excellent
best hotel we've stayed in.Stayed Sun night for £99,breakfast and al a carte evening meal included, absolutly fantastic, food out of this world.
Leicester's best
Hotel Maiyango is far and away the best option when it comes to staying in Leicester. The rooms have everything from flatscreen TV to rainfall shower - and even a pillow menu! There are loads of little extras in the room - apples, biscuits, chocolates - and the furniture was designed and built especially for the hotel. The breakfast (included) is superb although cooked food costs extra. The restaurant is fantastic. The decor is really original and everything on the menu exhibits great attention to detail. The cocktails are great and... more
Awesome
At no fault of the hotel's, I would like to say here that it proved REALLY difficult to get to the hotel from the station. The taxi drivers in Leicester all appear to have no knowledge of the roads and very basic English language skills...!! I had to phone the hotel, and relay directions to the taxi driver, who still insisted that the hotel was not where they said it was!! (but then again, later a taxi driver took me to a very weird little place called the Jungle Club, which was miles out of town when I had asked him to take... more
Coacktails to swoon over
I walked into the 3rd floor reception to be greeted with cosy tranquility after a hassled journey. The receptionist showed me personally to my room and explained all the 'bits'. The room was chilly and she immediately sorted this out without me even thinking about it. I met my colleagues for dinner in the restaurant - cocktails to die for, staff who genuinely want to help and food that simply melted in your mouth. The bed was a welcome haven and I woke up feeling relaxed and ready to go.
A night to remember!!
While spending 2 days at the Dive Show at the NEC, we decided to pamper ourselves and stay in a nice hotel. Google research led us to Hotel Maiyango. This is not your average hotel. It's chic and comfortable but (and here's the bonus) the food is the best I've had outside of London. The menu isn't extensive but it is very original and every dish is very tempting. All the dishes are put together using local and seasonal ingredients and the service is just great. The restaurant is warm, welcoming and comfortable - squishy sofas and big... more
Fantastic restaurant and hotel.
fantastic restaurant - one of the best i've eaten in. Hotel booked based on restaurant experience. Hotel does need a sign outside but apart from that it was gorgeous. Staff were all friendly and helpful, atmosphere is modern but comfy and room was excellent. Breakfast was good but you have to pay extra for cooked breakfast. Big bathroom with lovely shower /bath in. bed very comfy with "pillow menu" so you could pick how hard or soft your pillows were. Can't recommend the restaurant enough - a real 5* experience without... more
Setting the record straight
I had a call from one of the Hotel Directors today, asking for more details on why it was that we were unhappy with our stay. I assured him that we were not at all unhappy, there were one or two small niggles, but we would stay again, and recommend the Hotel to others. Having looked at some of the other reviews on Tripadvisor I can see why he might be worrying. Just to try to put things in context, and from our experience and in comparison with the many other hotels in which we have stayed, the rooms are spacious, well equiped, bathrooms... more
Almost certainly the Best in Leicester.
We booked 6 rooms, a board room and used the restaurant twice... Loved it. Our entire party (4 Brits and 2 Dutch) commented how nice this hotel was, rooms are not the largest but were very comfortable, well decorated/furnished and air conditioned too which was ideal for the 27-28 degrees outside over our stay. Bathrooms are very clean and included a walk-in shower. Each Bedroom has a huge flat screen TV and DVD player. We had both Dinner and Lunch in the restaurant both were very good and served by an enthusiastic, pleasant... more
Dont bother!
Booked on the basis of the hotel website, which in retrospect, does not reflect how poor this hotel is! The rooms and decor are good, however pale into insignificance when it is situated opposite a car park with not so nice surrounding buildings. The hotel rooms are way overpriced for what you get. The staff are generally ok, however one member was particularly rude when we questioned the level of noise heard from a party upstairs. In conclusion, this is a POOR attempt to replicate genuine boutique hotels with generally offer... more
Leicester's only boutique hotel, not ready for the big leagues
Leicester may not be the UK's ugliest city, but it is in close contention. Hotel Mayango is trying hard, but ultimately it fails to deliver the basics. 1. he hotel faces a huge car park and/or a number of noisy pubs. 2. Taxi drivers will take you to the restaurant, but are unaware that the hotel is a few doors down in a non-descript, non-labelled entrance. 3. I spent well over half an hour trying to get the DVD player to work, it does not work. 4. I called the front desk, repeatedly, to get a wake up call. Forget about it.... more
Management response from TInsterr

We take feedback very seriously and therefore thank this guest for his comments. We hope the following points answer the points on this review. 1. The Hotel faces a small council pay and display car park which is over a wide road however immediately in front of the Hotel is a collection of mature trees and a raised garden area with a vast array of exotic plants. From the hotel’s roof top terrace you can see views across the city including the Cathedral Spire and the old Victorian rooftops. I would imagine the huge car park being referred to belongs to is the NCP which if you are on the top floor and look over to the right you can see it below the Holiday Inn. We are a City Centre Hotel and obviously we do get some‘City Noise’. There is one pub over the road from the hotel but it does not have an outside area and we have never had any complaints of noise from this building. 2. Hotel Maiyango is a brand new hotel, whereas the restaurant has been around for two and a half years and has an excellent reputation throughout the city which is probably why all the taxi drivers know exactly where it is. The hotel is awaiting planning permission from the council in regards to signage for the hotel. The hotel is not a few doors down from the restaurant but is in fact next door but one. Any guest arriving at the restaurant are shown by our obliging staff to the hotel elevator. 3. The DVD player was tested during the guests stay and worked perfectly, instructions were given to the guest however it seems it still did not work. It was tested again after the guests departure and again was working fine. 4. We are only a small hotel however we do offer our guests the service of a Night Porter/Supervisor. However sometimes after 11.00pm his duties take him away from the reception desk. The guest was given an apology for the phone not being manned when he called, a nice bottle of wine was also left in the room for the inconvenience. We are rectifying this by installing a mobile handset for our night staff member. 5. Hotel Maiyango includes a continental breakfast with the room rate. The menu consists of freshly baked croissants and pastries, fresh fruit salad, a fresh fruit bowl, a selection of cereals, yoghurts and fruit juices, freshly ground cafetiere coffee, a selection of teas and toasted bread. A wide range of cooked items can also be ordered and freshly prepared at a supplement. We believe this provides better quality than cooked items left out under heat lamps. As to Leicester City being in contention as one of the country's ugliest cities we would like to mention that Leicester is currently under going a huge regeneration project and in excess of over £350 million being spent. A vast amount of this project will be completed in the Autumn with a brand new shopping complex including the second largest John Lewis in the UK, a new deluxe cinema and a state of the art theatre complex called ‘Curve’. New restaurants, facilities, and city squares will be available and the majority of the city centre is currently being pedestrianised. Leicester is an up and coming University city with lots to offer in the area. Hotel Maiyango prides itself on its personal and unobtrusive service and on a recent article in the Observer Newspaper was rated the ‘City’s Best’. Travel Section, 13th Jan 2008, Hotel Maiyango appreciates all feedback whether excellent or negative. This in turn gives us the tools to rectify any problems and improve our facilities and service for our future guests. We thank this particular guest once again for taking the time to make us aware of his concerns and problems during his stay with us.

Leicester's best
The hotel was stylish and extremely comforatble Would definately recommend having dinner and a drink or two in the restaurant where the food was fantastic, before retiring for the night.
