Hostal Levante Delivers
In March 2005 we rented one of the apartments at the Hostal Levante for three nights and found it to be very charming (although the doorways were small and since I'm tall I had to duck). However, the rooms were cleaned everyday and we had fresh towels. We rented the apartment for four, and there were three bedrooms, one bedroom had three beds in it, and the kitchen had a washing machine. It was nice to come in after a long day and be able to sit in the living/dining room while making our plans for the evening. And we had no noise.... more
Fantastic Location for a Great Price
Stayed here with two girlfriends at the end of November and had an excellant experience. The location is fantastic, a five minute walk from La Rambla, The Barcelona Catherdral, the Musee Picasso, as well as great shopping and tons of bars and restaurants. The hostal staff was very friendly and our room was made up each day with fresh towels. Pay the extra 5 Euros or so for a room with a bathroom (very clean) and you will feel like you are staying in a modest, budget hotel. The only downside is the noise, but when you are in a... more
Awful!
Hostal Levante was the ultimate disappointment of our trip to Spain. We stayed five nights (but only because we couldn't find another hotel after the first night). Our room was never cleaned -- we had only one waste basket and it was overflowing -- and the noise from the interior and exterior was deafening. There was only one wall light, making the already dirty room seem even darker and dingier, and there was no television or telephone, as promised in the guide books. The elevator was tiny and functioned poorly. The "staff" was curt... more
Comfortable but noisy
My friend and I stayed in Levante in April 2003. We had a twin room with own bathroom and a tiny balcony. The hostel is right in the centre of the city, minutes away from Las Ramblas. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was good, but the noise from the street we overlooked was extrememly noisy. There was work being done there and old tin walkways were being jumped on all through the night. I think we paid E70 for the room. All in all, OK, but you may want to check out the room and see whether it overlooks a noisy avenue!
Good value for money, but not in the summer!
Pros: Fantastic location in the heart of the old city with lots of restaurants, shops, bars and historical sites at your doorstep... and about 20 minute walk from the beach. Also, low price for a basic but clean room (however the staff did not clean the room for the 2 nights we were there for). Cons: The room was too hot, almost unbearable. There were hot pipes running inside the wall radiating heat all the time... does not help when it's also 33C and quite humid outside! We chose a back room to avoid noise from the street, so not... more
not for claustrophobics...
We were extremely disappointed with Hostal Levante - after requesting a double with balcony well in advance of our trip, we were given a tiny room with a small window overlooking the bottom of a lightwell - we were forced to open the door to our apartment for air! Don't make the same mistake we did - if you must stay here, make sure you get 100% confirmation of a room on the first or second floors first...avoid level 3 and especially 318!
Earplugs required!
Luckily I had consulted Tripadvisor before travelling to Barcelona. Hostal Levante was the only place that had availability for a Saturday night earlier this month - having read some of these earlier reviews I wasn't surprised why! Fortunately I took heed of the advice about bringing earplugs and being totally exhausted before going to bed as this is really the only way to get some sleep, especially, if like us, you get put in a room next to the communal toilets. As I had not expected much from Hostal Levante from these reviews I had... more
