Apart Hotel Koala Tarifa

We stayed over a week at KOALA APPARTMENTS in Tarifa and it felt like home. You don´t get the impression of being at a hotel, it´s cosy and you can even cook at the appartment. Marta and Bjorn, the owners, are absolutely nice and helpful. Great fancy decoration. Located in an old beautiful building in the centre of Tarifa but not noisy. Very practical and comfortable. We (2 guests) spent one week, first in the 'Akalo' apartment (with access to the solarium terrace), and then in 'Lakoa' (with access to the inner garden). Both apartments are very tidy and truly beautifully arranged and look even better than on the photos. I sleep in the Koala-Tarifa between June and July and it was one of my best deal i never had during an holiday, the accommodation is very clean and it is very comfortable. the kitchen is completely fournisced whit all you need, we traveling whith my 8 month baby and we had lots of extra needs and Marta, the owner of the hotel, was very helpful kind and efficient. Tarifa was our last station at the Andalucia-Round-Trip. Koala-Tarifa was the most stylish, relaxed and hippest location we have been in spain. Björn and Marta where always friendly, helpful and attentive. It is obvious that the owners of this hotel have a background in design. Everything has been carefully thought through and use of space is excellent. We had the topmost room in the hotel, the Akalo, which is also the smallest I think. We had direct access up some steps to the rooftop "solarium", a great little space for reading and chilling. The room is more of a studio, with a small galley kitchen, and is spotlessly clean. If you have a lot of luggage you may need a slightly larger room. The shower is great, very powerful.<br... more

We originally intended to stay om Tarifa for only 2 nights, but after stumbling upon Koala on our 2nd day, we stayed for 8! During our stay we had 2 rooms. 1 was very small - perfect if you only need 1 or 2 nights. The 2nd was a larger self contained apartment with 2 double beds, a spacious living area, large kitchen and big bathroom. The beds are comfortable, the rooms quiet, bright and airy, the kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook (we cooked on a few occasions) and they have fast wireless broadband.<br... more

First off, Tarifa is a nice little town, very different from the Costa del Horrible to the east, with a cool downtown/old town area. The Koala is on a very small lane and up a small lane, and does not have a very visible sign, so we had a hard time finding it, and had to call and Bjorn came and met us by the church. But the place is just charming, and overall reasonably priced since we could all stay in 1 room. Koala is a beautiful little place. The ambience as you walk through the main doors is just perfect - the lighting, music playing, water feature, sun coming through the little courtyard. It really sets the tone of the holiday. Just 5 or 6 rooms, all finished to a high standard, set in a quiet street in the centre of the old town, just around the corner from the main church, run by a lovely couple who go out of their way to help you organise things and make you feel welcome, lovely sun terraces sheltered from the wind. We stayed in the LAKOA room in the Koala Hotel in Tarifa which has access to the beautiful garden and chill out zone...it just gave another element to the holiday as when we got back from the beach we were not just confined to the room...which was not just a room but a full apartment, a kitchen, dining table, living area ad bedroom all open planned and decorated to a beautiful quality finish (although not air conditioned but when we were there in September it was really lovely and cool in the rooms and fans are provided if needs be)!!<br... more

We stayed in Koala for 4 nights and to honest it wasn't enough. Tarifa's old town is beautiful, full of lovely bars, deli's and restaurants. Koala was situated right in the middle of the old town in a stunning white Andaluz townhouse. The appartments were stylish, practical and very homely. We even had fresh flowers put into our room one morning. Breakfast was great and I loved the idea of helping yourself with the option to take it upstairs and enjoy it in your room. Stayed here for 3 nights in the Kalao apartment - one of the ones with access to the garden. The apartment was very spacious and modern with a lounger area, self-catering kitchen and very good bathroom. It was in a good location in the old town of Tarifa, only a few minutes walk from lots of restaurants and bars. Although these are apartments the owners provide more of a hotel service eg, breakfast is included.
