Residencial Riviera

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Residencial Riviera and would gladly return there. The rooms vary in size; we had a pretty large room but we saw some smaller doubles. The entryway and rooms are quite beautiful: typical Portuguese tiles, white paint, and arched masonry ceilings. Rooms have cable TV, phone, minibar. No hairdryers in the bathroom, but the front desk lent us one. Breakfast is mediocre (canned fruit, white bread, one or two kinds of cereal). Ask for Room 211 - it costs 5 euros extra but for that you get a lovely large room about 25 sq m (250 sq ft) overlooking the interesting pedestrianised street that comes up from the main square. We got a 5 eueo per night 'Senior discount' and liked it so much we stayed for 8 nights. (It was better than the Pousada which costs twice as much.) Raul at the desk wqas extremely helpful - he even got us some tickets for a Fado concert and sorted out a parrking fine for us!

Family of 5 travelling at Easter (March 2005), we found this via the Turismo service in the main square. The rooms were bright, well furnished and very clean. The staff were helpful (and hardworking - the reception manager the day we arrived was exhausting to watch). The location is excellent and price a reasonable 40 euros per room. This was our favourite place to stay in Portugal. The breakfast buffet is basic but perfectly adequate. I stayed here with my boyfriend during a very hot August 2003 and we loved it. The room was bright, clean, airy and a good size with a big, spotless bathroom. The room and the hotel generally were tastefully decorated and breakfast was good. The service was very professional and polite and overall I thought this place had a more expensive feel than the price bracket warranted. I would highly recommend the Riviera if you are looking for somewhere to stay in magical Evora.
