Thumping Bass, disturbed night
As a family we're seasoned travelodge users, often taking advantage of the sale rates and taking whatever comes at us. We were looking forward to visiting the excellent German Christmas fair so to find a £9 room within walking distance was great....but the other reviews of this hotel were spot on! We had room 124 which looked out onto a courtyard that was sealed, but once we returned to the room at around 9.30pm it became apparent that we'd not have a quiet night. The bass from the Bowling Alley thumped through until around 11pm. There was... more
Great value
We were in Birmingham to attend a concert at the NIA on May Bank Holiday Monday. We had paid £26 each for 2 family rooms. There was some initial confusion finding the hotel entrance as we came up from the underground car park (the entrance is on the first floor and accessed either by a staircase or a lift) - signage could be better. Our receptionist was friendly and helpful. We were allocated rooms that faced onto an internal courtyard of sorts so noise wasn't a problem. Not a great view but who stays as at a Travelodge for the... more
Noise, noise, noise
We were a family of 2 adults and 2 children and thus booked a family room. We have stayed in many travelodges premier inns etc. in family rooms but this was the smallest ever. Beds consisted of a double and a very old dusty and falling to bits sofa with a pull out trolley underneath for the second childs bed. No bedding for the childrens beds supplied - this was delivered about an hour after checking in - we had to make the beds up ourselves. Once childrens beds pulled out had to climb over things to get around room. Towels supplied for 2... more
Not good!
Not a great welcome - asked to sit down and wait by stony faced receptionist who was obviously having to sort out a problem with some guests. Eventually manager came out to help - it was 6pm in the evening and a queue was forming....... The travelodge is over restuarants and a bowling alley. My room window was next to the walkway and overlooking the Plaza so had to keep the curtains shut for privacy and against the noise (Tuesday evening). Bowling Alley had music which went through a deep bass Techo every 20 minutes or so and shook... more
Its not a hotel its a travelodge.
Stayed here 1 night whilst in town to see the panto, with my cousin and her son. Despite the room being booked for 2 adults and a child the room was not set up for 3 people. Only 2 sets of towels, 2 cups, no tea or coffee (but 2 milks!) and no bedding for the pull out bed. We had to go down to the main desk and ask for the bedding for the third bed, tea & coffee and another set of towels for our friends who had only one hand towel between them! When we returned from the theater the bedding was dumped on the sofa. The bed was not... more
Excellent location, good value
The hotel is very centrally located. There are restaurants and entertainment places around it, though I wasn't there for entertainment nor holiday. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money.
Ideal for a night out on Broad Street but can be noisy
Stayed here for a Friday and Saturday night in December 2007. The hotel is located at the far end of Broad Street on Ladywood Middleway just off the Five Ways roundabout. For those travelling in by train note that this is a good 20-25 minute walk from Birmingham New Street station. However, Five Ways station is about a 10 minute walk away. The entrance to the hotel is located up a steep flight of stairs and is above a restaurant and some bars. Although there is a lift I didn't spot it until after I had struggled up the stairs with... more
Excellent location
This hotel has an excellent location, there are many pubs & restaurants nearby, with the renovated canal basin about five minutes walk away. I booked this hotel for a couple of nights as a reasonable cost city break, but after reading some of the reviews was concerned about what I had let myself in for, I need not have worried the room was spotlessly clean, all facilities in working order, and the staff helpful. It certainly is not 5* accommodation, but you are not paying 5* prices. Ideal for a short break in the city.
ok for the price
Stayed here for one saturday night at the £26 rate wich is good if you can get it ! The room we had was at the front of the hotel with a pedestrian walkway outside the front window, wich was not a problem has long has the curtains where kept closed !! "It seemed like constant nightime ". It was only a small problem has we did not spend that much time there in the day time . The room apart from that was clean and of the usual travelodge standard functional and adequate. There was noise of people talking outside late at night but it is to be... more
Nice hotel
As others have said, if you can book this hotel in advance you can get some really good deals. Unfortunately due to confusion with friends the rate had gone up to £40 for a Family Room (double bed, one pull-out) by the time we booked it. However, I still felt this to be good value for money. The room was quite clearly designed to ensure disabled access so was very large and airy with a wet-room style large bathroom (shower only). It was modern and very clean and the hotel is carpeted throughout the hallways which means no noise of... more
Only if you can get it on a saver rate.....
We stayed at the Fiveways Travelodge in Birmingham for one night this weekend as my Wife was in the city on business. We managed to get a saver rate for this hotel of £26 which for a Friday night in a major city was excellent value. The hotel has only been open for a few months so the is very clean and modern, located just 5 mins walk from Broad Street, 10mins from Brindley Place and about 20mins from the main shopping areas of the city. The hotel is located in what seems like a new retail park at Broadway Plaza and has a... more
