Mothers Day Lunch
Having previously dined at the Villu Toots restaurant I eagerly anticipated my mothers day lunch there. My children having chosen this as a suitable venue. The meal lived up to my every expectation. Greeted by friendly staff we had a pre lunch drink at the bar and after choosing our meal we were shown to our table. We had chasen the Warm Bacon and cheese salad and the Salmon Parcel for starters and they were excellent in both presentation and quality. From a wide selection of main courses we chose the Roast Beef, my what a... more
A great weekend
We had a really good weekend in January. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist and shown to our room. The room had recently been refurbished and had a very relaxing atmosphere. We dined on both evenings in the Villa Toots restaurant where the food and service were excellent. Will go again later in the year.
Excellant three day break
My husband and I stayed at the Balmoral in January, celebrating our wedding anniversary. What a wonderful place to celebrate such an occassion! The room was furnished to a high standard with antique furnishings, including four poster bed, co-ordinating fabrics and wall coverings. Our first evening was spent in the hotel restaurant, 'Villu Toots' where our only problem was what to choose off the menu. The second night we ate at a restaurant in the town centre, big mistake! You can guess for yourselves where we ate on our final evening,... more
Old & Tatty
Booked the hotel for two nights as a suprise Birthday present for my wife, but it was me who got the suprise!! £150 a night for a room which was grotty to say the least. Upon arrival I was shown to the room which was unclean and I had to request they vacum the carpet, which they then did in one of the three rooms. The windows were filthy and the wallpaper was coming off in places. I had booked for 2 nights and had to leave after one which was a great relief, to think that they would charge £300 pounds for a two night stay... more
excellent atmospheric and friendly
A very pleasant weekend. ideally situated, pleasant rooms, and friendly service. excellent restaurant.
REALLY improved - WHAT an improvement - GREAT - LOVELY
We recently stayed again at the Balmoral Hotel in Harrogate having stayed there about 5 years ago and it was LOVELY. What an improvement. The restaurant, Villu Toots looks absolutely lovely, having been recently redecorated with really nice colours; even better than when it was first set up. The food is great, well cooked and imaginatively presented. The menu had one factor - I do not remember the last time I could say this - every single dish on the menu appealled to me and I thought the prices were most reasonable - adding to the... more
Did not live up to expectation... so I checked out!
This hotel needs some serious refurbishment to keep its reputation. We booked to stay at the hotel last month. On arrival we were shown to a small room at the top of the house. It was very dowdy and reminiscent of a down on it's luck B&B. The full rate was £110 per night including breakfast which was ridiculous given the standard of the room. We checked out and got a room at the Hotel du Vin which was cheaper (£85) and of a much higher standard.
fantastic weekend break
we booked a weekend break at the balmoral to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The standard of accomodation, food and staff was all excellent. The staff were helpful and chatty without being intrusive. The restaurant food and service was excellent, we eat in the restaurant for 2 evening meals and had breakfast included in our deal. Room was very nice and we felt offered good overall value.
Overrated Hotel
We stayed for 2 nights at the Balmoral Hotel, Harrogate in April 2004. We were told when we made the reservation that the restaurant - Villu Toots was a wonderful dining experience. However, we were not informed when we made the reservation that the menu is exactly the same every night and most of the choices from every course had a ?4 or ?5 supplement - which made the meal very expensive when the cost is added on to what you have already paid for dinner, bed and breakfast! Harry's Bar is a small room at the front of the hotel, some of the... more
Fine food, Friendly staff
An exceptionally warm welcome awaits you at this homely, comfortable Harrogate hotel. The porcelain sleeping cats which serve as 'do not disturb' signs are a good indication of the cheery, relaxed nature of this city centre gem.Staff at perfect ease with the public, and a proprietor with a long and illustrious history in the trade, leave a lasting impression.Four poster rooms are a nice touch for a special occasion - though the bathroom was rather plain. That aside, a wealth of warm pristine towels and a basket of luxury bathroom toiletries... more
