" excellent all round "

we visited the resort from 7-14 march 2009.(myself and 13 yr old daughter)the hotel was fantastic, the room was very clean and spacious and the staff could not have been better. the food was very tasty and plentiful. the only downside was that we had to purchase drinks at dinner time. this was quite costly ,double the price of the exact same item in the local supermarket!.apart from that small thing we had no complaints. the hotel is next to the chair lift and the slopes are immediately accessible, the hotel has a ski storage room so we didn't have to carry our equipment very far.10M max!the resort itself was very clean and tidy.there was plenty of snow everywhere so it was like a winter wonderland, the local people were all friendly and the supermarket was sufficient for any extras we needed.
the ski slopes are very well spread out,but don't go by the 'piste map' a couple of the blue runs were in fact partially red at the tops which we found very worrying as we were beginners and hadn't learned enough to cope with them on our first day!there were plenty of instructors available and various childrens clubs etc
there were plenty of extra activities to join in like dog sledging and day trips but they cost extra. 65€ per adult to visit Venice (plus extra for the water taxi) but a lovely day.
there was night skiing available 6 out of 7 evenings and for those who just like to sit and watch there was plenty of seating at the 'snow beach' where there were hot and cold drinks and snacks . we did purchase our day drinks at the shop and left them in a back pack as the 'beach bars' cost a fortune 4 bottles of fanta for 8€!!!!if you can manage with a bag on your back it is worth it.
the neighbouring resort of Podkoren is accessible via the pistes and the lift pass includes this area. you can get a lot of skiing from Kranjska Gora . we would difinitely like to return with the rest of the family

Advice: go there you

Activities: we just enjoyed meeting the locals and strolling around the town, Venice was good i

" Superb "

My partner, myself and our 8 month old son visited here for the first time in January 2009. I had never skied before but my partner had on several occassions. Firstly, the creche facilities were superb. Our son spent every day in there and they also had three evening sessions which we took advantage of as our son was obviously being well cared for. We did night skiing and had a couple of evenings to ourselves.
The hotel was lovely and warm and comfortable. Everyone was so friendly.
The food was really very good and a different choice each night. The breakfasts were good also. Bere in mind though, we were not in England so the full english wasnt like what we would have but it was great none the less!
I would strongly recommend this hotel for families with children. The skiing is right outside the door! Everything is to hand, shops, chemist, ski hire. Really cant fault this hotel! Well done First Choice!
PS: Try out the husky driving!!! An amazing experience.

Advice: Very pretty place

Activities: Husky mushing

" Skiing at the Alpina "

Having read quite a few mixed reviews on here and as we normally ski in Chamonix we were very wary of our first visit to Kransjka Gora. We arrived late in the afternoon to spectacular views of slopes plentiful with snow. The transfer is 3 hours from Salzburg but its not actually too bad as there is a stop half way at a lovely Tirolean service station.
The hotel Alpina is situated literally right on the slopes along side a lovely blue run and man made igloo! Our room was right at the back so we heard no bells from the nearby church! The rooms are comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean. The chambermaids cleaned and tidied rooms every single day even changing towels. The hotel itself is extremely warm so be prepared to relax in t shirts. Food is served in a large dining room where you help yourself at the buffet. The food is superb with plenty to choose from including soups, salads, pastas, and hot dishes (usually Pork!). Breakfast is the same set up with cereals, croissants and hot food. The Kids Academy is set up well and our son did participate in a couple of day and night activities. Hotel staff spoke good english and they were very helpful and friendly.
The ski school is brilliant although hectic on the first day when trying to find your group and instructors. The last day is fantastic where all the groups come together at a mini slalom race. Later on that day there is a presentation where you collect 'medals' and a diploma from your instructor along with photos of your group (5 €). The skiing here is brilliant with ski to door from the Alpina and you can get right across the resort by using the button and chair lifts to some superb runs.
The only couple of things (and they are minor) is that there are no kettles in the rooms to make yourself hot drinks. When having dinner you do not get any water with your meal or complementary wine/tea/coffee. The locals were actually not that friendly from lift attendants to supermarket checkout assistants. We took our own ski boots (which we were really grateful for) because the ski hire equipment from one particular shop is dire! Soft drinks were slightly pricy @ 2 € 10 for a Sprite.
We met some lovely families and couples on this holiday who also spoke very highly of this hotel and resort. We had a fantastic amount of snow but the resort is low so as quick as it comes it could go.
This would certainly NOT put us off going to Kransjka Gora again and we would absolutely most definitely stay at the Alpina again

Advice: Take photos for your lift passes.

Activities: You must visit the Pizzeria!

" Great time at the Alpina "

Just returned this afternoon from a great weeks skiing at the Hotel Alpina.
Arrived at the Hotel around lunchtime to be met by a huge amount of snow. Check-in was easy and we were soon off into town to collect the kids skis etc and to have a quick explore of the town.
Our room was large, comfortable and spotless. Plenty of storage space and places to dry wet ski clobber! Hotel in general was very warm which meant having to sleep with the windows open. This does mean getting woken up at 7:00 every morning by the church bells!!
The food was varied and of good quality with something for everyone...apart from maybe the most fussy of eaters !
The Hotel is situated right on the edge of the main Blue run which is used by the beginners ski schools - so after a couple of days you can ski down to meet your instructor...until then you can walk down the piste which only takes a minute or two.
The location of the Hotel also means that we could easily go sledging with the kids when the pistes closed at 16:00. This really was great fun, and a good change from skiing.....but remember to steer well clear of the piste bashers.
The kids were booked into beginners ski school, which didn't start until midday on the first day (Sunday)....very frustrating as we all wanted to get started first thing in the morning, but figured it best to wait for the expert tuition ! Tuition started at 09:00 every day after that.
We had a couple of dodgy days 'weather-wise', and so decided to put the kids into kids club for the afternoon. They seemed to really enjoy it, and the reps made sure they were always busy and having fun. We did not pre-book this so each afternoon session did end up costing us £10 per child, they also did one evening session (playstation night) at a cost of £11 each, so please take this into consideration, maybe worth booking this before you go as does work out cheaper!!
The drinks (and food) in the resort were expensive - a vodka and coke will set you back £5, beer £2.50 and a glass of wine £2.50. A burger and a bottle of coke for lunch was £7.50. We recommend a trip to the supermarket to stock up on supplies - 'Union' beer 75p for a pint bottle and a bottle of wine starts at £2.50.
One thing to remember - you will each need a photo for the lift pass.
All in all, I'd highly recommend Kranjska Gora for a brilliant family ski holiday. We met some great people in the Hotel Alpina, and are sad to be home.

" We have just returned home today... "

We have just returned home today after a week in this beautiful ski village. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff very pleasant. It was was always well heated and cosy. We are a family of four, my son and I are vegetarian we did get a little fed up with salad after the first couple of days, however, on the third day the food started to improve and we were able to enjoy savoury vegetable rice and a pasta and sauce. One evening a member of staff overheard me saying we were veggies and she offered to cook some quorn rissoles. The free use of the swimming pool in the Larix was most welcome after a day skiing. Two small complaints, only one pillow provided for each person (I kept intending to ask for more) and no tea and coffee facilities in the room. The hotel is very convenient to the slopes and was ideal for a first skiing holiday. We will certainly be coming back next year as the village was very picturesque, skiing good and the Slovenian people absolutely lovely. I have really fallen in love with the country.

" We have recently returned from a... "

We have recently returned from a weeks skiing in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, the country is absolutely beautiful and the resort offers the feel of a traditional village even though there are vast numbers of tourists hurtling down the slopes.

We stayed in the Hotel Alpina which was spotlessly clean, very comfortable with spacious rooms and good amenities offered both on site and in the hotel's sister hotels; The Larix and Kompas further down the slopes.

The location is ideal, when you come out of the ski locker room all you need do is shuffle forwards 10 metres and you are inches away from a lovely calm slope to ski down to the drag lifts.

The only slight negative point about the Hotel was the evening meal, it became rather repetitive after a couple of days. However, everything is well cooked and there is a reasonable variety including soups and salads. The desserts leave a lot to be desired as they seem to be mainly packet mix cakes, but there is always lots of fresh fruit available which makes up for this.

The hotel kids club is nice and friendly and the lady that runs it speaks good English, and even though it states that the club is for children over 4 years old they were more than happy to let our 20 month old girls in to play on the big equipment.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone, the hotel is designed with families in mind and there are always large quantities of children running around, so, if kids annoy you then maybe elsewhere would be more suitable!
