The room itself was adequate. Nothing special and overlooking a carpark. There were no individual heating controls apart from being able to open the window a small bit. The hotel was boiling at the time I was staying. The weather outside was sunny and hot and it seemed the... more

Avoid like the Plague
I should have checked out Tripadvisor before booking! but as this was chosen from a list of hotels supplied by the conference organisers I wrongly assumed that they'd be OK. After spending a dreadful night enduring noise from both the clubbers opposite and taxi drivers sounding horns (this went on till approx 5.30am) I asked hotel reception if they could complain to both the Police and the City Council and was informed that this would be no good as they don't pay any attention. Frankly they weren't sleeping there so they didn't care. My... more
So this is what Hell is like.....
A common theme runs through most of the reviews about this hotel and I will reiterate it:- if you were thinking of coming here to relax and possibly sleep, then forget it! I travel widely in the UK and this must be the worst night at a hotel I have ever had the misfortune to spend £100 on. In common with other writers, the hotel maintained it did not get my booking, despite booking it through the Holiday Inn central booking service. In common with other writers I was stuck in a front facing hotel room overlooking the bus... more
Great if your Young!
You are right in the middle of town and yeah it is noisy but if you want a quite hotel book one in the country not in the city. You have a bar in the hotel with large plasma screens also a bar which opens at 9:00am. A great place for a central location and the people are very nice with a guard on the door at nights incase you lucky lads or ladies try and bring back Mr or Mrs mangled! I would honestly give it a 7/10. The guard on the door lost the other 3 points.
The Noise!!
My wife had stayed here earlier this year whilst on a course for her Bank. As a result of her unpleasant stay which included getting locked out her room for 3 hours and more waiting for a locksmith, the hotel had offered a complimentary one night stay. Although the stay was free I could not recommend it...the previous reviews about the noise are accurate....Although the windows are double glazed.......of sorts..........the exterior windows are the metal framed ones and don't close properly....so in effect there is only one proper set of... more
Shame about dustman at 5am
I didn't really have much choice of where to stay as my employer paid for it, sometimes i think he doesn't really like me! I've stayed in Birmingham City centre a few times and noise is a common feature of them all especially around 3am - 5am but thats city life. There are good points ot this hotel and bad good point first Really is only 5 minutes walk from new street station, (shame the hotel don't have the directions on their website though) and only 5 minutes to Bullring shopping area Breakfasts are usual... more
Not bad at all...
Stayed there this past weekend for a Doctor Who convention in the hotel (laugh if you must). Why on Earth does it have a fully decorated Christmas tree in the reception area? Complete with Christmas crackers and presents under it in July? I thought the room was cosy. I'v had bigger in other hotels but never really needed much space. This was perfect for me as I don't bring much luggage. Food was lovely and room service extremely prompt. Scampi and chips room service arrived within what must have been 10 - 12 minutes or... more
what a terrible stay
Stayed at this hotel for 1 night in July. Check in was ok,,,given a room. The room looked like it the sort you would expect in a B & B in a seaside resort in the 1970's. The furniture was dated, the room was filthy. The bathroom had been cleaned but there were hairs left on the toilet,,,yuck,,,the carpet was threadbare, The room had been given a quick clean,,,but is in desperate need of a deep clean,,ie skirting boards, surfaces cleaned. The hotel has lots of work going on at the moment,,,so for an hour after i checked in there was... more
No sleep for the Peaceful ....
Situated not too far from the railway station this had the potential to be a useful hotel. In reality its in a very noisy location - opposite pubs and clubs that did not shut down 'till gone 3am. This problem was exacerbated by the broken air con and the need to keep the window open. Reception had my reservation wrong and in the short term it was only sorted out by up-grading. This problem is now with my booking agent. The public rooms are 70's British Tired and could do with a serious make-over. Dinner - never a strong point in... more
The best hotel if you fancy a sleepless night!!
Oh how I wish I had read the reviews on this website before booking to stay in this hotel then I would never have made such a frightful error as assuming that I might actually get a decent nights sleep here!! Despite a swift check in and thankfully a refurbished room (with plasma screen and power shower) the warning bells started when we returned to the room after dinner and found the noise rather loud but hey it wasnt quite past 10pm (surely this cant be a 24 hour occurence) so decided to retreat for a (rather expensive) drink at the... more
Was surprised!
I booked this through Expotel and got a rate of £71/night for a single including breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised for the price, actually. The lobby was bright, my room was clean and though the furniture could be classed as slightly shabby by a very picky person, it was absolutely fine for my one night stay. The bed was not lumpy (the more I travel the more this becomes a big issue for me - and the Holiday Inn was just fine). My 5th floor room was quiet and the location is very very central close to New Street. <br... more
