Very friendly staff
Stayed at the Blackbull last weekend for three nights £133. Great value very friendly staff especially Paul and his son Tony . Good size room and very clean ,Bathroom spotless. Breakfast plenty as much as you want.. Could'nt fault the place , good priced meals in the evening. A 20 minute walk from the centre of York which we did three times but we also caught the no 10 bus which is a stones throw from the Inn. We are pensioners and can travel free on the bus . The taxi from the station cost £7 but we found out later the no 10 bus... more
Excellent location
Fantastic location, on a main bus route, a couple of minutes and you’re in the centre. The lively could easily walk! We experienced none of the problems mentioned in the car park. The room was pretty much as you would expect from a budget chain - clean, tidy, comfortable beds etc. I liked the huge white quilts and the pack of biscuits was a nice touch. There were plenty of towels and pillows – something some other chains fall down on. Now for the downside – some of the food served in the pub was not good - even after I... more
Fantastic Stay!
We stayed at this hotel from the 14th of March until the 17th March. We decided to stay here due to the location and it was close to our family who we where visiting at the time. We usually come to this hotel for a few drinks at night, but for a wee change decided we wanted to stay here and see what the hotel would be like to stay. The hotel was very clean and tidy and the rooms were immaculate and very well presented. The staff were great and if asked anything they where only to be pleased to help. We did the quiz night on the sunday... more
Well pleased.
We have just returned from a two night stay here and would certainly book again. We found the service friendly and efficient and the room spacious and comfortable. Heating was easily controlled to one's own preference. Food served in the Black Bull was a good range of Pub Grub well presented good value and speedily served. Remember the complimentary breakfast, though excellent, is of the continental variety. Overall the Black Bull/Innkeepers Lodge is a great venue, after a tiring day in the city, in which to spend an evening... more
Excellent stay. Don't believe all you read.
Booked a 5 night stay last year then read the reviews and wished I had gone elsewhere. However, when we got there found the parking easy. I found a spot right at the side of the hotel under a light and camera - no evidence of criminal activity. Left the car there for our whole stay and used the bus. Obviously left nothing in the car and left glovebox open and radio front taken away, but would have done this anyway. Bus was £3.50 each for a whole day ticket and can use as often as you like and only 15 minutes into town - great value and... more
good vaue
we stayed for a two night break. i was a little nervous about leaving the car after reading other reviews but there was no need to worry the car park is well lit with several cameras, The rooms are basic but very clean, the food in the pub is ok very reasonable and you get what you pay for. there was a quiz on the sunday night which we stayed for and reaally enjoyed. one tip is to use the park and ride which is only a couple of mins away and costs £2 per person as it cost us £9,50 to park all day in york as the hotelis a good distance... more
peaceful
We went for my 60th birthday treat. It was one of the few hotels available for 2 nights at a reasonable price,(£65 per night). We arrived at about 2.45 and booked in by a very pleasant young lady who explained everthing in detail and allayed our fears about the car parking problems (we had no problems whatsoever and there were quite a few cars parked ) the room was generally quite clean and tidy apart from the windows being covered in mildew, having no catches and constantly falling open. however the bathroom could have done with a... more
Excellent!
My partner and I stayed here and found the hotel to be great for a stopover. Clean, large well equipped rooms, friendly staff. Breakfast the following morning was excellent and had good choice of bagels, croissants, yogurts, fruit, hams, cheese and the usual tea, coffee and juices. Price a bit OTT at £62 per night but hey it is York after all.
Great Value For Money
We have just returned, from a weekend in York, and after reading some of the reveiws on your site l was a little worried about staying, as your reviews stated that there were problems with vandels in the car park, and unpleasent staff. The truth about this inn is that there were absolutly no poblems whatsoever, and the staff could not have been more helpful. The food was above average , and if you want even better value for money use the 3 for 2 offer at weekends. To sum up l would not hesitate to recommend, and would certainly stay again
Cheap and very cheerful
We booked our weekend trip on the Hotel's website and managed to get a brilliant deal because we booked it in advance. It was only £30 a night and that included breakfast. When we first arrived there was broken glass on 4 of the car parking spaces - not a good start. However, we were assured that if we took everything out and opened the glove compartment we would be fine. The room was quite impressive. It was quite large and everywhere was clean, the bed was really comfortable and the en suite had a power shower. It was only... more
Good value for York
Some of us TAers arranged a night out in York and I had the job of hotel hunting. Almost all of the hotels required 2 night stays, or got bad reviews on here/were really expensive. Then I found The Black Bull (inkeepers lodge). Really easy to find, check in is in the pub attached. My only concern was on check in he asked where I'd parked and said that it was best to park in the well lit areas of the car park cause they'd had a lot of car break-ins and to take everything out the car and leave the glove box open. I was really... more
Great Hotel, Sometimes first impressions can be wrong.
We arrived at the Inn Keeper's Lodge in York early in the morning at the beginning of September, the outside of the Black Bull pub that is linked to the hotel looked very nice, but on pulling up in the hotel car park we were very worried at what we had booked as two cars had their windows smashed and glass was still next to them. I popped into the pub to see if it was ok to leave our car and our cases in the boot to spend the day in York and book in later, I was told that was fine. We spent the day in York, enjoying the city, but... more
