Grand Hotel Toplice

We have just returned from a week in lake bled staying at the Grand Hotel Toplice and it was wonderful.We had a lakeside room and the view was simply stunning.To wake up in the morning and throw open the french doors and see that view was just the best feeling.The room was clean and furnished in slovenian style and the bed was really comfortable and spacious.My only slight moan was there was no tea/coffeee making facilities but i guess that is a brit thing! . We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our summer touring holiday. Seemed to be a significant number of people making return trips mainly English and some German. When we were there the majority of the guests seemed to be from the UK. might not what you expect when travelling so far didn’t bother me personally. We have just returned from a two week stay at the Grand Hotel Toplice and found it to be average. We actually got married during our stay in Bled so upgraded our room to ensure we got all that we wanted. The room was basic and definately not big. We had a two single beds pushed together (normal in Europe) and a few other bits of furniture. The bathroom was tiny with the door always getting in the way. As they say in the real estate business, location is everything. On the outside, Grand Hotel Toplice has a fantastic location in Bled, overlooking the lake, the church, the castle. Inside, though, beware of what location your room has! There are definitely two types of rooms at the Toplice. Those with a lakeside room have gorgeous views with balconies and, of critical importance in summer months, air conditioning. As all the reviews indicate, Bled itself is stunning -- the Julian Alps form a scenic backdrop to the beautiful lake with its turquoise green waters. The hotel is located on the shores of the lake. We had both a lakeside and inside room -- the lakeside rooms are well worth the extra money. While others have complained, we did not notice substantial noise from the road that ran underneath the inside room. This was our first time in Bled, and i have to say it was stunning .The views are breathtaking lake was so calm as was the area around it.We were looking for a peaceful holiday and this is exactly what we got. The area of Lake Bled is the most stunning and romantic place you could ever imagine. We stayed at the Toplice over Christmas and New Year last year and would certainly return. The main problem you may find, if like us, you are in Slovenia for a skiing holiday, then it is quite a long (and windy) bus ride every day to get to the slopes. We stayed 6 nights in this hotel. The location and views are stunning. We had a lovely big room with 2 balconies. The furniture and decoration are delightfully grand and in very good condition. Everything is spotless. We ate in the restaurant for 2 nights and the food was excellent. The staff, receptionists, waiters, room maids were all genuinely friendly and eager to help and please. The cream slices are heavenly!

This was our third visit to Bled and to the Hotel Toplice. We have visited twice in the summmer and were very keen to see the area in winter and hopefully with snow. The hotel and Bled was quiet while we were there this time. Paying for a lake view room is well worth the extra cash. The staff are very friendly and willing to help. We had a few days vacation in North East Italy at the end of November 2005 (Gorizia, Trieste and Venice) and for a change decided to go across to Slovenia. We crossed over the border (from Gorizia to Nova Gorica which are a few minutes away from each other) and took the train to Bled. We can really recommend the scenic 2 hour train journey which trails the emerald River Soca up to Bled, and we had the added bonus of early snowfall so everything was white. We arrived at Bled Jezero station and took a taxi for the 5 minute ride into town.... more
