Arrived at the hotel Perelik after a four hour coach journey from the airport. Were greeted by the porters who took our bags up to our rooms, and then wouldnt get out of our rooms until they got a tip. which was very intimidating for the woman in our party. At reception... more

Myself, husband Kev and two children aged 11 and 9 had never experienced a skiing holiday before (although I had been aged 15). The drive on the mini bus from the airport - (3/4 hours) was horrendous and when we arrived, there did not seem like there was much snow around. ... more

Stayed at the Perelik Hotel for xmas and new year.,great hotel, great staff, everything under the one roof and the only thing you have to go outside for is the skiing!
Ski bus stops outside and only a short journey to the ski lifts. All round great and will go back again in 2008.

We got back from skiing last week in Pamporovo. The snow was ok for the Sunday and the Monday, although none had fallen in a few days. On Tuesday it started to thaw out and by Tuesday night it had snowed again so I suppose we were pretty lucky that we had some snow to... more

New Year at The Perelik, Pamporovo, Bulgaria
Absolutely fantastic. Our first time skiing and it was amazing. Hotel is great. Heard lot's of poor reviews prior to travelling and felt these were completely unfair. The hotel was brilliant, the rooms are basic but if you're expecting 5* luxury pay 5* prices!!! Food isn't the Hilton either but always found plenty to eat and the kids loved it. Staff were so helpful and friendly especially Danny in the restaurant. Really was a great guy. The ski-ing was great. As a beginner I had no idea what to expect but we were all able to do the drag lift bottom slope at ski school 2 by the end of the first day. Ski instructors know what they're talking about so trust them to make the right judgement regarding what you are ready for. We could all come down a slope full pelt but it's their job to make sure you stay safe. Pamporovo is beautiful and everything you'd want from a snowy resort. Looked just like a picture postcard. New Year at the hotel was fantastic. If you're with your family then don't bother with the rep's organised trip to The White Hart. Heard really bad reports about this. We stayed at the Hotel and were so shocked to find a 6 course meal, dancers, band, magician, Santa, free wine, soft drinks and champagne at midnight. It was all free and it was the best New Year we've had. Will never stay in England for New Year again. The only thing I will say is, if you've got children, don't sign up for the Plovdiv trip on your leaving day. It's a really long day and it's absolutely freezing with not much more to do than look around the shops. You're better off either paying to keep your room or leaving luggage in store room and going ice skating and swimming.
Fine
It's a good hotel, big as well with lots of facilities - a cafe, bar, health spa, sauna and pool. The room was massive, and clean with cable tv (local and English). The food was good (for budget) and varied - the buffet had a range of international and local, something for everyone. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only slight thing was that a couple of times the water could have been a bit hotter. Overall certainly recommended.
Hotel Perelik was fine
Never having skiied before, we chose Bulgaria and the Hotel Perelik because it seemed to offer good value for money for first timers. Ski hire and equipment storage was well-organised and saved us the bother of having to transport skis and boots to and from the hotel each day. A big advantage of the Perelik is that it's the first stop on the ski bus route, so there was always plenty of space on the bus to accommodate our large party (13 of us). Pamporovo was a bit short on snow which meant some of the slopes were very icy - not so good when you're learning to snowplough - but skiing at the top of the mountain was fun. Our instructor Sdravko was lovely and looked after us really well, and we were all skiing successfully after only a couple of days. We'd heard terrible reports about the Perelik before we went, but we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms used by Crystal were newly refurbished and, although simply furnished, were very warm, clean and adequate. You do need to take your own hairdryer and we wished we'd taken a travel kettle too. The food in the main restaurant wasn't haute cuisine, but we always found something suitable to eat (even for a load of fussy kids) and there was always soup and a nice salad bar if you didn't like the hot choices. All the hotel and restaurant staff were always polite and helpful and they responded well when we tried to speak a few words of Bulgarian to them. Dovizhdane!
Great hotel, resort good if you get snow
We have just returned form Hotel Perelik. Our second trip to Pamporovo, we found the Perelik way better than last year's choice, the Elina. Everyone moans about the food and the Elina food was awful last year, so we were pleasantly surprised to find the Perelik food fine. A bit like a good canteen. Never warm enough but there was a microwave you could heat up in which most people did not seem to notice. Plenty of choice. Other restaurants are good if you want a change. Staff really nice, rooms basic but clean, new towels each day, Bring your hairdryer! Pool lovely, massages good value, bowling and games rooms great for the kids. Internet access in bar. Hotel lovely and warm. Snow was not great this year so by the end of the week Pamporovo looked tacky instead of pretty as it had done last year when covered with snow. Queues for lifts bad (unlike last year) - I think there are too many property developments and the resort may not be able to sustain the numbers they are getting. But - we had a super time and will go back if guaranteed snow. Apparently ryanair flying there from Dublin soon. We got friendly with our rep who said she can organise our transfer and hotel much cheaper than the agency she works for!!! All Bulgarians think we are millionaires and are out to make a buck, but they are so nice you don't really mind. Ski instructors Dinko and Peter really good and patient - they were both on the Bulgarian national team and now have to cope with beginners like us!
Thumbs up for the Perelik
Returned from Pamporovo on 18th Feb after our first family skiing holiday. We chose Bulgaria for the same reason as most of the people we spoke to in our hotel, the Perelik, PRICE. Flick through any brochure and you will find Bulgaria is budget skiing! We expected very little snow and long days with nothing to do in a run down hotel. What a surprise we got. The skiing was great, more snow would of made things easier for our first days of learning but we tried not to let that hold us back, the children found it easy and Ivan our instructor was a star. The hotel had everything our family could of asked for. The food was not fantastic but not once did we consider eating elseware. The rooms were clean, warm and plenty big enough and the hotel facilities were ideal. We would return to the same hotel again, I just hope if we do, we meet as nice a crowd of people.
I'd recommend the Perelik to anyone!
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at The Perelik. There are so many bars, the service was great, the atmosphere was really nice and the location was perfect. As it says in other reviews, the food is not great. Everything is just about warm and the chicken was always pink in the middle. But I think that it's like that across the whole of Bulgaria, not just at the Perelik! We found the waiting staff really helpful and friendly. The rooms were spotless and the maid came in every day and changed the towels. I'd steer clear of the lifts though. We got stuck on more than one occasion! 2 friends who came with us had previously stayed at The Hotel Pamporovo and they said that they thought The Perelik was much, much better even though there are 2 stars seperating them! I'd definitely recommend The Perelik and would go back myself!
my ski trip to pamporovo
hotel perelik, pamporovo, have recently returned from a great skiing holiday in pamporovo{went on the 20/01/07}. the hotel was a lot better than i expected, quite modern with lots of bars, swimming pool, sauna, bowling alleyetc. the rooms were fine clean and the maids came every day. the food was okay better than i had been led to believe, the only gripe was that they cannot seem to keep it hot ,sometimes it was cold. the tea and coffee was always lukewarm but my kids could always find something they liked. they had chips, pizza and there chicken and beef casseroles were lovely. the ski school was good, the first day is a bit hectic and tiring as you have to get kitted out with your skis and boots but after that you keep the same equipment for the rest of the holiday. take plenty of ski socks,i took 3 pairs and it was not enough as the skis you borrow make your socks stink, also wear a really old pair of trainers or preferably boots as the bottom slopes where you get your skis from were really slushy and our trainers were soaked. remember to take plenty of plasters as we did not and had to keep buying them. the boots do rub a bit and i had a few blisters but if you put plenty of plasters on you should be okay. the second day is better because you go up the mountain on the chairlifts and ski up there which is much better. there was 12 in our group and we had alot of fun. we all got a certificate on our last night at a evening they put on for you. we had one day when we could not ski due to high winds which was disapointing but we would all go back again, it is a cheap holiday and good for beginners like us,whed i went i had never been near a pair of skis , now i can say i can actually ski! take some lev with you as the coach stops of at toilets on the way to the hotel and you have to pay to go to the loo. our hotel, the perelik had one of the best exchange rates so i would change my money there. ttry and spend all your lev as the rate here to change it back is not very good. there are not many shops in pamporovo to buy gifts we ended up buying ours at the airport to try and get rid of our levs. i hope this review has helped . i am definatley going skiing next year.
food was no good
just got back from pamporovo! having used this website alot to choose where to stay i thought i would give my views on the hotel perelik. the hotel is in the best location, the public areas are ok, plenty to do for the children, bowling, pool tables, games room, swimming, the food in the buffet is terrible, we ate out at night. we had anice meal in the italian 1 night but the next time the waiter was very rude to 1 of the children in our party,(there was 8 of us) after speaking to the manager he dealt with the problem. we also ate in the white house, which was very nice. but the best place to eat was the white hart. the food was quiite cheap and in daks the irish bar between 10 &12 it was happy hour, and we always had a good time! this was our 1st time skiing and we really enjoyed it! we had lessons, richi was our instructor and she was really good! i would go back to pamporovo but not to the perelik! the some of the staff were rude! the rooms was dead basic! no hairdryer like it said in the brochure! the sister hotel orvolets looks like the place to stay!
The rooms are nice BUT
The rooms were a pleasant surprise, clean, comfortable and spacious.Nice bathroom, plenty of hot water. BUT....... The hotel is a good 10 minute busride from the skislope, the bus does NOT (as advertised) stop 'outside the hotel' but nearby and it only runs when it feels like it. And the Bulgarian/Russian skiers will crush you to death if you try to get on it. The food is poor. The best I can say is, on the half board arrangement, we always managed to find something we could eat. Just. The water for tea is luke warm, the coffee in the urn is watered down bootpolish. if they dont run out of plates they run out of glasses. The local wine (£1 a bottle in supermarket) is marked up on the restaurant winelist by 800 - 900% as they have a captive audience. The RoomService menu looks good but when you ring to order it they just say 'No!' The mini bar is ok, but 2 days before you check out they suddenly (without warning) lock it and hide the key. The disco pounds out repetitive ,deafening music every night until 4.30 am. IF you havent already booked, think again. Do NOT choose Pamporovo. The skilifts dont work and are unsafe, (we were stuck on one, freezing and scared, for almost an hour) The queues to get to the top can easily run to 45/50 minutes, they have no idea how to maintain a piste and the whole infrastructure is not geared to cope with the volume of visitors or normal European standards. And dont believe what you hear about how cheap it is - they have realised they can bump their prices up to whatever they like for 'westerners' and in terms of value for money, it IS NOT!!!! Hotel Perelik??? I dont think so!!!
Brilliant
This was our first time in Bulgaria and it was an excellent experience. We got a last minute deal for the Hotel Perelik and so for the price were wondering what we would get. Very surprised and very pleased. The hotel is, for a 3 star, very nice. Large reception with bars and shops leading off it, staff helpful although a some may feel they were standoffish however I believe this is due to English not being their first language. English bar with sky sports, bowling bar, mountain views, pool bar, Pizza restaurant, swimming pool etc the list goes on. A little walk way to the next door hotel, through some shops, is pleasant and keeps the cold at bay. Bulgaria is a poor country and it shows in the surrounding villages and towns, but the hotels can't do enough for you. Food was ok, not brilliant but that is because we have a different view on food than the Bulgarian's. They like their food lukewarm, but the choices were many and even for a picky eater like myself I always found something I could eat. Husband loved it and though all the choices were great. Hotel rooms were clean and well maintained although looking a little worn in places, it wasn't a problem as we were hardly in there. A little cold on some days and the bedding is a sheet and a woollen blanket, which for the duvet queen that I am this was not enough for me. Room was a little small but it was more than enough for getting changed and sleeping in. Twin beds, dressing table with mirror, fridge with mini bar, TV, bedside cabinets, room and individual bed lights, wardrobe, balcony and bathroom with shower (which was very clean and pleasant. You get allocated your boots and skis at the resort which then keep them there overnight so there is no lugging around of equipment. I thought having to catch a bus to the slopes would be a pain but it wasn’t a problem at all, buses run constantly and although sometimes get full we never had a problem. We had ski school and Angel, our instructor, spoke only broken English but he was fun and pushed us past our comfort level but not too much so. Enough to get better which I wouldn't have done on my own. Lifts get very crowded at 10am when the school starts as about 80% of the people there are in a class. The green run from the top of the mountain is lovely however narrow and when it gets crowded it can be slow and congested, especially at the very top of the mountain. Main lift is 2144 meters long and takes about 15 mins to get to the top of the mountain where the views are breathtaking. The Blue run to the right of the top of the first lift is a snowboarders paradise and they like to sit in the middle of the slope which is a pain. Lovely run though but the lift back up is a button lift - didn't like that one at all! Especially after falling off it with a right bang but as there is no other way back up….. Half way down are restaurants and each day we stopped at The Brothers. If you go in a class your instructor will probably take you to his/her favourite. Brothers is excellent, food quality is very good and cheap. Not sure how the Euro will effect it though. The pizza is to die for as are their ham and cheese toasties. Nice people too. We were lucky with the weather in one respect as it was warm sun every day no clouds. Problem though was there was also no new snow fall and this caused some of the runs to start to get some ice patches which for a novice like me are a little scary. If you want challenging go on the wall, I wasn't even able to look down the run it was so steep! Chicken run look fun but not for me, hubby did it and loved it! There is a limited amount of runs in comparison to some other resorts and some experienced skiers may find it limited but for a beginner like me and an intermediate like my other half it was perfect. Lots to do for everyone even those who don’t ski. We met a lot of great people most of whom had been before and we have already booked to go back next year! Resort Highly recommended. However if you do go then you must flight into Plodiv which is a 2 hour transfer - if you go to Sofya then it is a 4 hour transfer.
