hideously expensive for what you got
At £500 a night I wasn't expecting broken lightbulbs or such a compact room. And the rooms are not anything special from what you'd expect at a five-star, not a six-star hotel, if they even met that standard. The best thing about the room is the balcony looking over the water, so if you do decide to stay here, definitely worth paying the extra for that, else you could be staying anywhere. I actually found the whole place quite sterile and disappointing. The staff do make a lot of effort. In fact, we found them overly attentive during... more
Fantastic room, luxury hotel, great quiet pool and private beach
If you are not wanting to be surrounded by children and families but want some facilities to keep you interested in the evening then this is a great hotel - we looked around the Waha which we thought was great if you were a family but akin to the sort of big hotel you get in spain - nothing special. The Al Bandar was nicer but it appeared that many families were also staying here so it was just as busy but slightly nicer. The Al Husn was therefore closer to what we wanted - bit more elite, less of the crowd and plush - we throughly enjoyed... more
Wow!! Amazing hotel
We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Shangri La - Al Husn - wow what can I say words are not enough to describe this place. The service is impeccable, rooms absolutely gorgeous and the setting of the hotel is just amazing. If you want pure luxury and peace for a few days this is the place to stay. The pool area was realy nice- you get your own cooler box with drinks etc refilled whenever you want and the staff cannot do enough for you - my only compliant would be that they need a few more umbrellas near the pool area. Afternoon... more
Luxury-at a price
This was a return visit-we were here some two years ago shortly after it opened. To confirm the points in the other reviews-this is a classic luxury hotel in a beautiful situation with stunning views. The bedrooms are enormous, beautifully fitted out and with a giant dressing room /bathroom with a fantastic shower room and a giant bath, with luxury toiletries to match. The large balcony has great sea views and an ideal spot to relax with a drink in your hand at dusk. The mini bar is complimentary and refilled with beers,... more
Wow! Why go anywhere else, fantastic!
We are getting married this year, so this was our only holiday we could have before September. I had looked at Dubai, but had been put off by the concrete forest of hotels, so opted for Oman. To start with I suppose the one negative was the cost of everything, ITS NOT CHEAP!!! However, everything from the service (they cannot do enough for you) to the rooms, food, wine people was without fault! So I guess you get what you pay for! As we were staying in the Al Husn rather than the two other hotels within the resort (which were also... more
A special occassion
Having been to the Burj in Dubai for my special birthday I wanted something a bit special for my Wife's birthday, difficult! I made a great choice with this hotel. The seaview room was as impressive as any other 5 star ,elegantly furhished and with a complimentarty mini bar ( soft drinks & beer ). Usual facilities & a nice balcony overlooking the resort & good views of the coastline southwards topped it off. The room service was excellent & we never had any complaints. Laundry we found out at the end of our stay was complimentary, pity or we... more
Does what it says in the brochure!
We wanted a winter sun, R&R week with good food, drink and service. That is what we got. The Al Husn hotel is part of the complex but set apart and pool and beach are for use of hotel guests only. You can also use the other hotel's facilities, but we didn't feel the need. The beach is lovely with a cooling breeze. You get excellent service from the beech guys who move your sunbed around for you. You get a little cool box with complimentary soft drinks each day with refills. It was quiet while we weer there buut there was plenty of... more
Pure unadulterated luxury
Despite the fact that we got caught up in the Sultan's decision to hold a conference in Muscat over Christmas meaning we had to vacate the hotel and spend 4 days in Abu Dhabi, the Al Husn was paradise on earth. Beautiful location, fabulous accommodation, excellent food, attentive service, fantastic facilities. I am running out of superlatives now, so I'd better stop! Unfortunately it has raised our expectations and all future hotels will be judged by the Al Husn standards,
Good but pricey!
I'm a bit torn with this hotel. While it was an excellent hotel, great food, excellent service, I'm just not so sure about the value for money to be honest. It was exceedingly expensive. Initially, we booked a £250 room at Al Wahi, which turned out to be the size of a shoe-box. It looked like a standard hotel room in any Marriott. It did have a small balcony (all rooms at the Al Jissah have balconies) but it was a pretty llifeless and dull room for £250. Instead of being depressed over the room, we decided to upgrade. My... more
perfect place to get engaged
tranquil, beautiful and an exceptional service. the food at the various buffets in the 3 resorts was exquisite and the variety of pools and rest areas allowed for diversity and new scenery everything day. The room was great with a huge bed. Free shuttle service into town, he mall and the souk. The spa, although expensive was one of the best we have ever been to. The only fault was for the price of alchohol. The night we got engaged we celebrated with a glass of moet in the piano bar. We were staggered when the bill came in at £70 odd !!... more
Wonderful
We stayed at the Al Husn hotel. Firstly I'll list the negatives, although there will be few: The location of the hotel is approximately 45 mins from Muscat, although this may seem a negative, the drive through the city and then through the mountains more than makes up for the long drive. The scenery is spectacular. The reception staff were less than helpful. I found them borderline lazy, especially the male staff. The women were slightly better. I don't think they know how to smile! However, the rest of the staff, from... more
