Good place to stay
New hotel in the Gunwharf's Quay. Only a 10 minute walk from the town centre and very convenient for the ferry ports. Welcoming reception staff, large, clean room which was very comfortable. Basic buffet breakfast, but OK. Surrounded by plenty of restarunts ( some giving discounts to hotel residents) and shops, and the Spinnaker tower with great views. Would definetly try to stay here on next visit - after staying at the Ibis the previous evening when this was full it was a welcome improvement; more expensive but better value for money
Good Quality
regularly stay here! Good quality hotel, rooms nicely furnished, found breakfast to be off good quality, price however a little high!
Very nice hotel
We stayed in Portsmouth for one night in early April, 2006. The hotel was very lovely. The staff were helpful, the room very clean, and breakfast was large with a good variety. The hotel called a taxi for us, at no charge, as we were taking the ferry to France early the next morning and needed to get the the Continental Ferry Port. Everyone was very helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel. It was very close to the ocean and the historic shipyards. It was also not far from the train station; about a 7 minute brisk walk.
Great for history buffs
This is a modern hotel in the Holiday Inn Express chain, situated in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth. If you want to visit the Historic Naval Dockyards, then it's ideal as it is only a few hundred yards away from the entrance. The hotel is also near the Spinnaker which is definitely worth a trip as the views are great. There is still a lot of development going on at Gunwharf Quays which is currently restricting drive up access to the hotel door. This means parking in an underground car park and walking a few hundred yards to the hotel... more
Awful Just don;t do it.
Terrible staff attitue, we had three rooms booked, all had minor problems. We asked to use an iron & ironing board but they said they didn't know who had it (does that mean they only have one!) After repeately returning to reception to ask if it had appeared we got one this took nearly two hours. overcharged us on the room tarrif quoted on the phone & watch out for the parking charges which are not mentioned until it's too late. Never going back as this was the second chance & they failed miserably again.
It's OK, not great
We (2 adults and 2 chidren aged 5 & 2) stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel itself is clean and modern and in a fantastic location right in the middle of shops and restaurants. Parking was a bit of a problem. You park in the Gunwharf Quays carpark, but there are no signs telling you where the hotel is and if you've parked in the right spot ( to get parking validated). We had to ask directions twice. It is only a 5 minute walk, but it's a hidden entrance and as I said, there are next to no signs until you actually get to the hotel... more
Quiet and comfortable
We stayed for only one night mid-week during off-season. Admittedly, our experience might have been quite different had we stayed on a summer weekend. The hotel is in a great location right in the heart of the Gunwharf Quays entertainment and shopping area. Rooms are quiet and had just about the most comfortable bed we have ever found in any hotel. Equipment is pretty much standard for a budget hotel. While the breakfast buffet is not much to write about, noone has to start the day going hungry :) The price was right, so... more
Everything I wanted
I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now. The last stay was for two nights in mid-October 2005. The hotel is modern and clean. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I have never had problems with noise as I read that another reviewer was complaining about. The only time I heard any noise was when I slept with the window open and woke up early next morning when they started doing construction work outside. I closed the window, went back to sleep and didn’t hear anything afterwards. The hotel has a nice dining area where they... more
