Nice relaxing hotel if a little dated
Treated very well with a lovely basket of fruit and chocolates delivered to our room. The room was a little old fashioned but was very clean and the hotel was nice and quite with good facilities and pools etc.. Very good value for money.
Great break in Al Ain
We (2 of us and 2 small children) wanted a break from Dubai and the Intercon in Al Ain was great. We stayed in a King Executive Suite which was good value and gave us a bit of extra space to relax. Extra matresses for the children provided free of charge. The hotel is quite old and a little bit tired, but the staff are fab and it has a really good, friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The pool attendants and lifeguards deserve a special mention as does the girl giving salsa lessons to a mixed bunch of enthusiastic students outside on Friday... more
Relaxing in the oasis
We came to the Intercontinental at Al Ain exhausted after a sleepless night previous thanks to a room that was too close to the disco at the Mercure Jebel Hafeet. The Intercon saved the weekend. Elegant reception with efficient check-in, we had a beautiful suite with a huge separate bedroom, huge walk in wardrobe and large well lit bathroom with a swing out make up mirror. There were sliding doors from both the bedroom and lounge opening onto a patio with a table and chair setting. It even had its own kitchen, not that we used it. <br... more
Escape from Dubai
Al Ain and this hotel is the perfect place to escape the hustle, bustle and prices of Dubai, rent a car and drive back into Dubai (or Abu Dhabi) for day trips and you have still saved a bundle of money as Al Ain hotel prices are much lower than Dubai. The air is clear the nights cooler and I have never experienced the flies talked about in an earlier posting. The rooms are large. The service is a little more laid back than in Dubai, but I think I prefer that.
Good Hotel and Excellent Value
Okay, I’m going to come at this from a slightly different perspective! We’ve just returned from our second visit to the InterContinental Al Ain…I just never got round to writing a review last year! Now, I’ll set you a challenge for some guaranteed spring sunshine. Find me return flights to Dubai over Easter, a weeks B+B in a spacious hotel suite and car hire/transport for £650 each? You’ll be lucky to even get close just for the flight price alone! We’ve stayed at the Royal Meridien and the Jumeirah Beach before and they... more
Great time except for flies
Hotel is a little tired and some updating is ongoing to bring the hotel out of the 80's. Food was good and the pools excellent. Service was a little haphazard at times. A new spa should be opening soon. Main problem was the flies which made eating outside extremely unpleasant. Thomson Fly flight crews resting by the pools eventually resorted to spraying themselves and the sun loungers with fly spray to escape the plague. Please let us know if this is a seasonal one off -- as we would like to go back if this has been solved.
Best of an average bunch
Hotel is big and the rooms are very spacious and comforatble. Staff are friendly enough, but do not go that extra mile and in most five stars in England, you will be escorted to your room, not in Al Ain - a finger is pointed in the direction of the lift. Pools are great. Renovation was happening at the time of our stay to the Horse and Jockey pub (fine by us, but it did mean access to the pool area is via a strange route). Tanjoure restaurant has excellent food, but Luce was a disappointment -, cold pizza and a wailing singer. It... more
Hotel in the desert
Very average hotel, with large rooms but with no particular style. It's more like a very very beutiful motel than an Intercontinental: anyway, it seems much better than the Hilton Al Ain. Very good Italian restaurant Luce (Light) with a real good italian chef (Rudi, at the present time). Large swimming pool with a pool bar and an olympic swimming pool. Helpful staff.
relaxing stay
We were impressed ! This is certainly a great hotel for relaxing / vacation. The room is big and clean with full facilities.
a true oasis
We stayed at the Intercontinental in Al Ain over Christmas and enjoyed every minute. Al Ain is an oasis town in the middle of the UAE, roughly equidistant from Abu Dhabi and Dubai. For a change of scene from these cities, it is an excellent choice. The hotel is four to five star, with excellent restaurants (Indian, Italian, international, English pub, Asian fusion/seafood) and leisure facilities. Wonderfully and genuinely friendly staff made us feel at home. Rooms are beautifully appointed - we used the business options package to... more
