The Olivaer Apart Hotel is very reasonably priced and there are some excellent off-peak offers available.
It is located just off Olivaer Platz, literally across the road from a bus stop that takes you up the Kurfurstendamm (or you can walk up) and about 5 minutes from the U-bahn at Adenaur. If you are happy getting round the city on public transport this is an excellent hotel. There are a few cafes, bars and restaurants close though not a huge selection (there is no dedicated night life area in West Berlin, you will need to try different areas each night). There is also a supermarket two doors away for water and other snacks.
The rooms are quite large but with a small bathroom and they are simply furnished with beds, desk, table, chairs and a wardrobe. There is also a satellite TV and mini bar and hairdryers etc can be borrowed from reception. The rooms are clean and you have the option of having towels changed daily or kept. Basic soap and shampoo sachets are supplied.
The lobby area just has the reception desk (helpful staff), some sofas, a coffee machine and a tiny bar which is so small as to be pointless, I never saw anyone in it. Check out is 11am, and check in is officially 2pm, but if your room is available you can go straight up. They also have a locked luggage room.
Breakfast is served between 7am and 10am and is Continental style with coffee, juices, meats, cheeses, fruit, breads, yoghurts and cereals which is kept replenished whilst people are still there, regardless of what time they arrived.
This is no luxury hotel but it is clean and suits those looking for a base in the city to where they can explore and aren't worried about having a bar or restaurant on site in the evening . If you are looking for something with a few more facilities you will be better served elsewhere.
