I stayed here with a few friends at the end of October 2011. The hotel is lovely and clean and The rooms have every thing in them. Tea and coffee making facilities. There is a tv in every room. My room was small but there was only me in it. The view from my room was... more

Nightmare
We did not bother staying !!!! travelled from Derby saturday arrived at 3.30 pm went in hotel after 20 mins trying to get parked. Room was dirty damp and really old, beds were worn out and the hall ways were more apealing than the room.Ensuite shower tray was broken and dirty,Toilet bowl had sanitised sticker on it but the rest of it including the handle was minging. We went out to get some dinner and when we got back we spent an hour trying to get parked near the hotel,no joy so we had had enough. we went back to room, collected our bags and... more

It is a shame that you found the hotel so unsatisfactory in order to make such awful comments, especially as it appears the car parking was the main offender. Unfortunatley, we are not in a position to control the on street parking outside the hotel (especially in the middle of August!!) and we do not claim to have a carpark. I feel that we are being unfairly blaimed for something we cannot help and this has put us in a bad light with you and therefore we could not win whatever we did. If you had come back to reception on check-in to report your apparant complaints, we may have been able to help you but you did not give us the chance and were obvioulsy in a bad mood when leaving. Regarding your last comment about our breakfasts I can only say that our food is renowned for its high quality by the many thousands of guests who stay with us each year who are also very satisfied by our rooms which are inspected twice a year by the AA and the Tourist Board who in 2010 raised the percentage of our 2 star rating. During 2010 we have also had a refurbishment programme of both bedrooms and public rooms which is near to completion.

Never again, feels like faulty towers
Good: location (step outside and you can see the sea below) Bad: Worst bed we ever slept in (too many springs) Room 215 right next to lift (every time someone uses lift you can hear the cables) Room 215 smelled unpleasant (mixture of urin and ancient carpets) Sevice at check-out couldn't be bothered and had no friendly face or comment Breakfast only served between 8.30-9.15am (don't dare to sit where you want or ask for your breakfast if it's not your turn) we would not recommedn this place and won't be... more
Dreadful
Took a long time to pluck up courage to go away on my own with a tour company. Never again. Hotel needs a good clean, their housekeeping is non existent. Food and service awful, very unfriendly. Only good thing weather was superb.Room left a lot to be desired.
Never Again!
The location of this hotel is stunning, beautiful sea views across Scarboroughs North Bay, but unfotunately that all we managed to love about the hotel! The building itself has so much potential, but is in desperate need of some TLC, the smell, the decor, and the overall atmosphere was poor ! Our double room was a dedent size with beautiful views..but that was it! Drab decor, old stained carpet and the bathroom was awful ! My husband and I were disturbed on the Sunday morning at 8.55 by the cleaner knocking on our door wanting to... more

We are just completing a refurbishing programme in bedrooms and public rooms alike, which will give our guests even nicer surroundings, but this is not to say that prior to this, the rooms had a smell and an overall atmosphere that was poor. If any guest has a complaint such as smells, stained carpets or any of the other things mentioned, the first thing to do is to make the complaint at reception. As far as I am concerned this was never done and so treat these comments accordingly. Anyone can make allegations after the event which is unfair as it does not give the chance for redress. Many people enjoy the suroundings, (Visit our web site) and hospitality at the Delmont year on year.

Holiday/ What holiday?
This hotel has, in six years deteriorated from a first class, family/group welcoming hotel to a very much over rated run down, dirty, downtown sort of place. One night stay could be tolerated but any longer? don't even think about it.
Management response from ScarboroughJoy

This group have visited many times prior to our purchase of the business, as I believe they were friends with one of the previous owners, and even came during our second year when everything was fine, otherwise I suggest they would not have booked this holiday. The only problem during the duration of this holiday was the fact that on arrival, the group was over subscribed by one, even though it had been requested and the organiser informed the hotel was full, this person was still brought. We did manage to sort this problem but the organiser blamed the hotel and would not let it go. Throughout the duration of this holiday no complaints were made about anything, I personally took one of the guests to hospital one evening in my car but this has obviously been taken for granted. The description given in this review bears a very good resemblence of the property when we took over the business. We have since upgraded the hotel and I agree there has been a very big change in the last seven years, the Hotel is far superior and is a wonderful place to holiday. Unfortunately, this review is just a way of having a go at us because the organiser cannot admit he was wrong.

Old Dirty Over rated
This hotel has to offer decent rates as it is dated and filthy. We couldn't wait to leave. The proprietors are a little ignorant and on the common side. We were taking bets on whether any of the staff would crack a smile. Parking is also a nightmare. Never again.
Management response from ScarboroughJoy

When people have complaints, why do they not direct them to the hotel which is the fair way to do things giving us the chance of redress. Instead they write 'ANONYMOUSLY' on this site where they can say whatever they like. This hotel is not dated and filthy, (Please visit our web site), and with regards to the remarks about us being ignorant and common, if the author was big enough to give personal details I would consider suing. I notice this is another person who gives the stunning panoramic view across the North Bay a 2 out of 5 rating, what do these people want? Our staff are properly trained, presented, and are well mannered and are well known and appreciated by all our many regular guests. Parking is not a nightmare if you are prepared to look for a space, most people seem to be able to do it.

this was a fabulous break
we stayed here 28th - 31st December 2009 our room was a fabulous room with 2 bay windows both with sea views, the ensuite was a luxury bigger than ,y own bathroom at home. the food was excellent, the dinig rooms and lounge area had been tastefully decorated, looked like it had only just been finieshed the owners had even put up christmas decorations to match the decor of each room. we had entertainment and bingo in the evenings, I would definately go again. and would recommend this hotel to anybody having said that other people in the hotel... more

Many thanks Joan & Rob for the very nice comments you have given regarding your stay with us at the Delmont. You obviously appreciated the very hard work that is put into making your holiday a happy one, as your entry was 2 months after your visit. I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you in the future. I do note that contrary to other anonymous comments made on this site, you did manage to put your names and dates of stay. There must be a moral in this story.

Friendly welcome - would return
We booked in here for 2 nights completely out of the blue - we just decided to go to scarborough for a break and went on saturday afternoon. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and his wife who were very polite. They let us see the room without hesitation before we booked in and even had a free parking space for our car right at the front door. The room was basic but clean and at this very reasonable price thats all we expected . The en-suite was large and also very clean. The room was also kept very warm thanks to a large radiator.... more

Thank you very much for your balanced comments. I am very glad you enjoyed yourself and look forward to welcoming you in the future. I cannot believe your comments are about the same hotel as some of the other slanderous comments made on this site, so once again I thank you very much. I hope people will start to see through these other comments.

Family friendliness personified.
We've just returned from a stay of three nights at The Delmont. The welcome we received was second to none. It's not the Ritz, but at these prices you get a good amount of accommodation at a value cost. There were 38 of us in our group and almost all were totally satisfied with everything. The family-run hotel is having some amount of refurbishment done over the winter and that will improve some of the less-than-ideal features of the hotel. It isn't perfect. It isn't the Ritz. However, it's clean, friendly and they look after you... more

Thank you very much for your kind comments, I just wish everyone was as balanced as you but unfortunately, as you say, people do moan at anything. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Not the best hotel in Scarborough
This hotel in rather dated and is need of a complete refurbishment both inside and out. The room we booked was supposed to be a superior room with a sea veiw. Although we did have a sea veiw the room was definatly not a superior one. The en-suit bathroom left a lot to be desired, the underside of the toilet seat was badly stained as was the washbasin. The shower did not work and when emptying the washbasin the dirty water came up through the bath plug hole and stung of rotton eggs. The blanket on the bed was thread bare, you could... more

Another 'ANONYMOUS' author, who any balanced person would say with all those terrible things wrong in their room should have complained at the time to the hotel, and quit rightly so. No one has ever complained of such things, especially all together. We are at the moment completing a refurbishing programme to bedrooms and public rooms but this does not mean the hotel prior to this was as stated. We are inspected twicw a year for our 2 star rating of which our percentage was increased in 2010 and we hope to increase this further after the refurbishment.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in
We found this hotel very dated, scruffy and not very clean at all! The ensuite very cramped the shower and the sink needed a good thorough clean, so did the rest of the hotel and that included the bar area.... The food was ok but felt like you were sitting in a large canteen. We found the staff to be quite surley and our waitress was chewing gum on the 3 days that we stayed there. We made the best of it as we were only there for 3 days, but have to say if our stay was longer we would have booked in somewhere else. I would not recommend... more
Management response from ScarboroughJoy

Our hotel is completing a refurbishment programme as I write. This does not mean that prior to this it was dated, scruffy or unclean in anyway, and the en-suite meets all the size criteria for our star rating inspections. Our food is renowned by all our regular customers who visit year on year eating in our airy dining room with chandeliers to light it. Not what you would normally find in the suggested canteen. (See our web site for pictures). Our staff are always very pleasant, some have been with us many years and are also enjoyed by our regulars and new customers alike. Although I do not condone staff chewing gum and if I knew about it I would have stopped it but to make a formal complaint about it on this site and not at the time if it bothered you that much, are we just looking for problems.
