Loch Ness Clansman Hotel

We had not planned to stay at the Clansman hotel, however the inn we were booked at was so far out of the way and such a long drive from anything that we chose not to stay there and look for another place. We found the Clansman on the other side of the Loch, closer to Inverness, the Great Glen and Drummandochit. We were able to just walk in and luckily get a room for 2 nights but it was at the back of the hotel and was VERY small for 3 adults. My wife and I Stayed here last week for a few days and loved it! Excellent room overlooking Loch Ness, beautiful Lounge Bar and Restaurant with panoramic views - varied menu and good prices, compared with most in the area. Lots to see and do in the area - definately be back! Food was fab.! For those that stayed in a smaller room at the back (Standard Room - which I peeked in to) ..... pay the extra 20 quid for goodness sake for a Loch View Deluxe Bedroom (as I Did) - it's the only Loch Ness Side Hotel!!! Our family of four (two teenagers) stayed one night at this delightful hotel. We did not have a reservation and just drove in at around 5:00pm. We got a family suite of three rooms at 145 pounds. It consists of a main room with a double bed, a side room with another double and a tiny room with a bunkbed for two. The suite is located at the "lodge" off from the main hotel building. After booking this hotel for a family reunion I stumbled across this site and after reading the reviews I was terrified of what reaction I was going to get from my party! Some of our family are very difficult to please and I was the one doing the arrangements. Anyway it was too late to change our plans and we were MORE than delighted with this hotel!!! OK! the room wasn't brilliant but it was clean. The rest of the hotel though was absolutely fine and the veiws from the restuarant were great and the food was good value and very tasty. The staff were extremely helpful and if ever we had to wait for anything or they felt they had not come up to scratch they immediately offered to compensate us - even though we had not felt the need to complain. We stayed at this "Hotel" during the summner of this year. Totally rubbish! Rooms are small and smell horrid. We ate in the bar restaurant and the food was just deep fried stuff that youd find in a burger joint! Staff were okay, although the woman at the reception was particularly unpleasant both on arrival, during and as we left. She couldn't have cared less. We would strongly advise staying at the cheap place thats very EXPENSIVE.

We organised a special family trip to Loch Ness and found this place through Scottish Tourist Board who recommended it as 3 star accomodation. However everyone in our group was very dissapointed by the 1980s feel of the bedrooms and musty and smoky smell to the bedrooms. 4 Luxury loch view rooms on the ground floor that have been renovated are the only ones which are non smoking. All in all a very bad experience that we won't be hurrying to repeat. More suited to budget coach trips and hostel style accomodation than charging 4 star... more

After reading the other two reviews of this hotel it is making me wonder if they stayed at the same place as me?! We only stayed here for one night and that was more than enough. The hotel is located on the shore of loch ness but that is its only plus point. We had a room at the back of the hotel with a 'forest view' (scruffy dirt bank view more like) The room itself was small and grubby and smelled funny. We didnt try the restaurant for dinner as the smell and look of it was more working mans club than nouveaux cuisine! Breakfast was ok... more

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights of our honeymoon in August 2004 and we really loved the location right on the loch. The hotel itself does have a restaurant and bar and the food was just fine. The rooms although did have sort of a smell about them .. musty? maybe. Drumnadrochit is close by and we HIGHLY recommend The Fiddlers Cafe - awesome wonderful awesome. Get it? GO THERE! The Clansman is a great home base for exploring the highlands.

Stayed a week ago, stayed in Loch View Deluxe Bedroom, overlooking Loch Ness. Excellent room, view fabulous. Had a wonderous meal in the Observation Lounge Bar. Will return asap. Great value, service, cleanliness. Went on a boat trip from the harbour opposite the Hotel the next day.
