Mercure Holland House Bristol reviews

8 / 10
Jan 2008, Mr S E Smith

The exterior of this hotel, which still looks like the revamped office block that was its forerunner, belies the comfortable and stylish interior. Our room spaciously accommodated two double beds, and included two armchairs, wardrobes with full length mirrors. The decor... more

Wonderful - Can't wait to stay again!
From the start this was a wonderful stay - carpark is large and easily accessed, location is superb, right near the docks and within walking distance of all of Bristol's attractions. The reception service was swift and professional and the decor is contemporary and very trendy. The room was great, very large with a huge bathroom with walk-in shower and roll-top bath. It felt like a spa room. There was free water in the room and a good room service menu. One drwback is you have to order ice from downstairs... The pool... more
A real find in Bristol
Got a very good deal at the last minute and paid less than £80 for a fourth floor room which also had disabled facilities. The staff were all very professional and friendly even though we arrived looking like drowned rats due to our day out in the rain! The hotel is modern and very clean. It was easily as good as some 5 * we have stayed in. The breakfast was excellent and the hotel room was quiet. It is probably geared up to business people during the week but coped just as easily with our weekend family stay. The pool and gym... more
Great deal
Booked last minute and had a great family room at a good price. Arrived at this stunningly decorated hotel and went straight to the pool. Hotel staff found water wings and floats for the kids and we had the pool to ourselves. The room was excellent, staff very attentive and breakfast great. Will definately stay again!
great location & value for money
This hotel looked very unpromising from the outside, however inside it was very nice. The rooms were very large - we stayed in a double room with our 2 children and there was plenty of room with 2 double beds. I got a great rate for a last minute booking which included breakfast. The staff were fantastic, very helpful and pleasant. The location was 5 minutes walk from the harbourside and 2 minutes from the urban beach. The breakfast was not the best I have ever had, cold tea, despite asking for a new pot.
Good value (except for parking!)
After reading the recommendations on here, I booked the hotel for a trip to Bristol. I lived in the city about 10 years ago and was intrigued to see how the area has changed, see friends etc. Holland House is in a slightly odd location - opposite St Mary Redcliff Church, close to the temporary 'city beach' by the river, with some low-rise flats nearby. However, you're really close to some great riverside bars and cafes, and near the Old Vic. The person who mentioned The Office was spot on about the exterior and this was a former... more
5 STAR!!
I stayed one night at the Holland House in Bristol, and all I can say is I wish I could have stayed longer! It is certainly one of the nicest 4 star hotels I have ever stayed in, and even better than some 5 stars I’ve been to. Highlights of my stay: The enormous spa and beauty salon! I can personally recommend either the detox aroma therapy full body massage or the luxury facial! The Phoenix restaurant, gourmet food!!! My bathroom especially. It was spacious with separate bath and shower and a really nice design.... more
Excellent Rooms shame breakfast and parking are extra!!
I stayed at Holland House Bristol recently having enjoyed staying at Holland House Cardiff in the past. An excellent all round experience let down by excessive extra charges for breakfast and parking. The parking even being outside a marked bay with two wheels on the kerb as the car park was full! With no opening windows in the room the air con was essential but unfortunately this leaked in the bathroom.
Not great,,,,
I stayed at the Holland House during my first trip to Bristol. I knew nothing of the hotel as it was booked by my travel agent and I was traveling on business. When I arrived I assumed (from the decor) this was an older hotel built in the early 80's. Imagine my surprise to learn it had only opened a few months earlier! The hotel is staffed by very young hired hands and the staff has a general "my first job" flavor. They are very eager to help, but very confused as to how. The wake up call I requested never came, but the cleaning staff... more
Top Rate Hotel
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights over the Easter break with our two children (12 and 9 years). We were looking for a luxury hotel with a swimming pool that serves good quality food - well the Mercure Holland House Hotel certainly ticked all the boxes. We wanted a family room and got a huge standard room with two very large beds, excellent shower/bathroom with fluffy towels and robes, LCD tv, good quality hairdryer, complimentary hot drinks tray and cold bottled water. The swimming pool and gym were the childrens favourite... more
