Myself, husband Kev and two children aged 11 and 9 had never experienced a skiing holiday before (although I had been aged 15).
The drive on the mini bus from the airport - (3/4 hours) was horrendous and when we arrived, there did not seem like there was much snow around. When we eventually arrived at our hotel, I wish we had been warned about the staff who expect to be tipped at every whim. We had 4 porters surround us late at night looking for tips but luckily they take english money.
Our room which I appreciated in the morning had a balcony and a beautiful view of the mountains. Everything got better from there on. The staff were so helpful, food great and so much choice, although the bulgarians do not eat their food so hot as we do. Drinks are cheap and they are so friendly/helpful and won't even let you carry your drinks back to the table.
The ski instructor Joy was fantastic, we went out for two hours in the morning and she had always booked us an alpine lodge for lunch in advance for an hour then back to skiing for two hours then your day was free. Everyone was so friendly. The locals try to sell you Souvenir bells, they are so cheap and we bought some to keep them happy and still have them at home as reminders - remember that is their livelihood and not much money.
The hotel was great - so much to do and it snowed on our third day - we had a great time here - I hope you do too!!!!

Stayed at the Perelik Hotel for xmas and new year.,great hotel, great staff, everything under the one roof and the only thing you have to go outside for is the skiing!
Ski bus stops outside and only a short journey to the ski lifts. All round great and will go back again in 2008.

We got back from skiing last week in Pamporovo.
The snow was ok for the Sunday and the Monday, although none had fallen in a few days. On Tuesday it started to thaw out and by Tuesday night it had snowed again so I suppose we were pretty lucky that we had some snow to thrash around in.
I think Pamporovo resort has gone one step too far in pushing up it's prices since last year. They might just have priced themselves out of the market.
The food in the hotel wasn't of great standard and it didn''t help that when you hopped in the shower that the shower curtain was a foot from the floor so water went everywhere. We had to mop this up with the spare towels.
I checked with my friends who went and their rooms were the very same. Maybe they could splash out and buy some proper shower doors or even a curtain that reaches the shower tray.
The ski resort itself needs a bit of finishing off, we had to queue on average 20 minutes fro any of the lifts. On the Thursday morning it took 2 hours to get the main lift working and the queue was massive fro that. I was lucky cos I was at the front but I'd say anyone near the back would have had to wait over an hour to get up once.
Then on Friday the main lift 5 was broke down for the whole day and the queues at the other lifts only got worse. There was only 1 green slope and it was very narrow which made it hard to avoid slower skiers.
Oh yeah, if you do find yourself in the unfortunate case of having to get a taxi then they charge even better than at home, around 18 levs for a 2 mile journey, a pure rip off.
I don't think I'll be recommending this resort to any of my friends as there seems to be a lot more hotels and apartments being built and I doubt if the ski infrastructure will be able to cope with the people, so the queues will be even longer next year if people decide to put their money forward.
The Airport in Plovdiv is tiny aswell and there are very few facilities here when your flight is delayed, we had to queue for over 30 minutes to get something from the shop. Somehow I think Bulgarians must like queuing.
I was talking to people who were in Pamporovo in 2006 and they said that everything was very cheap there but this wasn't the case. The drinks were nearly the same price as at home.
We went into the little town on Smoylan on our last day there and discovered that you could get a drink (pint of Tuborg) in there for around 2 levs (€1) which was twice as cheap as the resort of Pamporovo.
Altogether I was disappointed with Pamporovo and Bulgaria and wouldn't advise anyone to go there unless you like being ripped off. You're probably better off paying a little bit extra for Austria or France and avoiding the queues.

Arrived at the hotel Perelik after a four hour coach journey from the airport.
Were greeted by the porters who took our bags up to our rooms, and then wouldnt get out of our rooms until they got a tip. which was very intimidating for the woman in our party.
At reception we were given a plastic bag with a smelly ham and cheese roll in and a orange. This was our dinner.
The rooms were too basic. In my room I didnt have a wardrobe, so literally nowhere to put clothes so had to live out of suitcase all week.
The balconys were dangerous, the tiles were cracked and the barrier was broken. The whole balcony was slanted and wonky. The bath leaked and i got a total of three warmish showers in the whole week, which is awful considering i was having two showers a day.
The food was terrible! Everyone in our party got ill from it at least once in the week. We didnt get one hot meal. From day three we decided to eat out, but we soon realised it was either eat bad food in the hotel for free or eat bad food and pay a lot of money for it. The only difference was at least it was hot.
We nicknamed the hotel 'hotel derelict' as most of it is abandomed. All the lovely pictures of the facilities no longer exist. The hairdressers, shops, a club and the whole back of the hotel were unused.
The people in bulgaria are so rude! particulary the hotel staff. I didnt see a smile from any of them once all week.
The sheffs smoke in the kitchen!!!. The whole hotel is smokey, even the smokers in our party found it discusting. The 'club' in the hotel was empty but still played loud music, so it was impossible to sleep.
The beds were horrible, i suggest if your still planning on going to take a pillow and sleeping bag.
I dont know how any travel agents or companys in england could send anyone to this hotel! The only nice thing of the hotel was the lift!
I felt unsafe on my own, and i took all my valuables with me everywhere. Even on the slopes!
Inghams should send out a health and safety check on the hotel. Im sure tha if they did they would stop sending people there.
The whole hotel needs a refurbishment. And new staff that know how to smile or be polite. One day i went to the reception to ask for money to be changed up and the woman said 'WAIT' in a very loud voice. I had to wait ten minutes for her to finish chatting with her fellow staff and then make a phone call and then finally turn to me and say 'WHAT?'. It was very intimidating.
The only thing that made the holiday ok was the people i was with.
The holiday was not worth the money. I wouldnt go back even if they said it was free.
Lastly, the hotel smelt or should i say stunk of faeces everywhere it was discusting.
Theres so much else bad points i could say, just dont go!!
