Alexandra House

This hotel may be in the middle of nowhere and a little corperate but my wife and I have found the service, staff and help nothing short of superb. OK, we used to live in Swindon years ago so we can get to places in town OK. We came to the hotel for a visit after moving away. We had the dinner the two nights we were there, excellent. The second time we needed breakfast at 2am so we could catch a flight from Bristol...There was breakfast at 1.45am and more than we could eat!!!!! The pool and all facilities great. Conference centre/ Hotel in a pleasant setting a few miles out of Swindon, had a couple of nights there, and like I say can,t really fault it, lovely clean rooms, everything you could want at breakfast and use of a nice clean modern leisure club, Cracking.

I stayed at the Alexandra house based on some favourable reviews on this website. Its very difficult to find tucked away in the middle of a random field down lots of winding country lanes, I feel sure I would have got lost without the satnav. I arrived at midnight- the room was cold and had a light covering of dust as if it hadn't been used for a while. The bathroom was very small and pokey. Modern hotel with pool, gym and games room. It is designed as a conference centre and isn't busy at weekends so the restaurant tends to be shut except for breakfast. We had to drive into Swindon (a few miles) to find somewhere to have lunch. The bar was rarely tended and you had to telephone for someone to come and serve you. Just a one night stay, but couldn't have asked for a nicer place. The lesiure facilities are very good & extremely clean, really enjoyed a swim, sauna, steam & jacuzzi before dinner. The restaurant was very spacious, it was very nice not to be practically sat on top of your fellow diners as you can be in some places. The food was excellent quality & obviously fresh. The hotel is nearly new, and is enormous with full leisure facilities. The rooms are top-class and couldn't be faulted, with comfortable beds and pillows. Nice buffet breakfast and friendly staff. Only drawback is its location, which is in the country, several miles from Swindon, and even sat nav had difficulty finding it.

We booked last minute to stay on a Saturday evening. They were really good. We arrived late but were still welcomed to use the facilities such as swimming pool etc which we did. The pool is lovely just right size and very clean amenities on site. The room was very modern, spacious and fresh. Free tea/coffee supplied in room and plasma screen TV, iron and trousrer press. Stayed for two nights, rooms are spacious and modern and only lacking a fridge, but as a previous reviewer stated, there is free tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks - fruit, mini chocolate bars and ginger cake, cherry energy bar etc. available all day in the lounge bar. We had dinner on the first night, which is charged at £5 per starter, £15 per main and £5 for dessert - so £25 for a 3 course meal, and the food was first class. My wife wrote a review about our stay at this centre back in March. We decided to stay again over the May Bank Holiday weekend and sometimes the old cliche of it never being as good the second time round pops up - let me just say it was even better. On the Sunday we were going walking in Sailsbury and the lovely lady on reception offered us a packed lunch to take with us. How nice was that? I stayed here for two nights on business in October having booked through Lastminute. I was previously staying in the Swallow Village Hotel which I have also reviewed, but checked out of there early!!! The hotel is quite remote but is in a lovely setting, with a fantastic free-to-use health club (pool, sauna, steam, gym), two bars (although the smaller American style bar didn't seem to open when I was there, but you could use it's pool table) and restaurant. This place is primarily a conference centre, however it is also a hotel. It has only been open a few months and the rooms are modern and clean. The service was excellent throughout, the food was good and the bar is good to relax in and shows Sky Sports. Only negatives for me are that the location (although not far from J16 of M4) is quite remote, and I didn't get any phone signal with Vodafone.
