err.. not bad, but not good!
from Shipscaptain
I stayed overnight with my wife, young son and in-laws. We took two rooms and booked over the telephone, receiving a rate of £70 B&B. There was some confusion at the time of booking because after offering us the £70 rate, we received an email minutes later saying that in fact the rate was now £80!! It had gone up ten pounds in as many minutes! Well, a quick call through to reservations and a little gentle nudged that that wasn't good guest relations and the staff member concerned confirmed that they would honour the original £70 rate -...

Won't be Going Back
from AwayOnBusiness
I didn't expect much and generally the stay was ok but hotel very bland and a bit shabby, and Holiday Inn give the impression they are out to fleece their guests for whatever they can. Staff generally pleasant but right outside my ground-floor window I had to watch them smoking by the fire exit, next to a skip overflowing with rubbish (not one for the brochure!). Little things gave it a slightly cheapo feel... stained carpets, fag burns around the sink, a duvet cover that wasn't big enough for the duvet. Then I tried to use the 'broadband in...

Minging

Really shabby, smells of damp, needs a total renovation. A disgrace to the Holiday Inn chain (and that's saying something!). Breakfast was bearable but nothing sparkling. Try the Hilton if you have to stay around here.
Had a great stay here
from Loncat
We actually had our wedding reception and evening party here. Some of our family travelled to Newport and stayed here. Everyone had a lovely stay. Excellent refurbished rooms, were quite and cool. Plenty of choice on tne beverage tray. Very clean and spacious. Food was excellent - but far too much! The staff were brilliant and looked after everyone really well. Only problem was there were some very drunk young guests also staying at the hotel. In my opinion they probably shouldn't have been served - having been a...

make sure you get a decent room
from Devonbloke
Stayed here last week as I was at a conference there. My room was fine but one of my colleagues had a very unpleasant room. It was very dated, the bedding was dirty and the soft furnishings had some of the most revolting stains I had ever seen. The Bar area was ok as was the bar menu. The conference area was also very dated and shabby. Make sure you have a refurbished room.
Very poor value for money
from A TripAdvisor Member
£130 for a room in this place, without breakfast, is nothing short of daylight robbery. But, as this was the only room we could get on the Saturday night of the FA Cup Final, they had a captive market. We'd managed to get a room in the Thistle in Cardiff on the Friday for £35 less and with breakfast and in the middle of town, rather than being stuck on the motorway. The decor of the hotel could barely be more dated - they claimed it had been renovated in 2000 but it appears the upgrades were of such a poor quality that it had...

Great hotel
from Cybersafety
Thought this was a very good hotel for a weekend trip. Two comfortable twin beds, nicely decorated, clean room, warm and with windows which opened for fresh air. Lots of hot water and a bath as well as a shower. Breakfast was fantastic buffet, full English cooked, cereal, continental with cheese, ham as well as lots of fresh fruit like melons, pineapple, strawberries. We paid £59 per night and it was good value. Helpful friendly staff and breakfast from 7am even on Sunday which was ideal for people needing an early start. Hotel set in...

What a dump!!!
from KiddiWestMidlands
We are a late 30's couple, stayed 11/03/2006. It took 20 minutes to book in, only one person on reception. On the way to the room, corridors smelt strongly of damp. Got to room, had very poor and out of date decoration, we thought we would make the most of it. Decided to use the pool, queued a further 20 minutes to get towels and told we had to fill a form in for extra towels but they didn't have any towels and she couldn't leave reception, so come back later!! When we did get towels we used the pool, which was very small and dirty (used...

Excellent value- wonderful staff- but a bit dated.
from bkaz
this hotel offers excellent value for travellers attending events at nearby Cardiff Millenium Stadium; order a taxi and it is there within five minutes- go to railway station (taxi about £6, return train to Cadiff £3.50 return). Really useful when Cardiff hotels booked up because of big crowds. the hotel is a bit dated in decor and style but the staff could not have been nicer and more attentive- top marks. The room we had was great, lots of room, good bathroom, comfy bed and very clean- quiet too even though hotel full. The evening...

Fantastic breakfast
from A TripAdvisor Member
It's a pretty average hotel admittedly, but when have Holiday Inns ever been anything else? It's clean, functional and convenient - perfect for business travellers, but certainly not for families. I can't speak highly enough of the breakfast though, which was included in the price of the room. It's a hot and cold buffet, complete with an array of fruits, pastries etc. So if you've had a touch time on the business trip, at least you can look forward to having a full belly before you get on the road again.
Back to the 80's
from CheshireUKTraveller
I stayed here whilst attending a conference at the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel, which is 0.6 miles away and who wanted £225 per night for B&B! Interestingly, there are 3 hotels at the foot of the hill on which the Celtic Manor sits, and I suspect they pick up a lot of business from corporate clients with budgets to work to. The other 2 available are the Travelodge and a Holiday Inn - both just off J24 M4, as is this Hilton. In short - * Booked a non smoking room and was given a smoking room. * Taps leaked over the...
