After reading many reviews before...
9 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs J Cox

After reading many reviews before arriving at this hotel, I was a more than little apprehensive.
However, that was all forgotten once we arrived at the Hotel. The hotel, grounds and pools are fantastic. The lobby is superb, cool, and very relaxing, especially to just 'people watch', and enjoy the atmosphere & drinks.
Our room was fine, the air con was great to keep us as cool as we wanted. We had two daughters 13 and 14 with us, and they had 'put u up type beds', which were really were not suitable for their size, but they survived! Had I thought, I should have booked a twin room/two rooms connecting or a suite, I forget they are not that small and young anymore!
The waiters did ask my daughters quite a few times if they have boyfriends, and to 'Smile' etc, which did annoy my two a bit, but then they are about as grumpy as 'Kevin & Perry' at this stage of their teens! We thought it was funny! (Making my two girls even grumpier!) Once the waiters realised their ages they accepted the grumpiness from them, and laughed along with us!
We had no problems with the food, it was fine for us, the hotel has to cater for so many Nationalities, so there were foods to suit everyone. We always found something we liked, and it was good to try different things. The cakes are great, they are put out different ones at breakfast, lunch and dinner, they must take ages to make & decorate, some being very small & dainty, to large decorative gateaux's. None of us lost any weight whilst being on holiday, so that says a lot! Nor did we suffer any bad stomach's, apart from the one day that the two kids didn’t drink or eat hardly anything, and were then ill in the night, once each, soon put right by drinking plenty of water.
Tipping. Read a lot about this before we went, and worried about it, but needn't have at all. Airport was fine, even though it was busy, we had cases with wheels, so no need for any local's to 'help' us! We tipped the Bellboy when he brought (and took) the cases to/from the room a £2 coin, then didn't really tip again until the last day, when we tipped the maid(man) about 70 Egyptian Pounds (£7), and a couple of our favourite waiters 50 Egyptian Pounds (approx £5) each. We did not receive any lesser service by not tipping on the first day, or all through, like some people say they have done.
We never waited that long to be served with a drink, if you go in smiling they will notice you sooner, not that it ever seemed that busy when we were there!!!! Smiles go a long way we found. The staff are all very friendly polite, and always made us feel very very welcome.
The hotel grounds are so spacious, and clean, you don't feel crowded out by other guests (we went 13 to 20 July). The grass is so green, even right down to the beach. at the Beach Bar, you can get burgers, hot dogs etc, & opposite across the path, you can get freshly cooked pizza’s and kebabs etc.
Although you are not meant to, people do get up early and put towels on beds by the pools. We could only be bothered to do this twice, preferring to lie in, we usually went down on to the beach, plenty of beds there, and you still get the Hotel Beach towels given out daily. Don't hand them in though if you want to use them to 'book' any sun beds by the pools the following morning, before about 8.00/8.30am.
On our last day, one of the Towel guys offered to let us have our towels until 6pm/ish, & gave us the four towel cards to return to reception at midday (so I gave him two quid!), it meant we could still make the most of the sunshine up until our last couple of hours. Reception also gave us a 'voucher' so we could eat lunch and get (soft) drinks.
I would love to go back, and for two weeks next time, & do a few of the trips. We were so chilled out on this holiday, we couldn't be bothered to do a lot, other than relaxing in the sun, we did visit Old Sharm and Naama Bay (where it seemed very much hotter, than the hotel with it’s constant breeze which diffused the heat) but if we do ever go back, The Pyramids Trip will be top of my 'To Do' List, with quad biking a close second!
Sorry to ramble on and on, I really worried before going after reading some people’s reviews, & the fact I haven't traveled abroad for 18 years, but we all had a fabulous time, I would be happy to go back to the Grand Azure tomorrow.
You lucky people that are going, I envy you! Hope this puts a few minds at rest!

Just returned from Sharm El Sheik and...
7 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss E Kamdar-Scarr

Just returned from Sharm El Sheik and have mixed feelings about my holiday. The hotel's pools and beach were amazing, clean, big and had plenty of bars and shade so you could keep cool and hydrated. The restaurants all have staggered open and closed times so you don't have the option of eating what you want when you want and food certainly isn't served 24 hours. The alcohol served is locally produced so any ideas of sitting in the pool with a top notch pina colada or even a decent vodka and coke can go right out the window!
The majority of the staff are fantastic, friendly, helpful and only too happy to have a chat. There are some (mainly the bell boys) that will not leave you until you tip them. my advice is to have some small change - English or Egyptian handy just to get rid of them!
I wasn't really happy about having to get up early every day of my holiday just to a) get a sun bed and b) book which restaurant I wanted to eat at. By the way don't even bother booking anything other then the Chinese restaurant, the food is amazing, they serve imported alcohol in there and the waiters are the best!
If you have children take your own lilo from home as the prices for everything from inflatables to shampoo are astronomical!
Overall me and mine enjoyed ourselves but it definitely wasn't what we had been promised. We said we would go back to Egypt but definitely not to Sharm.

Just returned from Sharm had a fab...

Jul 2006, Mrs N Parham

Just returned from Sharm had a fab time hotel was very clean.
Grounds and gardens well kept. Beach fantastic pools were lovely if you can get a bed. Our room was small but our friends had a room double the size of ours. Didn't go much on the buffet restaurant but the al a carte was very good had to book the day before. This hotel is very large and the walk in between pools, snack bars and beach was taking forever in the heat. (The tuff tuff bus around the hotel grounds was not working.
The only bad thing about the hotel was not enough staff at the bars. Drinks were taking to long so we ordered 2 at a time. (Not five star service).
I will return to Sharm but stay at a different hotel nearer Naama bay.

Just got back from a wonderful...

Jul 2006, Mrs J Beswick

Just got back from a wonderful holiday at Grand Azure, lovely and clean and our room was the best we have ever been in and this was our 18th time abroad. The pools were great and the beach was great for snorkeling, we found that there were a lot of people complaining about the food but you have got to accept that you are in Egypt and if you want all English food then stay in England!
We did have a bad stomach but it is not from the food it is something that a lot of people from all different hotels experienced, maybe due to the climate as it reached 50 degrees and we are not use to that in England. We tried the Italian restaurant and the Chinese and they were both excellent. The staff were always friendly even though they worked for 14 hrs a day for very little pay. We would certainly go back again.
The only thing that I could say is that there is not much to do at night time in the hotel, but other than that we had a great time and our daughter loved it too, she spent most of her time on the water slides and there was always a life guard on duty when the slides were open. Don’t let negative comments put you off going to this hotel as you can’t expect to have everything perfect.

I don't wish to be a bearer of bad...

Jul 2006, Mr J Harris

I don't wish to be a bearer of bad news, but the LTI Grand Azure is not the best.
All I can say is it does appear some people are easily pleased.
The good points: very clean, lobby is 5*, a la carte restaurants are ok, weather very hot, fantastic diving and snorkelling.
The bad points: buffet food is bland and repetitive, staff expect tips (this is an unfortunate side effect of over tipping), under staffed in service areas, rooms are dated, some staff are rude, wait ages to be served, no entertainment of note.
There was a bad outbreak of delly belly when I was there.
I don't normally complain, but like many previous entries, people who think the place deserves 10/10 must have been permanently p****d on the local plonk which tasted of aniseed (except the beer which was good).
Will return to Sharm for the diving, but will definitely go B&B as Naama Bay has a number of good restaurants and bars.

I stayed in the grand azure last week...
10 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss A Donnelly

I stayed in the grand azure last week and wow what can I say absolutely amazing. Arrived in Sharm airport and I have to say no where near as manic as some people commented. It took ten minutes to get from the airport to the hotel ands as we drove in the gates stepped of the bus and into the lobby all I could say was wow. Stunning!
The staff were lovely and although we did tip they didn’t expect it. Mostaf aka Bob Marley kept us very entertained as sis smiley (can’t remember his name). The specialist restaurants were gorgeous the food was brilliant although the main restaurant was good too but not to everyone’s tastes. We stayed a week so with excursions it meant we only ate dinner there twice. The breakfasts were great we had fresh pancakes and fruit every morning. For lunches we went to the Tropicana and had pizza made fresh in front of you or fajitas. Opposite the Tropicana was a burger hut.
The pools were lovely and we mainly stayed at the middle pool although the fountain pool and waterfalls pool were great too. The Russians and Germans though were out very early getting the sun beds so selected beds but we always got sorted out.
We were upgraded to a suite on arrival and it was lovely. We had a living area and a huge bed, balcony overlooking the main pool.
The cleanest hotel i have ever been at and the friendliest helpful staff too.
All in all a wonderful place and I’m bringing my family over next year. Can’t wait.
So don’t believe all the bad reviews some people just can't be pleased.

Had an excellent holiday at this...
9 / 10
Jun 2006, Mrs R Lake

Had an excellent holiday at this hotel. We traveled with 2 children aged 3yrs and 1yr. The staff were excellent and absolutely love kids! The food was pretty average, what we expected really.
You don't expect to go to Egypt and have roast beef and Yorkshire! The beach wasn't very good but the pool area was superb. Having two small children it was obviously a concern, but it was wonderful. The main pool is huge with a capital H! It gently slopes into the water and is similar to small bays so you only have a few people around each part.
Quite hard to explain, but you won't be disappointed. The reception area is stunning and it really is quite a grand hotel. We only went for a week and didn't do too much, but well worth the money.

The hotel itself is fabulous...
6 / 10
Jun 2006, Mrs K Pugh

The hotel itself is fabulous everywhere u look is clean. There are plenty of staff and the rooms are good.
The downside is the food is just ok if you want to eat in fish Chinese or oriental rest you have to queue at 10 in the morning there are only 16 places in the Chinese rest which is silly when the hotel caters for 600. If you want to go to Naama bay you have to book the bus the day before and there is only one bus.
The taxi is roughly 16 pounds English return trip and the heat is really to much to do a great deal both my husband and I had food poisoning from the third day onwards so all in all we won’t be visiting Sharm in the future. We both found the holiday to restricting and holiday campish. It really is lovely. But not for us.

We had a good week at the LTI,...
6 / 10
Jun 2006, Miss N Randall

We had a good week at the LTI, although this hotel has good and bad points: PRO's - The grounds are beautiful, the pools and gardens are really well maintained. The beach is great and the snorkeling from the hotel jetty is amazing. We had a suite and it was really lovely, the cleaners left it immaculate every day.
We didn’t get experience any stomach upsets ourselves (although heard others complain). CON'S: The food is horrendous! We are not fussy eaters but appreciate good food (especially in a 5 star hotel) even the ‘so called’ al a carte menu was at times inedible. The drinks are very watered down with a limited selection. There was rarely any ice so they were serving warm cocktails and soft drinks. If you want to sunbathe at the pool, be prepared to get up early for a sun bed as they all seem to be reserved.
The nightlife is non-existent (go into Naama Bay). Despite the above negative points, we had a great relaxing holiday. The weather was perfect; there is a strong breeze, which made the heat bearable. I recommend a visit to Naama bay as there is a free shuttle bus from the hotel. Be aware of pestering men though (especially if you are blond like me!). I wouldn’t have felt safe if I was in a group of girls.
I’ve stayed in 5 start hotels before and this doesn’t even compare. The food and drink lets it down. This is the perfect hotel for sun worshippers, who want quiet evenings in and aren’t looking for good food!

Good Points: Lobby, restaurants,...
5 / 10
May 2006, Mrs C Csordas

Good Points: Lobby, restaurants, public areas, pools & beach were clean. We used the fountain pool bar every day and Hanny was always friendly & helpful. The grounds are lovely, well maintained and spotless and the snorkelling is amazing!
Bad Points: We were very dissapointed with the service. Prior to going we read reports of long waits to be served and thought these must be exagerated, sadly they are not.
The Tropicana restaurant and Beach bar are the worst, waits of 15, 25 and 30 minutes. There are no dish washers at the exterior bars, so glasses are rinsed, then wiped with the same tea towel all day.
Our hotel room was very "tired" and in need of decoration. Cracked bathroom tiles, holes in the roof, marks on the blankets. The T.V, hairdryer and air conditioning controls were broken. They did replace the T.V, however the hairdryer remained broken.
The drinks on offer are very limited for a 5 star rated hotel and are poor quality. I didnt think the food was well presented in the main restaurant, so book the Italian, Oriental or Chinese, the food in these restaurants was far superior.
This is the first time I have complained about a hotel, but I feel strongly that the hotel does not offer a high enough standard in service to warrant its 5 star status.
It has been intimated on previous reports that anyone leaving a negative review must be unsophisticated. However I spoke to people at the resort who, the same as me have lived and worked in various countries and have travelled extensively.
We have returned with great tans and the weather was fantastic. We accepted the fact that it took so long to be served and we were ignored, we even laughed about it, but if you go expecting 5 star service then you will be annoyed by the staffs attitude. I will visit Sharm again, but I won’t stay at this hotel.

We along with others were...
7 / 10
May 2006, Mrs C Murgatroyd

We along with others were apprehensive about the hotel and area prior to arriving but were pleasantly surprised on arrival. The hotel was absolutely beautiful, the main reception took our breath away and the outside was equally impressive. The pools were fantastic and clean and the constant supply of sun beds and towels was cheery.
The pool staff were more than helpful in everyway as were the internal shop staff. Now for the down side, the bar staff were somewhat cocky and only interested in the hard drinkers.
The main restaurant staff and also the specialty restaurant staff were in a world of there own and appeared to want you to eat quick and get out. The reception staff were the most unhelpful people I have ever come across until I mentioned the word FOOD POISONING. Yes all four of us had a dicky tummy that initially we put down to the climate change but when we all came down with the illness again there was something more to worry about.
The more people we spoke to we realised this was not due to the climate! Once back in the UK one of our party has got gastroenteritis. The food is checked re the temperature but this alone does not stop the germs.
I will not go back due to this incident and would warn anyone going to stock up with Imodium. Unfortunately looks can be deceptive and this hotel was.

What can I say...very disappointing....
4 / 10
May 2006, Mr Andrew Smyth

What can I say...very disappointing.
The food in the buffet was poor - the hot food cold and a health hazard (we got very sick over Christmas for 3 days) but the a la carte were OK. Rooms were dated - iron burn mark on the carpet etc. The staff that cleaned the rooms were however quite good. We got an extra package that included room service that was non-existent. You rang them up to place an order and the never came. When you rang back they pretended the previous order was never received (even though you are speaking to the same person).
They all expect to be tipped which I actually found quite rude. If you didn't they certainly let you know.
The pools are freezing in their Winter which was not made known beforehand.
I have stayed at similar rated resorts and got much better quality of food and service.
For the money you pay I would not go back.
