Mutton dressed as lamb.
I stayed at this hotel with colleagues for three nights. We booked the hotel via a company credit card over the phone. When we arrived we were forced to provide personal credit cards to have a 'pre-auth' for room extras - i.e TV/internet charges. This means that they 'lock' £90 on your bank account and you cannot use it until you check out of the hotel. This is an outrageous procedure to impose without warning. We were not told about this at the time of the booking. The staff were pretty average. I didn't have much need to speak... more
Management response from REManager

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to read that your stay has been anything less than satisfying. Please allow me to respond to the various issues during your stay. I appriciate that you have taken the time to write a detailed review of you stay. Although your review is straight to the point, it has provided me with a prefect insight of our hotel. I trust that you will find my reply to be slightly late but I have taken some time to investigate and to improve on certain issues that you have addressed. A pre-auth is taken from each guest upon arrival. This is common practice in city centre hotels. It is to cover any additional charges, however there is always the option not to leave a swipe of your card. This means that you will be unable to charge anything to your room, or to use the internet and movies in the room. I am sorry that this option has not been offered to you. I apologize for the fact that my staff did not seem to be happy, I can assure you that this is usually percieved different. My security, indeed, asked questions, however these are in our guests best interest as they need to ensure that we haev a safe hotel for all guests to enjoy. Unfortunately, door security is needed on Friday and Saturday as not all guests will treat the hotel and fellow guests with the same respect as you probably would. We have made and are still implementing improvements to our breakfast as I can only agree that the offering and the service has not been up to the standard and did not constitute value for money. We will shortly introduce, more fresh fruit, individual jam portions, a bigger bread selection, better quality hot food items and overal breakfast presentation will improve as well. Our housekeeping department is looking closely at the towels as they are washed in house and there is no reason why towels with stains shouln't be picked up. Your comment of the noise in the interconnecting rooms has been brought to my attention by other guests as well. We are looking into improved sound proofing. However I expect that this will take a little more time to resolve than some of the other issues that you addressed. We display our from rate on our flags outside the hotel. This is currently £49. The only place we could have displayed £109 would have been on the duty manager board. However this displays the rate of the day. Rates in the city centre of Brimingham fluctuate per day and this is all based on the demand in the city. A room booked far in advance will always be cheaper than a room booked on the day of arrival. I hope that the above have cleared a few of the issues but I truly hope that you want to stay with us again. I am keen to show that we offer a fantastic product with excellent customer service. I appriciate that in this instance we have failed to impress. Please contact me directly to discuss any of the above issues in more detail and to see how I can convince you to stay with us again! Once again, thank you for your detailed review. I look forward to hear from you. With kind regards,

Really convenient for the NEC
We stayed for one night at end of Oct 09 after attending a concert at the NEC. Its lovely & clean the reception staff were helpful & the main attraction of it is that its within walking distance of the concert venue.
ok for one night
Travelled with daughter for shopping trip. Hotel about ten minutes from new street station in a very untidy area of birmingham. Felt a little intimidated - do not use under pass. Hotel lovely modern and very clean. Bedroom adequate for one or two nights stay. Beds very hard. It was very noisy at night with doors slamming so choose a high floor away from lifts for I would think a more peaceful nights sleep. Would use again as price very good and I like modern new and clean which this was. Excellent meal at restaurant in Chinese... more
Clean, quiet, good location
This is a new hotel within 10mins walk from New Street Station. It is also therefore convenient to the main shopping hotspots, the Mailbox and the Bull Ring Centre with Selfridges. And to the Symphony Hall, the CBSO centre, etc. And as a bonus, it is only a few minutes to the Glanville Street stairs down to the canalside walk (just go left out of the hotel and then right at the Peace Garden). The rooms are a reasonable size, with good curtains and shower/toilet room. I asked for a quiet room and was given one on the 6th floor, well away... more
Modern, clean, great value for money, right in city centre
Birmingham City Centre is not an attractive place, quite run down, and this is no different of the area where the hotel is situated. That said, there are also several other nice hotels within a small area, inc the Mal Maison, so if you can get over the unattractive location, everything else is great. The Ramada Encore is a simple, contemporary, brand new hotel. The room was average size with a modern bathroom and wet room, and clean, contemporary furnishings in the bedroom. This hotel represents great value for money, 5 mins walk from the... more
Okay if you are traveling alone on business
Let me start with the good things about the hotel. The location seems good. It is near a shopping center called the Mailbox with lots of restaurants and shops. It is near the Sea Life Aquarium which walked to and enjoyed. Everyone who worked there was very helpful. We had no problems with staff or our reservation or getting the room we wanted. There is free internet in the lounge and there is a bar set up like in train stations for you to plug it in and sit as long you like. The internet in the room, on the other hand is expensive.... more
Excellent Hotel at a great price
Great recpetion staff, right in to city centre, large-ish rooms very clean if a little basic. Great looking restaurant and bar. An excellent hotel at a really good price.
Excellent Budget Stay
Stayed here for 2 night for a short weekend break in August, Found hotel last minute and was extremely impressed. Had previously used travelodges for budget stays but will use this hotel from now on. Clean spacious rooms, excellent base to explore birmingham... 10 min walk to Bullring and New Street.
Excellent quality at a budget price
From arrival the hotel was excellent, reception was bright and clean and the staff were attentive and friendly, the bedrooms were large, modern and airy, and the shower wet rooms were also sizeable. The hotel is brand new so it did take a moment to work out where the parking was but this was a such a minor detail that it hardly rates at all. The follow up email was very prompt asking for feedback, and the only down side was the cost of internet access, but I received an email within 24 hours explaining the situation which was... more
Ramada Encore
Stayed at the Ramad for 4 nights in August. This is a brand new hotel, in fact the builders were still finishing work while we were there. The rooms are as sparse as possible with out even a wardrobe!!. Be prepared to live out of a suitcase in this hotel. No frills here:breakfast costs extra, broadband costs extra, parking costs extra etc. Staff aren't particularily welcoming although they were polite.Rooms were spotless and the hotel seems well run. If you are in Birmingham for a quick visit then I would recommend it but if you want a... more
