Lovely Stay
We stayed at the Three Queens on October 19th 2008. We booked in the Elizabeth Suite. The room was huge! The bathroom was great. Jacuzzi bath, his and hers basins, and a seperate shower. Not forgetting the yellow duck on side of the bath. There were chocolates placed on the pillows when we arrived. When we made a coffee, the kettle was not clean inside at all. The evening meal. I could not fault. The steak was absolutely beautiful. Presentation of the food as well was really good. Everything was hot and fresh. The staff are... more
Hard to find but worth it
I have the pleasure of travelling all the UK staying in hotels and have to say that i always try and book this hotel for business as well as pleasure (Alton Towers). It can be a right bugger to get to, but once you have negotiated the one way system you get a lot of "unique" services that i never find in other hotels. From the complimentry "car wash", to the cup of tea, coffee or orange juice, brought to your room at a pre-booked time in the morning (see below for more advice). On my last visit I had my car washed (by hand),... more
Fab!
I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions, because I have had the misfortune of having to go to Burton on Trent for business purposes. The Three Queens is the high point of the whole experience. I have stayed in a regular room, one of the outside suites (like little houses within a courtyard in the hotel, and also one of the main suites in the main building (the Elizabeth suite). If you are looking for a more luxurious experience, the Elizabeth suite is very well priced as it is a large suite, complete with fire place and... more
Very Enjoyable
We attended a wedding here during December and can only have praise for the whole experience. During the day Nigel and his team not only made the Bride and Groom feel special, but ensured we as guests were also made to feel special. The whole day was well organised, good service, excellent food and a lovely atmosphere. The room we had was very nice, clean and very comfortable, perhaps alittle quaint, but a lovely break before the Christmas period. On this experience, we would both deffinately stay here again.
Smokers Heaven?
In these days of 'political correctness', how nice to find an establishment that caters for all it's customers and not only the majority, as a lot of the major chains seem to do these days. As a smoker it was a pleasant change to find an hotel that was happy to accommodate my 'filthy' habit, yes I was only allowed to book a standard room, I found the room to be both comfortable and clean, with no lingering aromas of like minded occupants. The hotel itself is ideally situated for the town of Burton and the many attractions in the area.... more
Poor quality attrocious service
The hotel room was dismal and had a stale smoke aroma. There are no standard rooms that are non-smoking. It is poor value for the price when you consider what you can get for similar prices in the large chains, where a guest knows exactly the standard of room they will get. Rooms at this hotel do not compare, even so independent hotels can often provide additional extras that make them attractive but the service here was disappointing and certainly would not . Breakfast looked potentially good with a wide choice but there it ended.... more
Steer Clear!
I stayed here for one night only thank goodness - booked for me. My room stank of cigarette smoke. The bathroom had cobwebs in the corners and the bath looked like it had been groated and sealed by a child - a mess! with yellowing shower-head and mold in the corners to finish it off. The bedspread had stains on it and nets looked like they could do with a good wash, But they went to the effort of putting stale mints on the pillow and a wrapped carnation!!! just what you need when travelling on business. All the standard... more
A Little Gem
As a lady travelling regularly for business I seek a feelng of security, friendly approchable staff and above all recognition. No filling in of registration cards when you arrive (they have all your details from the registration), shown personaly to a well presented room by a member of staff every time I arrive. Then the little extras, my blouse ironed overnight when it is crumpled from the carrier, a chilled Orange juice brought to my bedside, an excellent breakfast and amazingly, my car washed! Yes the rooms vary in size, but it does date... more
Pathetic. Vegetarians Beware
Completely Overpriced. The rooms are tidy enough and cleaned daily. There's a small minibar type refreshment draw/tray with teacups, mints and a few biscuits, and also tea and coffee which was a nice touch, but my room seemed to be overpowered by an extremely strong and sickening smell that i can only describe as the smell of blocked and putrid drains, unsuccessfully masked by another sickening smell of vanilla air freshener which only masked the other smell for a short while. Not only was my room affected by this smell, but the... more
Should be better
I stayed at the 3 Queens to be close to the town centre for business resaons. My Secretary lives in the area and told me it is the best hotel in Burton. That's probably true but it is far from good. The whole building is in poor condition and looks dreadful from the approach roads. My room was small and in need of re-decoration. The bathroom was tacky with broken fixtures. There's a strange mixture of quality let down by shabbiness. There's a good car park and they clean your car overnight, but they hadn't got round to mine when I... more
Management response from Old_Hotelier

Your reviewer says that he whole building is in poor condition looks dreadful from the approach roads. We are in a conservation area and have won awards from the civic society for the tasteful restoration done to the two buildings dating from 1531 and 1770. We have spent over £500,000 in the last three years restyling our bedrooms and the whole of the ground floor area acheiving an 80% quality rating from the AA putting us in the top four 3 star hotels in Staffordshire. I hope the guest will revisit with an open mind which was probably clouded by his previous visit to Burton upon Trent at the Grail Court hotel, a nightclub with rooms. Finally, we do wash all of the guests cars but we can only do this in the daylight so they cannot all be finished by 8am but if you ask when going into breakfast we will always make your car a priority. Fruit and cerials are clearly listed on the menu, how sad that he should feel that good service comprises a guest having to serve themselves from a buffet counter.

Mutton dressed as lamb
After driving around for ages trying to find a hotel after a trip to Alton Towers, we cam across this hotel. They had one suite available and it looked nice from the outside. There's nothing actually wrong with this hotel but it has delusions of randuer. It wants to be a five star hotel but just scratch a little beneath the surface and you'll find that it has all the qualities of a 2+/3 star. Clean and comfortable, breakfast was OK (apart from the blandest beans ever). And we though a bit overpriced at £95 per night (though on check-out... more
