Great stay
Just got back from a weekend at the Gallery. We had a great time. Nice location, friendly people. Good value B+B. The owner was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!!!!
Absolutely terrible!
The owner was off-hand from the outset - 'there it is'. We asked about vegetarian breakfast: "We've got mushrooms, tomatoes and beans - I suppose that'll be ok.' The b & b area was entered through a scruffy artist's studio and uncarpeted stairs (it turned out we were supposed to have breakfast here - but there were no chairs or tables you could imagine eating off!). The room itself was just big enough for a bed, an absurdly huge TV and a seat in the window (no back to lean against so no good for me with a back problem). The... more
Dirty and needs cleaning
The TV and window seals were covered in dust, sweet wrappers were left on the floor, hair was in the wash basin, loo seat was chipped, and the bed sheets had not been changed from the previous occupant. The web site looks great and when we called we asked what time we could check in, when we said mid morning, fine they said. We got there at midday and they said the room was still being cleaned come back at 2.30. So we walked around in the rain and had coffee till 3pm. When we were eventually shown to our room it was found as described... more
Not your usual B&B and not for us
It is so hard to understand why our experience was so bad when so many seem to have had good experiences... We arrived to find our room with dirty towel from the prevoius visitor...put outside on stair bannister. Room as is understandable in these old cottages cold but heater not working Tried to have bath..(7pm), another used and very grubby towel in bathroom, little hot water and coming through brown with rust! We had an early start the next day, leaving a 8am but told breakfast served between 8:30-9:30 and that we... more
Do Not Stay Here
Port Isaac is a fabulous village and we loved our visit there. Unfortunately The Gallery did not provide good accommodation. We were overcharged on our credit card deposit and refused any receipt for payment. This wouldn't have mattered so much if we could have slept. Both Friday and Saturday nights, the owner kept us up with his partying just below us. On Saturday night the shouting did not end until after 5:30 in the morning. The owner is a likeable chap, but this isn't what you pay high prices for. I would return in a flash to Port... more
Port Isaac in a B*B
We just returned from a 3 night / 4 day retreat at The Gallery in Port Isaac - and I wish I never left. It's a spectacular place, the type that makes you think that you could live there, permanently. In a top location close to lavish restaurants (you've got to eat at the Old School where Jake dishes out the most to die for food) and a minutes walk from the happening Golden Lion pub, the Gallery has breathtaking views of the harbour and the Adriatic-like sea. The Governor, Martyn who also owns the gallery downstairs, took great care of us and... more
Loved The Gallery
I spent Easter weekend at The Gallery B&B and absolutely loved the comfortable, laid-back atmosphere. Martin, the fab local artist owner, made us feel at home immediately - in fact it was more like staying at a funky friend's house than in a hotel. And coupled with the wonderful harbour views and terraced back garden ideal for enjoying a glass or two, was just the icing on the cake!
what a relaxing week
We have just returned from a weeks stay at The Gallery in Port Issac - What an amazing place! Quiet and relaxing a beautiful unspoilt village, friendly locals - all welcoming - We stayed at The Gallery with our son ( 6yrs old ) and Martin the owner went out of his way to ensure our son had all the right foods to eat, he was very flexible in relation to breakfast times - our son invariably was up first in a morning but Martin always cooked what he asked for straight away which allowed us to relax before breakfast. He pointed out places of... more
Wont be coming back
This was our second visit to the Gallery, be first stayed in January this year and loved it however this time was a different story. We first arrived and the owner was a little worse for wear as he had been to a party the night before. When we were shown to our room we quickly noticed that everywhere was covered in dust, even the cups were dusty and had to be cleaned before use.. This was also the case in the bathroom. (I have wrote clean me in the dust somewhere in the sea view room, for all future guests to try to find, hopefully it... more
Disappointing...
Based on the website pics and the reviews on this site, we had high hopes for our 3 night stay (my birthday) last month. The owner sounded professional on the phone, but sadly did not display that quality in person. The advertised "suite" was a very small room with a tiny pouf to sit on near the window. I felt angry because the owner had "sold" us this room over a less expensive room, claiming it was a suite. The website photos are misleading. It was adjacent to the owner's sitting room, which we could share with the owner (a... more
Great B&B in Port Isaac
The Gallery is a lovely B&B overlooking the harbour in Port Isaac. The interior is a great mix of traditonal and contempary, which we found to be very comfortable and relaxing. The owners are very friendly and always at hand with tips for walks, places to explore etc and they make a great breakfast! Port Isaac is a great place to chill out in Cornwall, and the Gallery is the perfect base from which to do this.
Peaceful Port Isaac
The Gallery is a bed and breakfast situated almost opposite the Old School, half way down Fore Street, which is the main road going down to the harbour. The views from the rooms are excellent of both the harbour & the sea. The house used for the filming of 'Doc Martin' can be seen on the opposite side of the bay. Martyn Dempsey, the gentleman who runs the establishment is a very pleasant person & extremely friendly, he will help you with directions, he also offers a choice of breakfasts at a time, within reason, to suit yourself.... more
