Crowne Plaza Hotel Eilat

We were in Eilat as part of a conference and we were placed at tihs hotel because our booking was approved at the last minute. I've been to Eilat three or four times in the past - always at 5-star hotels - and I was struck by the difference between those accomodations and the Crowne Plaza. In its favor, the public areas are nice, particularly the lobby, and the room was more than adequate (though I don't like when hotels don't give individual bottles of shampoo, bubble bath, etc.). We (me, husband, 2 teenagers and a 7-year old) just came home from a 3-night stay at the Crowne Plaza, Eilat. I booked the hotel, forgetting to check the TA reviews (something I always do ...), because I have stayed in Crowne Plaza's in other parts of the world, and have always been very satisfied. I also received a 10% discount on the price for Israelis, since I am a Priority Cub member. High Season in August 2007, A dirty hotel. When checking into room found dirty linen, crayons drawings and crushed crackers left from previous guests. Clean up took time and then a sloppy job. Broken bathroom drains, broken locks on the room door. Lock repair on the door took hours, vacation time wasted. Management staff was not available for complaints. Wow, as usual people only write about problems. We are two adults and three kids aged 4-11. Once again I took the trouble to a)book two deluxe suites (not trying to be clever and save a few dollars) b) I requested rooms on an upper floor away from noise. We arrived and were actually quite impressed with the lobby, it looks in good shape. Check in was fine. The rooms were "holiday inn" type rooms and were clean and everything worked. The Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza is situated overlooking a lovely lagoon. This used to be a good hotel. I have just returned from a holiday there with the family and these are my comments : If you are a family with 2 kids, dont book a standard room, otherwise you will find yourself and the missus virtually sleeping in the same bed as your kids. At busy holiday times this hotel cannot cope and standards really fall. Corridors were not cleaned and strewn with litter. We had no towels for a day and a half. The chamber-maid confessed that they could not wash all the bedding and she was told to shake it and reuse it. It is geared to Israeli visitors and most signs (even those about safety) are only in Hebrew. The Crowne Plaza Eilat is, at best, on par with a typical Holiday Inn Express. The rooms are adequate - comfortable enough anyway - but they are extremely rundown and very basic. Not attractive at all. The pool area is ok, but it gets filthy as the day drags on since no one seems to clean it. Also, several times they ran out of towels and we had to wait around for almost hour before they were ready. We booked a family room, they put us (2 adults and 3 children) in 1 room. Eventually they moved us to a suite! (seperate bedroom for parents). It seemed ok. then we tried going to sleep!!! The hotel is so poorly buily that evey person that closes (slams) their door makes your room shake. The people above you might be walking in their room but sounds like banging. My wife, daughter and I stayed at the Crown Plaza in Eilat the first week of January. We booked two rooms. The hotel is modern, with beautiful architecture. The view from our 9th floor balcony was absolutely stunning! The rooms were modern and clean. The bathrooms were very nice, but could use more substantial towels, and something to make one a bit more steady on the slippery floor in the tub when taking a shower. This hotel is very nice with modern and clean rooms and bathroom extremely nice - all marble. Large balcony with nice view either of the pool or the landscape. Position is good, near to restaurants and shops - pretty much walking distance from everything.
