Kinabalu Pine Resorts

My friends and I stayed at this hotel before our Mt. Kinabalu climb. It was about 15mins ride to the Mesilau gate. Our van wasn't moving very fast up hill. Our unit comes with a large terrace where we sat and relax with our coffee and tea. There is no air condition in the room but the area is quite cold especially at night. Stayed for just one night at PIne Resort. Took Minibus up from KK, is uncomfortable and drivers tend to drive fast, but is cheap at only 20MYR. The resort itself is nice, clean, relaxing with good view of Mt Kinabalu. However, you have to eat at the resort or drive to find another restaurant as in Kundasang there is nothing apart from fruit and vegatable stalls. Therefore is a nice place to use a base if you are simply climbing the Mountain or on a tour or exploring the area. Go for the deluxe room, its worth it.

The resort was basic but for the price you pay, I dont think you can complain much. The saving grace was the beautiful view and lovely weather. however, I was glad I was leaving without further incident when @ the reception, a young mother was in tears as she was checking out immediately upon realising the sheets in her room, had dried blood on it! The room was so-so.... but the view is magnificent. the resort has full view of mt kinabalu. Its a bit far off from kinabalu park, but i bet u cant have full mountain view from kinabalu park resort. Do ask for block P, its the standard room block but its the best block facing the mt. during my stay, the peak covered by clouds. only during dusk and dawn we could see the peak. but it was great... really breathtaking, its a must do thing when u go to kota kinabalu. The room cost RM170 standard - no air-conditioner/heater. Only a standing fan and a tv with only 2 channels. Bathroom is rather bare and the carpet/blankets etc needed dusting. If you have an allergy problem you may not get a good night's sleep. Restaurant food is below average (the taste and quantity) and rather costly considering that most of the vegetables are grown and sold (cheaply) nearby.

There were four of us and we stayed at the Pines "by default" since we were double booked at the park headquaters which was our initial choice. It was Christmas day when we arrived. We had on a previous trip stayed within the park itself and had planned on doing so again because we did not want the hassle of travelling too far in the morning of the trek. As my stay at the hotel, the scenery of the Mount KK is magnificent. When i placed my booking 6 months earlier, i was not been inform that the booking rate come with the breakfast set or not. The curtain design in the room make us become easy prey of the peep mania. Beside, the tv set was probably a kind of decoration because the reception was so bad till we hardly see the motion picture! The hotel's location has to be the best point, set between the entrance to the park & Ranu (a largish town), it has great views (when not clouded over!) of Mount Kinabalu, and the surounding area. That said, the blurb about all rooms having a view of the mountain is perhaps a tad misleading - yes you can see it from the little deck from outside the rooms, but from many you need to look around trees, or sit facing sideways, rather than to the front - however this is really just nit-picking to be honest. This was a most lousy hotel in my life I have ever stayed. Hotel scenery and view was nice and quiet. However, many flies I can see in restaurant. When I took my lunch in Pine restaurant, we were sitted in open area but our seat was under roof. It real a good scenery but many flies were around us. Food was nice also. However insert was dropped to my soup when we suddenly heard things drop inside soup. We looked up to roof there have many lizards!!! This is a 2-star hotel. It has won many awards, especially for landscaping. We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2007. When Mt Kinabalu is not shrouded in cloud, we can see this majestic mountain while lying on our king sized bed, watching TV, sitting at the balcony of our room, or just walking around the beautifully landscaped hotel grounds.
