Extremely Pleasent

"We traveled by car from Abu Dhabi, reached in three and a half hour, JAL fujairah looks average from out side, but once you steped in you gonna feel the nice atmosphere. The staff is extremely helping and polite but the check in and check out procedure needs little improvement. Room was great, Facilites were excellent, our one and half year old and five year old daughters enjoyed alot. Specially the paddle boat ride and temperature controled kids swimming pool was great fun. They have two Kids play areas for small and big kids. JAL fujairah private beach was a nice treat for all of us, Breakfast was complementry and it was lavish. Good for family with kids and nice place to scape from terrible city life. Gonna go again and again."

Wonderful place to stay

"We had a weekend at this hotel in early November whilst staying with friends in Sharjah. Alghough it does look like a modern Butlins from the road, it is lovely inside. We did experience a problem with our rooms not being what we had requested and not being ready, but after an hour and a half of talking to the wrong person at reception, the Manager finally appeared and upgraded our friends and ourselves to 2 2-bedroom suites which were lovely.

We were very disappointed as the sea was brown, as previously stated by another visitor but this was due to a natural disaster called a red tide where algae has been stirred up out at sea, it then robs the water of all oxygen and unfortunately kills the fish. We therefor didn't get to swim on the coral reef which our friends had informed us was wonderful.

However, the pools (at least 4) were wonderful, with swim up bars and great bits for the toddlers. The lifeguards could not do enough for you, fetching towels, putting up parasols and moving beds. They were all lovely - and there were many - and they were great with the children also.

Our evening meal was superb, and the breakfast even better. The chef who states he makes the best waffles certainly lives up to his claim.

Yes, the Russians are rude, but that isn't the hotel's fault. Nor was the fact that the sea was in such a bad state.

get me out of here!!

"A drive up the attractive east coast leads you to JAL Fujairah hotel. first sight disappoints, a motley collection of blocks in a variety of pastel colours. Check in, the staff pleasant we are given room 1014, facing the sea we are told, in fact every room does. opon the curtains the sea is replaced by a very large marquee. It is 30 foot from the window and blocks the whole view. move to 2014, now we look at the roof of the marquee, still no sea. the porter agrees it is crazy and helps us move once more this time to the 3rd floor. We see the sea but the beach is empty not a soul in the water and the temperature is 38c. Off outside and all is revealed. The sea has been poisoned and the beach is devoid of humans but covered instead in fish that have died from the poluted waters. The smell is terrible. Hotel staff wearing masks are filling sacks from the waters edge, as soon as they get to one end of the property they return and start again. We are here for 5 nights but cannot possibly stay. Famed for its fish dishes how can we eat with confidence. Too late to move out we stay the night and try the restaurant. Total chaos. We wait over two hours for the two courses we requested, the food was very good but the waiting was made worse by the hotels lax attitude to children in an eating location after 8pm

We were continually buzzed by kids on roller blades, babies screaming, others fighting, and shouting it was beyond belief. We complained as did others but the staff said we have asked that they just sit and eat but they take no notice. 90% of the guests are Russian, it is certainly the dominating language and they seemed happy in this situation. returning to the room we are issued a note advising that the pool will be closed for the next two days for "water treatment". This at a time when the beach was off limits. The truth was that the pool was closed because the famous marquee had been set up as a major conference venue and the red carpet laid out as the entry passage was to take the honoured conference guests right past the pool. The note was a total sham, a lame excuse for a closure that was aimed at security rather than cleaning. Morning comes, again a childrens circus to spoil what was a good buffet and then we join the queue of Europeans at the check out desk. It was impossible to move outside the building line and feel comfortable. We leave and set out along with many to find a bed anywhere that is not on the east coast of the UAE or Oman. I should add this problem whilst not new is not the norm and was caused by the sea losing its oxygen for reasons never made clear to us. I also add that on advising Expedia of our dilemma they pulled all stops out to assist us change hotels.

3rd time, not so happy

"Had been to this hotel twice before mainly because of the dive centre which is well situated and managed. This time will be the last. The check-in was painfully long. They advised me that they were doing a fast room turn-around and the state of the room did regretfully reflect this. The state of the various white carpets and sofas in the long passages was also surprisingly filthy. Dirty black marks (some from the recent oil spills) all over the these. Don't the management or cleaners see this? The restaurant which was excellent on previous occasions, was poor. Despite repeating the order, they still presented the wrong main course resulting in one of our party waiting 15 minutes after the others had started. Then to add insult to injury a group of three short skirted girls started singing what could be described as amateur keraoke. I was pleased to get out of the restaurant. That said the pools are nice. Breakfast was very good and some staff really brilliant. It was nice to be remembered by Thomas after about 6 months."

Pleasantly surprised!!

"We have just returned from a four day break at JAL and I have to say it was really lovely. We didn't expect much from looking at the building and reading previous reviews. We stayed in a three bed suite and it was fabulous. The accommodation was very spacious overlooking the sea, as all rooms do I think. We had an outside terrace area too. The food was wonderful and lots of it!! What was outstanding though was the service and the staff. They remembered our names throughout and were very attentive. We travelled with our three children and they really enjoyed the boats and aqua play park in the sea. We will definitely be going back very soon!!"

3-year-old loved it; adults not so sure

"We had heard this hotel was good for kids and booked it as we were travelling with a 3-year-old. She absolutely loved it.

We booked a 'spacious' 1-bedroom Sakura suite, which was in Block 4. It was not that spacious, for example, the bedroom had no space for an extra child's bed. The furniture and carpets were stained and dirty; the balcony had not been cleaned - the sunbeds and the floor were filthy. The air-conditioning was so fusty and smelt so bad that we both started coughing within 5 mins of checking in. We went to reception and asked to move rooms.

Credit to the hotel, despite 100% occupancy, they moved us to a more spacious suite with clean a/c ducts in the main hotel - in fact, we realised they were aware of the a/c problem and they were not surprised to hear us complain.

Unfortunately our new suite was above the pool bar and was subjected to very loud music blaring out all day, but worse from 6pm to 10.45pm (Thu and Fri) - so loud inside the room that we couldn't hold a conversation or watch a movie. If you want peace and quiet, avoid blocks 2 and 3 which face the main pools and loud bar.

The next day we discussed this with the guest relations manager and she moved us to another suite at the far end of the hotel (Block 1), far from the music. This turned out to be quiet and everything we had hoped - but we were only in it for one night out of the three we were there.

The food at the hotel is ok, but very limited for vegetarians. The kids' menu is not bad, but the same in every restaurant. Breakfast was a sore point as the restaurant is simply not big enough - 90 covers for 350+ rooms. Staff stood at the lifts, turning people away and sending them upstairs to an empty restaurant, where a limited buffet was on hand. My request to be allowed to bring food items up from the larger, more comprehensive buffet downstairs was rejected by the staff. In the end we had to queue for a table downstairs. It was a bit chaotic but you got the idea that the hotel staff was doing all they could to make it work as best they could.

The hotel has two huge swimming pools, two kids' pools, a smaller pool, plus another pool for the sakura Suites. All were clean and there were lots of lifeguards on duty. The beach is lovely - we were told it was one of the nicest in Fujairah and I can believe that.

In general, we faced problems during our stay but were impressed by the staff's ability and willingness to help us find solutions. I don't think we will go back but if the loud music and mass tourism scene won't bother you, you could have a lovely stay there.

We will return if the pools are open in the mornings :) ....

"We have just celebrated our wedding anniversary with a 1 night stay. We booked a Deluxe room with an extra bed. Very spacious, had a lovely comfy king-size bed, and sofa, and even with the extra bed there was plenty of room. Our daughter loved the bath (with fold-back windows to allow tv viewing)....there's also a good shower (seperate).

All rooms with balcony & sea-facing. Slow check-in & check-out times - maybe need extra staff at such peak times?

The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful.

Room service food was fresh and tasty (often not the case in other hotels).

We also dined at Grand Bleu by the pool, & at Marco Polo - both very good. Prices cheaper than Dubai for food and drinks which is a very pleasant bonus. Easy-listening live music in the evening outside the lobby lounge - we sat & listened to it and the sound of the sea after a stroll along the beach.

Great selection of pools - 2 at one end of the resort , with a jacuzzi and playground, & at the other end are 2 free-form with swim-up bars (more staff needed there).

The one problem we encountered was these pools did not open till 10am. Disappointing when we sauntered down at 8.30am to be turned away. Personally I didn't like the beach - full of stones, washed up coral, shells etc. At times, there was also a strange foamy substance which we were told was due to nearby construction ( and which they cleaned up asap) .

We were not impressed at being told we couldn't use the pools as they had no lifeguard on duty - all 5 being used at the kids pool and beach...I suggested they need to open at least 1 of the pools or allow guests to swim at their own risk. (I just wanted to lie by the pool, read my book in peace and dip in the pool as required. :)

When I spoke to the manager on duty, he apologised and said they were aware it was not an ideal arrangement - other guests have also complained, and the management are currently considering changing this decision.

I said I will ring and check before we return :) He was very pleasant and gave me his card so I can contact him when we plan to visit again....

There are good kids facilities: a play-room for younger kids, another for older kids with Playstations, TV's etc, and a Games Room with ice-hockey, foseball & table-tennis.

There are also guys who wander around inviting people to join in volleyball, beach football, water polo etc.

Nice experience

"After having visited for the first time in September 2007 the hotel has now improved all their facilities and the team is doing well to maintain the standards.

The Japanese Restaurant is serving very good food and the Chefs are adding to the same with their good service.

Breakfast was great as well and the terrace is a very nice facility in the morning - just the right start for a nice day.

More TV channels with movies etc. would be great to be added.

Little bit of paradise away from Dubai!

"I stayed at the JAL hotel just before Xmas and i really have to say i was quite impressed with the place! The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was really a relaxing haven. Beach was nice although water was a little murky, we still swum and walked the beach to the rock pools further down. The swimming pools were gorgeous but very chilled. Food would have had to have been the highlight! AMAZING! Breakfast was a HUGE selection and all the food we ate especially the seafood was beautiful! Room was very nice as was the bath however the room smelt like dirt a little when you first walked in and my partner said the air-con was a little loud but this didn't bother me. I will be returning to JAL sometime in the future as it was a lovely place for an escape from Dubai for a few days!"

lousy beach and pool, questionable service

"Stayed here for one night as a brief weekend getaway from my home in Dubai.

Booked this hotel last minute only because the reliable Meridian Al Aqha down the road was fully booked.

The hotel is new, and rooms are nicely decorated.

Shared areas are a bit cramped and overall the hotel doesn't have much charisma. Looks like a fancy motel from street and looking at it from the beach.

The pool is relatively small, appropriate for wading and children usage. Not enough jets in the hotub, and the water is not heated.

The hotel beach is a problem. Most of the sand was obviously shipped in. It was a bit rough on the feet. The beach water is murky, and there are quite a few jagged stones under the surface.

Checkin is supposed to be at 2pm. We arrived for check-in at 330pm and were told that the room was not ready. Needless to say that this was extremely disappointing.

A much better alternative for a similar price would be the Meridian Al Aqha down the road.

Unforgettable stay

"I stayed with my family in this hotel which has great reception , housekeeping, restaurantss' staff. It was such a great holiday. All restaurants at the hotel offer a great menu and food (even delicious sushi). The rooms are very tidy and clean. Bathrooms overlooking the room and offering Bvlgari toileteries. There's such a great kids club offering HABA toys, my lil daugther stayed for 3 hours enjoying her time in every section of the club, they even do other activities such as drawing, face painting & crafts. The pool is very beautiful over looking the beach and a small pool for the little ones. A hotel worth a visit."

JAL - Can't wait to return

"Firstly, I have to say that I strongly disagree with any of the reviews that rate the JAL as anything but "perfect". We stayed from Aug. 10th 2007 for 10 days and cannot wait to return. The hotel is brand new with extremely tasteful decoration. Rooms are modern and of an exceptionally high standard. Staff are the most friendly and attentative that I have ever met and you really feel as if they are happy to do whatever they can for you. The choice of resturants including mediteranean, Japanese, Asian and Arabic were excellent. Guests booking half board have an a la carte selection rather than a buffet which we found delightful. A special mention also needs to go to the dive centre staff which made our three day PADI diving course three of the best days we have ever spent. I cannot possibly capture all the wonderful points about the JAL in a few paragraphs but would recommend anybody looking for a relaxing holiday in a quality 5 star hotel to go there. If I had to find a negative point about the hotel, the only thing I could really say is that the Life guards perhaps take their jobs a bit too seriously and follow you around the sea in a boat which can be a little annoying when you simply want to enjoy a swim in the calm waters. Other than that, simply a fantastic hotel !"
