Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa

Stayed here for 2 nights over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We booked a double room and a family room through a travel agent. We were told that we may need to pay £15 per night for the child (5 yr old - which we thought was a bit much as they usually go free) but on check out weren’t asked to pay any extra. Had a relaxing stay at the Macdonald Manchester this weekend. Only 5 minutes walk from Piccadilly Station, you cant miss it the hotel is HUGE! Check in fantastic they even let us check in 5 hours early! The hotel is very clean and modern, plenty of seating in reception and lifts up to the many rooms. Paid £80 for B&B which was excellent value. Room and bathroom very large and modern. Breakfast selection was very good but had to wait 15 mins to be seated as it was so busy. Overall however a very good value and quality hotel

Stayed overnight for one night as we had to be in the area and especially to dine out in a town restaurant we had had recommended. First impressions very bad, busy receptionist left on her own dealing with a large queue of people making enquiries, checking in, requesting taxis etc. We were unable to get parked in the Hotel car park as it was full. So we parked out the front temporarily and were barked at by local Taxi drivers to move immediately. Trying to check in and shuttle a car around with bags etc not great news on... more

The majority of Manchester's 4 star hotels have seen better days, so the Macdonald is a very welcome addition to the scene (who knows, perhaps it will encourage the others to pull their socks up). The bedrooms are well appointed, as are the bathrooms (where the courtesy toiletries are of a particularly good quality - no squeezy bottles bolted to the wall here). Breakfast is a strong point: hot buffet items are prepared in small quantities in an open kitchen directly behind the servery, so no congealed eggs or stone cold bacon. But why... more

Only positives here. Room great, staff full marks, food faultless. Location very good whether arriving by car or train. Well worth an 'excellent' all round.

If you are looking for a large, modern hotel, well appointed and positioned then this is it. While, the result is a hotel rather lacking in character, this is made for in other ways and I would recommend the hotel for either business or leisure travel. The hotel is ideally situated a few minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station and close to the very centre of Manchester - no more than 10/15 minutes walk. Stayed here on business for the last few nights. What a lovely hotel. Clean, modern with everything you'd need as a business or leisure traveller. Fantastic spa area. Gym small but with a decent selection of resistance and cardio machines, and free weights up to 26kg (dumbells), so more than enough to keep you busy. I stayed in a classic double room, the room was huge, massive bed, lovely furnishings. Double shower and very large, deep bath. Food good in the restauraunt. This hotel is amazing. I took my boyfriend here for a surprise birthday trip to see Man United V West Ham. We got a normal double room with bed and breakfast. I booked directly with the hotel on their website and requested a room on a high floor as I wanted it to be special with a nice view etc. A lady from the hotel saw my special request and called me to see if I wanted anything else, I told her it was a birthday present for my boyfriend and she arranged a complimentary plate with ‘Happy Birthday’ written on in chocolate with fruit and... more

Stayed at this hotel for one night whilst on business. The hotel is brand new, having opened late last year. Very modern but not over the top new if you know what I mean. Room was of a very good size, I was on the top floor and well equipped with a large double bed seating area and work desk. Had all the usual tea/coffee making facilities, LCD TV, in room safe etc. the bathroom was big for a room in this price range and very well equipped.
