Hampton by Hilton Birmingham Star City

Good business hotels; very nice and for the UK very large rooms. Very fast and reliable Internet access

The only negative was the location. It was away from the city center (which was OK) but it is quite isolated and not in a great area of town (not that it was scary or dangerous). The property is fenced in and is off by itself. They let us check in early after we arrived from the US. They were nice enough and the hotel was reasonably priced. The rooms are very modern and the beds were some of the most comfortable that I have stayed in, in Europe. I would definitely stay here again. Above average for Europe. Average for the USA.

Located about 3 miles out of the city and next to 2 huge gasworks and on a roundabout, the location is not the most salubrious in the world. We stayed here recently on a business trip as there was a conference on in Birmingham and all the normal hotels were booked. It would appear that Sleep Inn has been built as an overflow to the main Birmingham hotels and can only be described as functional and rather like a slightly up market Travel Lodge. Cited on most bookings websites as a basic hotel, the Sleep Inn near Star City is a hidden gem. I have stayed there for the past 3 - 4 weeks and I can say that I have been very happy to do so. The rooms are clean, adequately equipped with nice decor and modern flat screen TV's. WIFI is available although seems costly but I guess convenience rules. Is a great hotel, good value for money, very clean, staff are friendly, but there is 1 complaint and 1 disadvantage . The disadvantage is that its quite far from city centre a bus ride would cost £1.40 and takes 30mins, a local cab would cost £5, or a black cab which the hotel uses charges £10 to the city centre. This hotel is a bit out of the way for those who don't have cars. The rooms were good value for money and the decor was modern and comfortable. The shower was superb, however there were problems getting soap in the shower. I have stayed there about eight times and on three of these occassions the soap dispensers were faulty or missing. The staff and service were mixed. It ranged from noisy laughter and gossiping over breakfast service to efficient and thoughtful check-ins. Was extremely impressed with this hotel. Had only been opened a month and so everything was spanking new and gleaming. Our allocated room was spacious and beautifully decorated with flatscreen TV. The bathroom was excellent with a shower cubicle big enough to fit 4 people. Upon checking in staff were extremely professional and helpful. Would stay there again in a heart beat. To sum up, Fabulous.
