really funny and good to get along with. They would do anything for you, and I mean anything.
The rep at the hotel got me and my mum a trip arranged to go to Cairo and see the Pyramids, the Museum, the Sphinx, and the town centre.
When we went to Cairo it was amazing and although it was expensive to go, I recommend it to everyone to try it out.
The food at the hotel was great and so was the entertainment.
This was easily the best hotel and holiday of my life and I would definitely go again year after year after and never get bored.

I went last year with 2 friends, we had a fantastic time!
We were wowed by the hotel when we arrived it’s a beautiful hotel very grand.
The staff are amazing every one of them are so helpful and fun especially Mohammed (one of the pool guys) he was so friendly, really added fun to our days spent by the pool.
Then there’s Omar from the English bar he is the best barman ever! So lovely attentive and happy! The pools are gorgeous.
The restaurants are well looked after by a great team of waiting staff. The food is standard All Inc food (steak for brekkie was a bit strange though!).
The shows at the amphitheatre in the resort are not only entertaining but a pleasure to watch and if you’re brave enough join in with! They had a variety show, a fire show, a comedy show (Joe from Tunisia who is one of the main men on stage is so funny and gorgeous!) and many other shows.
There is food served till around 2 in the morning which is good when you’re having a drink! A lovely sheesha corner ran by Saheed who is fab!
The excursions in Sharm are amazing we went on an 8 hour boat trip to Tiran Island for £20! The quad biking trips are fantastic and the water park in Naama bay(about 15 mins in a taxi which can cost between £3 and £6 depending on how hard you barter!
If you want it for £3 use the word 'Delatine' it means 3 and the taxi drivers will almost always give it to you for that! I would recommend Sharm to anyone!
I went with my 2 friends we are between 17 and 19 they have some great bars! Which are slightly overpriced. They have a Pascha, a Hard rock Cafe and a must see a bar called the Little Buddha!
A word of warning for the girls though, the men are a little too friendly sometimes so if you’re going learn to be tough and they'll leave you alone!
I hope this had helped anyone going to Sharm especially staying in the Sunrise Island View.

I did not rate this as a 5 star hotel, possibly a three. The staff were generally friendly but then I guess they were hoping for tips! We didn’t need a visa as we were not leaving Sharm, though Thomas Cook were emphatic before we left that we would need one.
Lots of Russians and yes they can be rude but there were few problems over that. Be careful of items listed as all-inclusive and then charged for, like massage. This is a really unusual location, desert but yet green through constant gardening.
All my family became ill at this hotel and we are certain that it was the food. To spend 3 or 4 days out of 7 sick means that this holiday was something of a disaster. Others I know had stayed elsewhere in Sharm and never been ill.

We had a fantastic time at the Sunrise Island View Hotel which was set in beautiful grounds near the beach, the Sunrise Island Garden was about 5 mins away across the road. I had read some mixed reviews before we went but all I can say is some people must be very picky as apart from some very minor things this hotel is fine. Our room was great with a separate living area, and I would rate this hotel as 4*. The food could sometimes be strange but with English, Russian and German guests they had to please everyone. There was always something you could find to eat but don't come if you expect English food all the time, so try to be adventurous.
You could get hot dogs and burgers on the beach but all the restaurants served a good variety of meals. Most of the staff couldn't do enough for you although, the evening pool waiters could be really slow at times. The swimming pools were very good with a choice of 4. Pool 4 had a British Supersun team and Pool 1 had a hotel animation team, Pool 2 was a family pool and Pool 3 (which we liked) was quiet so you could totally relax. The beach was good with a jetty to get into the sea, so not good for nervous swimmers, but the snorkeling was fantastic, it was my first go at it and it was like swimming in your own personal aquarium.
The evening entertainment was OK, the background pool singers were so bad it was funny! But the proper animation teams put on good shows in the amphitheatre every night at 10 o'clock. Sharks Bay was a quiet place with not much to do outside the hotel, but if you just want to chill out this place is perfect. Although close to the airport we didn't find the aircraft too distracting, and the wind here meant it was cooler than Naama Bay where we found the heat oppressive. Go to Naama Bay for a more lively atmosphere, personally I didn't like it much as the shopkeepers are continually trying to get you in their shops, and you can't look at anything.
Come to Sharm if you are looking for perfect weather everyday and if you want a chill out beach holiday. Highly recommended. By the way, don't get a visa at the airport, they will try their hardest to get you to buy one, but you don't need one to visit most places on the Sinai peninsula, we did a trip to the desert and Dahab without one. If we had wanted to go to Cairo the rep could get a visa for you anyway.

Hotel fantastic beautiful and very clean. Staff excellent from managers to cleaners. Please and thank you go a long way to improve your stay as well as the occasional small tip. Make the effort to be friendly when speaking to staff and watch how they treat you as friends. Even the pool staff become your buddy with just a little friendly banter around all 4 pools.
The hotel night entertainment was not brill but made relaxing background noise whilst chatting, the reps shows at night were good and funny and broke the night up. Snorkeling was out of this world at the hotels beach, my daughter who's 8 was frightened to try as its deep at the jetty 20 to 30ft deep. I have son aged 14 daughter 8 who could quite happily find something to do without going outside hotel complex. We had quad biking trip into the desert which was well worth the money I wont describe it to you, just try it!
At the hotel there are plenty of Russians with no manners, hotel staff do not like the majority of them again this is with having no manners. I found by a little tipping and good manners my whole family hardly had to move to get food and drink.
Be warned everyone gets a bad stomach, uncomfortable but you can live with it. We could not pinpoint the cause because we all ate different food and drink. Food brill loads of choice remember you are not in England although they do some English its not same but don’t go if you are not willing to try something else. My family did not want to come home after two weeks which normally we are looking to come home after 10 -11 days.
Animators fantastic with my kids and they are different nationalities. Overall it will be hard to beat this place and hotel and we have had various holidays in various countries. We will be going back to this hotel next year something we have never done.

Just back (22.8.06) from a one week...
8 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr RDJ Hunt

Just back (22.8.06) from a one week stay at the Sunrise Island View all Incl. This hotel claims 5* status yet has no facility to change currency or t/cheques, so obviously what we view as 5* is a little different. It does boast some fantastically comfortable and well laid out Junior Suites though, and if you book a double bed it's big enough to sleep three or four, and they're superbly comfortable!
The staff do try to be as helpful as possible, but we saw red after 24 hours when my 16 year old son dropped his wallet at the dinner table and no one admitted to having seen it, then one of them said four days later that it'd been handed in. We finally got it back from reception minus all his cash, but surprisingly still with his bank debit card in it (although we'd naturally cancelled it the night it went missing). Oddly, no one, waiters nor reception staff, could tell us exactly who had actually handed it in or when! This I find most odd as I'd have expected a 5* hotel to have had a proper lost property logging system, but not this one it would appear.
That little moan aside, the hotel is beautifully laid out and the grounds are lovely to walk around in the evening (if you can stand the heat). Can't say any of us took to the local beer, Sakara, but that's all you can have on the All Inclusive deal. The spirits aren't very nice either. Ask for something like a vodka and coke, for example, and they half fill the glass with vodka, which sounds great if you fancy a quick trip to oblivion, but it doesn't seem to get you there as quickly as you'd think somehow! This is not a hotel criticism though because All Inclusive deals at any of the hotels will result in the same choice of local alcohols being offered. Went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Naama Bay one night and had Heineken for a change, and it was like nectar!
Some criticise Sharks Bay as being a bit out of the action, but we liked it that way. Outside the hotel itself is very little, just one parade of shops, and a Bank that opens occasionally, but sends you to the Concord hotel next door if you want to cash travelers cheques. Guess this makes the Concord worth an extra star? Don't be put off by all the talk about the blue taxis, they're terrific, and very cheap. OK they're not air conditioned, but they'll get you to Naama Bay in 5-10 mins for about £3-£4.
One tip if, like all but one of my party, you're prone to jippy tummy. Forget taking loads of Imodium with you, visit any local Pharmacy over there and tell them what your problem is and for £5 approx you'll get a pack of yellow tablets (Nifuroxazide) plus some bigger flat round ones that they tend to sell together as a package. Take one of each 4 times a day and they'll sort you out in no time. I took Imodium for 3 days with no effect whatsoever, then I got the tip off.
Snorkeling from the beach at the hotel's brilliant, you have to do it. All in all it's a very good hotel with fantastic rooms and fantastic room attendants (clean bed linen daily). Got four great pools (No2's the better of the two larger ones unless you like din, and No3's the better of the two smaller ones for the same reason). Everyone told us beforehand it's best to tip everyone as soon as you get there, but we didn't as I don't tip until after I've had the service, and we got it all the same. Just remember not to take all your worldly goods to dinner in your trouser pockets, use the free room safety deposit box!

Good all round relaxing holiday, very hot weather, clean and friendly hotel. Nice rooms with fridges, satellite tv and aircon. Shared facilities with sister hotel gave more options. Great pool area and lots of choice in buffet restaurant.
The BBQ and Italian restaurant were both well worth a visit and inc in AI package. The few alcoholic drinks were strong and all tasted similar. Lager good and cold water readily available. Evening entertainment not too appealing. The regular singer "killed" many of our favourite songs. (couple both aged 25)

Aug 2006, Mrs M Chambers

Excellent weather as expected-good air con in bedrooms rooms and hotel. Shower a bit iffy- red hot or cold. Good satellite TV reception. Every inch of hotel and grounds spotless. Good choice of food.
The Italian and barbeque restaurant free on site worth a visit. Alcoholic drinks a bit samey- all pops very sweet but lager and cold water on tap, excellent. Shuttle bus to beach great and well worth going-it really runs every 10 mins all day, snorkeling and diving to die for- comfy sun beds, towels and umbrellas free to use down on the beach.
Luxor/Cairo for the historical sites and museums and Sharm to relax and swim in what can only be described as a very posh persons aquarium. Not to be missed! A week away-perfect.

Jul 2006, Mrs J Edwards

What can I say, obviously the other people who went to this resort in June were oblivious to the fact that there is building work at the resort! And maybe they didn’t have small children, the children’s pool was shut and pool.
There is no beach as such for children to play on and at least a 3 foot drop into coral. The food is repetitive same meat different sauce! Same with veg and potatoes. The Russians are extremely arrogant and rude. The hotel is very well catered towards them! The lift doesn’t work no good if you have babies in pushchairs.
The alcohol is dire. There are diggers and other machinery making an atrocious noise on the beach next to the hotels beach. The only good thing about this resort are the wonderful people who work there. Am still fighting to get some form of compensation, as I definitely would not have paid to take my children on holiday, where there is no pool for there use as advertised, or a beach as advertised in their brochure!

Jul 2006, Miss E.h Harris

I may only be 16 but for my first time visiting Egypt it was amazing! I know that everyone will come across my comment and think that I am talking a load of rubbish because I am a 16 year old girl but believe me I couldn’t have asked for a better holiday. I went with my family to the sunrise island view for a relaxing holiday after finishing all my exams and a relaxing holiday is what we got.
The staff were very polite and helpful to all the guests and really made us feel welcome. There was a kids club, and entertainment throughout the day for us kid so the parents could have a bit of peace and quiet.
The rooms were very clean as they got cleaned every day and the maid would bring us two bottles of water and put them in our fridge everyday.
I honestly thought that the rooms would be dirty and that I wouldn’t have a relaxing holiday but I did.
We will be returning back to the sunrise island view next year as we had the time of our lives!

Jul 2006, Mr D Stuart

Firstly to all the people that moan about it not being a 5* hotel, sure it wouldn't pass as a 5* hotel in the UK but it is just about as good as your going to get in Egypt + it is only described as 4* hotel by Thomas Cook which is about right.
The rooms are comfortable with a two good air conditioners and a nice choice of channels on the TV. The junior suites come with 2 balconies and a separate sitting area. We had requested a sea view and got the most fantastic view from our main balcony. One slight downside to this is the time it takes to get to the main restaurant, the place is huge, but it is a nice walk through the meticulously maintained gardens. Our room cleaner was efficient and polite and always left the room spotless along with lots of extra bottles of water in the fridge.
The hotel is the only one in Egypt to have a Thomas Cook animation team, who are there until November. The four of them are fantastic, down at pool 4 for several hours a day doing water basketball, darts etc. And then performing in the amphitheatre in the evening, all of them can both sing and dance so the shows were well worth watching. Take them some copies of heat and they will thank you forever. You do need to get up early to get a bed though beside any of the pools. One slight annoyance is that you are constantly pestered through the day by salesman, either pretend to be asleep or say you are going home tomorrow.
After falling down the stairs I found the onsite medical centre to be very good, the doctor came within 15 minutes and his assistant took me to the hospital, then came round to my room every day to check I was ok.
Some of the other staff are slightly rude, you have to wait a while to get drinks at the restaurant. A few well placed tips sorts this out.
As for the food, there’s lots of it and the quality is not bad, but after a while you will get bored. There is always beef in a sauce that repeats every few days etc. The beach bar is good for afternoon snacks and you can get ice creams by pool 4 for a few hours a day. There are also 2 al a carte restaurants that are easy to get into, you just need to book a day in advance, also they have a strict trousers policy in these restaurants. The drinks were good, with branded soft drinks from a bottle available all day. The beer was also nice, however it was always hit and miss with the cocktails as sometimes they would put ¾’s of a glass of vodka in.
Although many people have said how good the local blue and white taxis are I would advise everyone to be cautious. On my way to the hospital I saw a big accident between three taxis, because of their age, lack of repair and seatbelts the people being brought into the hospital when I was waiting were in a bad state. We had one experience where the driver was on the phone and smoking, whilst doing over 80mphs approaching a bend. You are better off getting a hotel taxi or the bus.
There were not that many Russians staying at the hotel, with the Brits being by far the most common, it is true that they can’t queue. But the hotel staff on the whole dislike the Russians so you will find that they soon tell them to get to the back of the queue.
Well worth a visit.
