Beautiful hotel
This is a lovely hotel, the resort looks enormous from the outside but once you're inside you don't get the impression of being in a big big building. Very nice rich arabic decorations everywere with nice thick carpet and beautiful wooden doors. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable mattress, nighttables with lamps, desk with chair, sofa and table, TV, minibar (free tea and coffee), iron + board, 2 bathrobes, 2 pairs of slippers: well everything you'd expect from a 5* resort. Balcony with chairs and table. A big plus... more
Very comfortable stay
I stayed for 2 nights at the Shangri-La Abu Dhabi and had a wonderfully comfortable stay. All rooms are sea-facing with wonderful views over the mosque. But reception is on the 3rd floor and I was on 2nd floor, so there were palm trees blocking my 'direct view'. I would recommend being on 3rd floor or higher. Rooms are very comfortable. I stayed in a standard room which had a large bedroom, and very large bathroom, with separate oversized bathtub and walk in shower and a separate loo. Service was very good, not excellent, but... more
Blighted by location
On a short business trip to Abu Dhabi, flying into Dubai and then spending 30 minutes trying to find the chauffeur who played a highly effective game of hide and seek but eventually I caught him. Hotel has the usual faux Islamic lavish architecture and design which is easy on the eye and seemingly well constructed. Rooms pleasant although couldn't fathom which light switch operated which combination of lights but hardly a problem. Had a dinner with clients at Bord Eau, the hotel's French restaurant. Food was pretty good and a high... more
Didn't like it....
So I stayed here for one night because I was curious about the hotel and wanted a good view of the beautiful mosque. All i can say about this hotel is that it is not quite ready...the staff are still very much in the training period, the building is only half finished and the plumbing in the rooms is not yet fine tuned. Check in was not smooth....took about 15 minutes and to be honest, check in should only take a matter of minutes for a pre booked and pre-paid room. Check out was even worse. The layout of reception needs... more
It will be a wow!
The main hotel is completed. Work is still ongoing for the other sections, including the spa and mall. We did not find the work intrusive. The views over the mosque are fabulous. Rooms are good sized with a range of facilities you would expect with a Shangri-la. We stayed in a Premier rooms, which have seperate dressing room, small office etc and are very spacious. Normal range of Shargri-la toiletries. Everything is still very new and fresh. Because of its location, there is not much to see do at the hotel and there is... more
not ready yet
stayed at the hotel for 8 days over the new year ,the hotel it,s self is finished but the surrouning areas aern,t and the work still being carried out could be heard daily ,this is not to mention that near by is a forces airbase and at least a few times a day low flying aircraft will disrupt your peace, the room and decor of the hotel was to a very high standard , we stayed in premier room and it was excellent ,room service etc also excellent, with the hotel being only recently opened i,d say the management have made a decision to go for... more

decided on a change to dubai ,and have used shangri la in bangkok, and more recently oman, booked thru best@. two families with children of 3 & 12 ,arrived 30th dec, in time for new years celebrations at about 10:00 in evening. check in excellent ,lovely stylish reception, leading on to large lobby/bar. booked deluxe room and not disappointed ,good size, lovely bathroom, huge walk-in shower and large dressing room . balcony with built in seating with views over small pool-beach, and over water to stunning white marble... more
Just a wonderful hotel
We have stayed in a lot of hotels in the UAE, including Abu Dhabi, and the new Shangri La is right up with the best, a really great achievement considering that the hotel is still in its "soft" opening phase. We enjoyed every aspect of the hotel - the service was first-rate - professional, genuinely friendly, and never officious. The room was very nice with an excellent bathroom, much like the excellent Mina A'Salam in Dubai. Lovely outlook across the water to the spectacular Sheikh Zayed mosque. The pool might be on the smallish side but... more
6 star experience
Stayed for 4 days in mid December, 2007. Still some works going on in the extension but was never intrusive. Less formal than the Emirates Palace and not as dramatic. However view over the lagoon to the Mosque is one of the most spectacular I've ever seen. Rooms have everything you would want and as everything is new the feel is quite opulent. Service was excellent with staff falling over themselves to look after you (without being over present). Food was off the scale, magnificent - have started a serious diet just to get back in... more
Stylish and friendly hotel
Good to see a new hotel opened in Abu Dhabi, maybe this will motivate the management at The Emirates Palace to improve its level of service, having up to now having had no new competition since it opened. The Shangri-la is in a 'soft' opening stage with a number of its facilities yet to become operational, however the hotel is of a beautiful design and offers elegant/stylish accommodation without being stuffy. The main infinity pool is amazing although somewhat small for the size of the hotel, there is an additional pool in another... more
Excellent Hotel
Stayed with my girlfriend for five nights at the Abu Dhabi Shangri La ( at great expense ). We are both travel industry staff and originally had the Hilton booked through The Travel Trade Store ( formerly Interlinebookers ). Unfortunately they messed up and although they had sent us a voucher, they hadn't actually confirmed with the Hotel. Was informed of the situation on a Monday morning and we were leaving on Saturday. Nice. Unfortuantely beacause of the Dubai airshow, most of the hotels were full up. Luckily the Shangri La still had... more
